Man, these 702 CB's look great... never was a fan of the 480.

Totally agree this line looks sick. I’m very interested in a CB/MB combo. I was thinking of having a CB+ in the 4 and 5 spot but I don’t think I could get used to the offset.

Any updates if the wedges are staying another year or are there updates coming there too?

Have not seen anything on wedges. I’ve played great with their versatile sole SPN wedge. Clean and simple.

I have played almost everything they have produced. This time, on the irons, I am with you on the MB/CB combo. Last series I initially bought the 480MC and TC, as I like compact irons, but the 480MC was almost too small for me, as small as the og Ping Blueprints. They were lovely on center strikes. But even a slight miss meant a noticeable drop in yardage. I ended up being a better match for the full set 480TC.

To my eye, they have made the MB in this series a touch bigger than last time so that the 702MB looks closer in size to the 702CB, but still smaller, as it should be. My guess is that is the Ryan Moore influence, as his WITB history shows a preference for a more midsized head. And it is notable that he and Steven Alker played the 480TC and not the MC. Curious to see which way they go now.

My thinking on this series is 702MB in 9-P and the CB in 5-8. I feel like I can handle that lineup. They‘re saying the new MB is comparable in size to a T100 and that’s a nice size. In terms of first impressions, I like the MB and CB a lot. I know they will feel great. Can count on that with New Level.

The 702CB-Plus looks similar in blade length to the 480DB, so for toe hitters, that’s a nice option. It will be the most forgiving, about as forgiving as anything out there if you want pure forged irons, which is what we love about New Level. It’s going to be sized more like a T200 or ZX7. I prefer a more squat shape like the other two 702 heads. And really, for my swing I did not notice any forgiveness difference between the 480TC and 480DB. I do miss sometimes out on the toe, but not way out. Also, the offset on the 702-Plus is actually less than the Srixon ZX5 MKII in 7-P, is exactly the same on the 6 iron, and then the 702-Plus has a bit more in the 4 and 5 compared to the Srixons. I am sure they did that to aid launch in the long irons. It would not bother me but based on my experience and fit I’m interested in the CB and MB.

Might have to pick up a set of the MBs! Hoping they have a discount code for official release.

Hopeful here too... 4-PW 702 CB with Modus 120X and their ferrules seems steep at $1141 from a DTC. I can pretty much get any "brand name" set for that price. T100, P7CB, ZX7, etc... so i'll probably be waiting for a deal.

They sure do! The CBs look phenomenal as well. But I like the one piece over the cavity.

Yeah I’d much rather support NL over a big brand but tough spending that. But I do appreciate that they offer heads only

Oh 100%, I just think the notion behind DTC brands is they are supposed to be similar performing, and marginally cheaper than big box brands as they can save $ on marketing and the distribution of clubs to tons of stores. In saying that, that sort of price definitely doesn't deter me from wanting to try them as the CB's look just beautiful, but they definitely would be more enticing at the sub $1000 price range.

Retail for T100 and P7CB is $200 per, or $1400. I’m sure ZXi7 will be close. And modus is a $10 per upgrade, $4 per for custom ferrules w New Level. $1043 with no upgrades, so like 25% cheaper. But yeah for a smaller name DTC with poor resale value, I do wish they were priced more in line with Takomo or Sub70.

I know. All I meant was that most of these $1400 retail sets can be had for much less if you know where to look and that was my only point. Obviously if you're just walking into golf galaxy and buying them off the rack, yeah- you're gonna pay. Agree with the Takomo or Sub70 pricing. The new Sub70 raw TAIII CB's have me excited too when those release. Lots of good stuff for good prices.

I feel like it’s fairly simple to score a 10 percent off code with New Level, which drops the price a little bit and may get a full set to your door for just under 1K, depending on shaft choice. I save a little more as I typically don’t order a 4 iron. I keep one around with super forgiveness and it rotates in and out of the bag with a hybrid.

I do very much enjoy the feel of the New Level irons and how they play. Now that they’re coming out with a tungsten toe weight added to a straight up 1020 forged iron, that’s kind of all I need. It’s really all a lot of us want. But what I like is their irons are not intimidating, the size of them is playable. The MBs to the CB-plus look well proportioned. New Level says the 702CB is their most forgiving iron yet in the “players iron” category. That’s intriguing because I thought the original 902 was very playable. This new 702CB basically going head to head with the P7CB, Apex CB, ZX7, King Tour, Blueprint S, etc. Another thing I like about New Level is the finish on their clubs looks great and seems to hold up better than some others.

