One thing that literally no DTC company gets right ( maybe because they are all being made in the same place) is the hosel and top line transition.. it’s always so bad. I can’t even look at them..

Just by looking at pictures, I've had the same suspicion...But then when I find side by sides I feel like I'm just tricking myself...

From earlier in the thread- Ap2 left, 480 TC right:

 1.jpg.55e7c81b97e421df1916b5c59ac3cc60.jpg

The Zx7ii and the 702CB:

I don't think I could even say anymore without seeing these in person...I think it might just be bias.

I made this collage a while back:

Would love to see the comparison photos to the CBs. I'm not a big fan of how the hosel transition looks on the 9 and PW for the CB. Was thinking of blind ordering the 9/PW to compare, but since you're already getting them... 😅

Sure. Will post as soon as they arrive.

I really wish I'd cleaned that AP2 before snapping that picture now seeing it again lol. With that said, I really noticed the weird hosel transition on the NL wedges which I did not care for the appearance of. I don't notice anything odd about the hosel transition on the irons though. I have AP2s, 480 TCs, and have king tour ZX7 7 irons for comparison. Don't have the new 702s.

I tend to like squat head shapes. Those shapes are taller at the heel so the top of the heel connects higher up on the hosel. And as the iron loft increases, the head tilts further back from the hosel and so you see the transition more. That’s why you notice it less in lower lofted clubs.

If the head has a more angular shape with a top line that drops sharper down to the hosel, you see it less. But I don’t care for the sharp angled look.

In play it means nothing. I don’t notice it at all hitting shots. I only look at the leading edge of the club face. I guess I am used to the look because I like those kinds of head shapes. You will notice that transition on some Callaway irons as they like the squattier looking heads. What I like about this type of head shape is it makes the blade length look shorter. I can’t stand blade lengths that look like hockey sticks because I will notice that. I had not even noticed the top line to hosel transition on the NL wedges. I’ll have to take a look.

Three thoughts today after latest simulator round.

1. The 702CB+ in the long irons continues to impress. I’m consistently carrying the 6 iron at 180 and that’s a solid 6 iron for me. (Driver SS today was 102.) These irons launch well and flight window is perfect. It does offer a little more forgiveness vs the 702CB. Not massive but it’s there.

2.  The 702CBs are just excellent. Really like how they play. Can fire right at pins, they stop great. They also get a lot of compliments from others hanging out at the simulator. Very clean looking irons that look good in the bag and make a sweet impact sound. Excellent consistency on distance from both heads. That’s a big positive.

3. A bit of a surprise. This single Gi22 long iron I picked up as a possible option over a hybrid is a cheap experiment that may just end up in my bag. I ordered the Gi22 5 iron, ordered it bent 1 degree weak to 23 degrees (really, it’s a 4 iron) and I put a 100g KBS Tour Lite stiff shaft in it — 15g lighter than my other iron shafts. I have only used it for a handful of shots but it has been reliable every time. Feels really good too. I’m hitting it 200-205 and I am more precise with it vs a hybrid. For the closeout price ($65!) it performs as well as a utility iron. It’s a bigger iron compared to my 702CB+ 5 iron but it is not off-putting. And it slots in perfectly on distance.

I took my 480TCs out for the first time today. Love the look and feel, but the ball didn't seem to be going anywhere. I realize it's December and cold, but I'd be interested to see others feedback/experience on these compared to others clubs.

I think what threw me was all clubs seemed a good 10 yards short (if not closer to 15), which was a bit concerning. Not sure whether that much is do to the cold (today wasn't too bad), or if it's a sign of things to come.

Got out on the course for the first time since these arrived and in much better weather than my last post.

I can confirm no distance loss. These 480 TCs are amazing. I couldn’t ask for anything more from the power, control and forgiveness and the SPN wedges were impressive.

Note to self, crappy…. And I mean crappy….. range balls on a cold day in December should never be given credence.

If the new 702s are even better (and I’m not sure how they could be), wow!

I wanted to clear this up in case this gave anyone pause. Do not hesitate. Just don’t buy them all in case I want another set. 😂

I couldn't resist and picked up a set of "Miami Vice" 702MBs -- pictures online really don't do these things justice. KBS Tour 130x matte black shafts, BB&F ferrules, Iomic baby blue stickies, +1/4" and 1° weak to match my 702CBs if I decide I want to combo them. Almost too pretty to game!

Really nice. My 702MB 9 and P are due to arrive today. Warmed up here so we played 9 yesterday afternoon. I nearly made an ace with my 702CB PW. Tracking dead at the hole from 136 yards, ball stopped less than a foot short. The precision of these irons is excellent. Let us know how those MBs play.

Ok so I'm torn..... 702cb 4/5 iron with 5-PW in the mb.....or PXG 0317t or ST.  Can anyone chime in? @dmeeksDC didn't you play the 0317t's?  I'm currently playing Srixon MKii ZX7 but played the PXG0211ST and loved them but I also really liked the NL PF1/2 combo as well.

Hey there. Yes, I played the 0317T. I was fit for them. Nice irons. Ultimately it was the soles I did not love. They are a little sharp and sticky through the ground IMO, even though they are high bounce irons.

I would say the 702CB is comparable in forgiveness and the 702CB+ is more forgiving. I like the 702 soles a lot. I played my combo in very wet, melting snow conditions in Maryland on Monday and Tuesday and they did great in the mud. The softened leading edge is nice in the mud!

I definitely prefer the feel of the New Levels over PXG. That’s just me, the PXGs feel fine, if a little synthetic. I really enjoy the sensation of a well struck forged 1020 steel iron. For sure the 702 lineup is more forgiving than PF1/PF2 (which were nice.) But the feel is the same excellent New Level feel. The 702CB is more similar to the ZX7 than it is the 0317T. ZX7 probably has the widest sole of the three.

The 702MB is sweet looking. Definitely appears slightly larger and friendlier than the diminutive 480MB. My 9 and PW MBs showed up last night and they are pretty.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.  I've always been a forged player CB or blade player going back to the Srixon 965/765 combos but in the back of my mind I always feel like maybe I'm giving something up by not going with a more techy approach.  I think it's settled, 702cb 4-5 iron and 6-pw of the mb.  Thanks again

Hey @dmeeksDC, you’re a star!

Lefty 702cb page is up. Can’t order yet, but I’m sure it’ll be available soon.

That’s pretty cool, and on the money. I watched the Champions Tour event and saw them in Steven Alker’s bag. Runner up this week. He and the irons look good.

Interesting stuff. Im actually rotating between the J15 cbs and the PF-2s right now both in 5-PW. J15s might be slightly more forgiving, but on a good day i can hit both pretty well. love the feel in both of them too. did you ever hit the 480s, and could compare the 702s/480s to the PF-2s/J15s?

Well....I officially took the plunge.  702cb 4-6 and 702mb 7-PW project x 6.5.  I also ordered and received already the 58 degree desert eclipse wedge with the vs grind and PX 6.0.  I couldn't believe it, I ordered on Thursday and it arrived yesterday.  I loved their last SPN wedge in the vs grind and this one looks even better.

You'll have to let us know how they compare to your ZX7 MKii !
