Leather Grips? Who is using and what do you think

I got a new Best Grips leather putter grip on my new TP Mills putter, but I'm not a fan.  It's smaller than what I like and the feel is nothing special to me.  I'm not even positive which model it is as there is no indication on the butt cap.  However, I would call it a waxed finish, so probably the GT-L?  Anyway, I got in touch with the owner and he said they don't have bigger sizes, but that their regular grip is already close to mid-size for other grips.  I beg to differ.

All that said, I just ordered a Grip Master signature cabretta paddle sized to replace it.  Hopefully my local club guy can get the other one off in good shape so I can sell it.  A leather grip with the TP Mills logo and only three 9-hole rounds on it doesn't come up often on the open market.

I got the Grip Master paddle cabretta installed last night and I think it's a winner.  The TP Mills logo'ed leather grip came off clean, so it will be on the BST shortly.

Just for a general FYI, The Grip Master site has a much wider selection than their US distributor The Golfworks. I don't know if TGW will add grips like the Wrap Corded or others, but I remain hopeful. I am a big fan of the FL26 as it is almost exactly the same shape as the Odyssey grips on my Stroke Lab putters.

 

As for tackiness with TGM, it goes like this.

 

Tackiest              The Master

                            Classic Wrap (all sizes)

                            Wrapped Corded

                            Cabretta Tacky Laced

                            Signature Roo

                            Signature Cow hide

Least Tacky        Signature Cabretta

I went through the Grip Master website to pick out what I wanted, but shipping was a little high, so I ended up buying one off of ebay.  I like the feel, but probably should have gone with a little more tacky than the signature cabretta 🙂

Yeah, shipping for a single grip is bad. It stays about the same even when getting a set of grips, so that's the way to go. Also you can get some buddys to order also and spread the cost!

Can I ask what about the heat shrink helped the Arccos sensor stay better? I use Arccos and plan on trying out some best grips leather grips. I’m familiar with heat shrink tubing from electrical work, just not totally understanding this exact application.

For me, the arccos sensors kept flying off of my leather grips when hitting balls, and this was a relatively easy solution to keep them in place. The heat shrink just made it so the sensors can’t really move around. The shrink wrap will have to be replaced once in a while.

So did you put in the Arccos sensor and then shrink wrap around the transition between cap and sensor?

Love the look of the non-wrap models with some use on them.  Finally going to put one into play on an nos closet wedge I’ve had since 1982.  Gripmaster roo standard, going to look good on the Time Machine.

Hi I need to shrink wrap a putter end cap, any tips on size or shape of shrink wrap for the butt end of a grip master putter?

First post here, have read this forum a ton and thanks for all the info, great resource.

 

Anyone have experience removing gripmaster grips installed with double sided tape using a long v-groove tool wedging between grip and shaft and squirting some mineral spirits in between and twisting off? This method works fine with most golf pride grips with no damage; wondering what the best method will be when I want to transfer my gripmaster grips from my current clubs to another set at some point.

I am not a master club repairman, i have usually unwrapped the leather first and then it’s easy to remove the underlisting w the v tool..