You don’t see a lineup of three pure forged irons like this much any more with the OEMs, who usually complete their lineups with multi-material heads, variable thickness faces, ceramic infused heads, etc. Not saying there aren’t any — Titleist, Cobra, Wilson, Ping, Srixon, TM all have well-designed, beautiful irons in the lineup — but it’s not like it used to be. They all push the tech and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve hit the i530 and DynaPwr Forged, they work! But I feel like these DTC companies are retro, doing what the big companies used to do, while also showing that it’s still true that a wide range of players can play great golf with a simple, clean set of forged irons.

And to add to this… I can’t believe how solid their MBs are. I have a short set of the 480 MCs, dropped 6 balls about 120 yards out and hit 3 different irons… MC, 241, and j15mb and the MC felt the most solid and enjoyable to me. Very dense soft feel. Very impressive. Can’t wait for these new ones.

Looks like they have added a small $10 per club upcharge on both the Modus and KBS $ shafts now.

Also from the specs chart it appears the 702 CB will be offered in LH, but not the 702+

Driver - Callaway Ai Smoke ◆◆◆  / Tour AD HD

4wood - Cobra RadSpeed / Tour AD IZ

Hybrid - PXG 0317X  / Tour AD DI

Irons - New Level PF4 CB  /  Dart V 90

Wedges - Cleveland RTX 6  52 / 58

Putter - TM Spider X   Ball - Titleist AVX

One spec chart says RH and LH for all 3 models and I see another one that says LH only for the CB.

I’ll bet the spec charts need to be updated because it also shows the lofts and offsets the same for each model and I don’t think they have done that before.

The description for the + says they are slightly stronger lofted.

Agreed. I have a tough time believing the MBs went from a degree weak to now a degree strong compared to standard.

That might not be so bad. These are low bounce irons at standard spec (the 4 iron is 0 bounce!), so weakening them will add a little bounce, which IMO is better than making them even lower bounce. An MB 5 iron ordered at 1 degree weaker loft would add 1 degree of bounce, taking it to 2 degrees, still not a lot. And, for the offset sensitive, weakening the loft would fractionally reduce offset. Not really a factor as there is not much to begin with.

Also could be the CG is lower in this MB than in the 480MC. I’d probably play them at standard loft, which is the same as Blueprint S in 7 iron, and adjust later if needed.

I like that they included a photo of each new head with a ball in front of it. Shows the dimensions well. The CB and MB seem to have the same blade length and the CB+ is only a little longer blade. To my eye the Plus blade length looks a touch shorter than the 480DB. Hard to tell in photos but it looks good with the ball.

I ordered a short set of the CBs as I figure I can play those for sure. Will fill in the set after I see how the CB plays. All 3 of them are appealing to me.

@dmeeksDC keep us posted on how they compare with the TC.  I've never played anything with tungsten in the toe.

Sure thing. I’ll post photos as soon as they arrive. I’ve played a lot of irons with tungsten in the toe. It’s basically not something you’ll feel at all in hitting shots but you will see it does make a difference in performance. For me in the long irons it is kind of a quiet game changer. And on some mishits I’d say it adds a little forgiveness you might or might not detect — club face resists twisting a little better, ball launches slightly higher. It also helps designers dial in a more centered CG location.

There will be zero change in feel. It’s a small, dense weight in the sole of the toe. One of my all-time favorites, a legendary iron and cult classic on wrx and the PGA Tour, the Srixon z745, has tungsten in the toe. So does the Wilson Staff V6. So this is a feature I like.

Nice, good info!  Does that make the 702 series the most combo-able iron ever?

I get the price increase, and options that have increased… that’s the world we live in.
But, they still make a fantastic set of irons. Worth every penny.

Yes, to me they are a “name brand” with success on tour as well. I’d pay “big boy price for these and be just as happy.
I could care less about resell value.

Never have.

It’s my hobby, my vice.

Let’s see what the next t100 irons cost with options or whatever will be big this year.. prolly $1600 area..$225 a yep I’d pay that too. For any good set of quality irons to my specs.
Take your game and maybe your mind to a New Level. 🍻
