Stroke Lab shaft in a Scotty Special Select?

Does anyone know if I could swap in a Stroke Lab shaft (from a Toulon San Diego) into a 2020 Scotty Special Select Newport 2? I love the latest Newport head but I also have really gotten hooked on the feel of the Stroke Lab designs.

 

Anyone know if they are the same fit?

Do not know exactly if it can be done but really sounds interesting---- Sorta an old take on us old school guys putting fluted Bulls Eye shafts in Santa Fe Scottys or in hosel into shaft Pings

Most Odyssey putters take a 370 tip shaft and all Cameron's I've worked on need a 355 tip putter shaft. You'll probably have to reem out the Cameron to make it fit.

I've put a .370 shaft in a Scotty Cameron by sanding the tip. It didn't seat fully into the hosel, but I played with it for several years.

Yes, you can do this but you will have to ream out the hosel on the putter to .370”. FYI, the Stroke Lab shafts have a super high torque value. Like 3.8. That’s a ton of potential twisting at impact on off center hits which imparts a tilt axis on the ball. IMO, these shafts are crap. Might feel good, but crap for putters.

Not concerned about the torque value to be honest. I like the counterbalanced feel as it helps me get my backstroke started on the right path for whatever reason. I don't want to use a heavy putter to get the counterbalance setup as I have had a lot of trouble with distance control from that type of setup in the past. The way I look at it is if I'm hitting sufficiently off center that the torque of the shaft comes into it, I'm missing that putt regardless. The Stroke Lab setup without question improves my make percentage inside 10 feet and that is very hard to ignore. As it happens I also tend to have very good pace control with it. There is a noticeable improvement with both of my Stroke Lab putters vs my Scotty Laguna, and I honestly used to love my Laguna until I tried the Stroke Lab 10. That was so good I picked up a Toulon San Diego, but I don't like the head as much as I do my Laguna or the more recent Newport 2.

 

Hence this new rabbit hole I'm diving down, lol.

Understand that the shaft is not counterbalanced. It simply has a weight installed in the end to “counterbalance” it. You can get the same feel by counterbalancing a more stable shaft with a lower torque value. Just a thought.

What is the torque spec on a standard putter shaft? Callaway, for what it is worth, states that the Stroke Lab shaft is slightly stiffer and has lower torque compared to standard putter shafts for to better control the slightly heavier head.

I’m afraid not. The Stroke Lab shaft is significantly lighter than a standard shaft, allowing a counterbalanced setup without adding lots of weight. It’s that unnecessary added weight that I want to avoid since it has caused distance control issues for me in the past.

Yes it is lighter, by 40g. That 40g is distributed 30g in the grip end and 10g added to the putter head. It is not just a "counterbalancing" but a different way of balancing the entire putter.

Steel putter shafts have a torque around 1.8-2. The same as a steel iron shaft. BGT stability shafts have a torque of 1.0.
