Great savings right now with F&F discount

Just wanted to get some general opinions on Golfsmith's clubmaking tools and equipment. I've been thinking for a while of finally making an investment in the necessary supplies, tools, etc. to start doing my own basic club work at home. This would mostly entail re-gripping and re-shafting (wood and irons, steel and graphite.)

I priced out some things this morning and it seems like the current F&F discount would offer me some significant savings (pretty much 25% off everything).

What does everyone think of their products in general? Also, any suggestions for the kind of things I would need, right now I'm thinking:

vise
epoxy and mixing supplies
ferrule installer
heat gun
ruler
gripping station??
grip tape
shaft extractor
hosel brush
swingweight scale
re-gripping supplies (tape solvent etc.)

Is there a need for a heat gun and torch, or is it just a matter of a heat gun taking a little longer? What about a chop saw versus the cheaper hacksaw blades?

I got plenty of my tools from Golfsmith, usually with the FnF deal. The chopsaw saves me some time, especially when doing an entire iron set. You don't need a torch, I use the heat gun and it performs just fine. Also, I thought the gripping station was a bit silly, as I just do this from my vise, with a bucket underneath to catch the solvent.

Really you've got two things--regripping and reshafting.

Regripping is cheap, and very easy. I already had a vise, but in addition to that, it cost me about $8 for the tape/solvent/rubber vise insert. I was regripping clubs that day.

Reshafting is more expensive, because of all this:
epoxy and mixing supplies
ferrule installer
heat gun
ruler
shaft extractor
hosel brush
swingweight scale


It might help you to look at this as two separate purchases. Also, if you are going to regrip graphite shafts, I recommend getting the curved tape scraper they sell. Much easier than using a flat razor knife.

its called a hook blade and not only is it easier it keeps you from scratching or taking material of of the graphite shafts almost for shur

May I make a suggestion on your shaft puller. Go on ebay and plug in j b's shaft puller. J.B has made a hydrolic shaft puller that is probably the best puller for the price. I have the junior and spent $150.00. You definetly will need a good shaft puller if you expect to save graphite shafts. He also has a spine tool that works awesome too.

Actually, I was talking about this, not a hook blade. Hook blades are for removing the grips, these are for removing the old tape.
