Want to hear more. I feel I never read the OS reviews/ + reviews.  That’s what I want to read more of.

Big fan and I’ve had them in the bag for a number of rounds now. I easily could play a full set of the 702CB+. I game the 5 and 6 irons and continue to be impressed by the shots I am getting out of them. Almost like a Bridgestone J40DPC in terms of blade look — I loved those — but the 702+ is more refined, slightly shorter in heel to toe length. Looks really good. Enough face room to bring confidence, not too long a blade.

The soles are perfect for my tastes. The CG must be low because they’re very good on thin hits. I’ve had several that came off lower but still flew well. They’re not necessarily a distance iron in loft, a touch stronger than an MB but very much in line with a P770. I like that because the 5 iron is fitting well for me. Very precise, easy to hit. It is giving me a nice playable option from long range. I think you could adjust these a degree stronger and they’d play the same.

They are not much bigger than the 702CB but they are easier to hit. I’ve noticed. They are not diggy. Out on the golf course with all the Maryland hilly lies I find myself in, the 702+ have been superb.

@dmeeksDC thanks for the review! I’ve been thinking of trying new level irons or maltby ts3. I think the OS would be a good fit for what I’m looking for in new level. Are the 702 and 480 just the updated the models? Also, I like that these have a pre worn leading edge. I’ve read mixed reviews if that’s good or bad for steep swings. I’m sure it’s talked about in this thread already, but any insight how these play compare to a Srixon?

At the price the 480 line is at while they are almost gone it’s a great time to give NL a shot if you don’t have to have the newest model. My480tc are so fun to hit

That's what I did. I hit the 623MB before and liked them, but never got out on the course with them. I took a chance on the 480TC and got out for my first round with them yesterday.  One round and a couple of range sessions and I like them a lot. They are a little bigger than the my 2021 Staff CB's. I find them a little more forgiving, but just as workable. I actually ordered some SPN wedges yesterday as well.

Thanks, I looked at this but it says they don’t have the 702+ any longer for demo

Looks like it’s right there on the demo page?

Maybe it’s out of stock. I was at the New Level office last week and they told me 702 sales were doing great and they had to place another order for heads.

You have to click on the iron type that you want to demo. The 702+ is definitely available, I just looked.

I have a set of 623-CB and 480-TC on BST right now and have fielded a few questions on why I am moving away from New Level. Simple answer: 702's are the new sheriff in town LOL !

I wish people would stop posting how great the 702s are.  I haven’t been out yet,  but my 623cb and SPN wedges will get the start this season over my Kyoei 705 cmb.  I do love the 623cb but I will eventually cave and buy the 702

I love my 480DB and SPN v2 wedges. Can't wait to see what they do with the new utility. I am also considering ordering a new lob wedge from them.

Their wedges are so underrated. I played a round this week with the 54 SPN versatile sole wedge and it is good from anywhere. Really good off tight lies and from

the sand.

I still like their old Tri Weight wedge as my gap wedge and I like the M Type wedges they had a few years back.

The first generation SPN wedges were a little diggy but the V2 is outstanding. The wedges have a nice balance to them. I have s300 shafts in mine and I like the heft.

I was a bit surprised how poorly the wedges did in the MGS wedge shootout last year. They were nowhere near the top.

Can anyone give a direct comparison of the 702MB and the 480MC? I loved the MC design, sole and size. Anyone that could give a bit of an in depth comparison on all aspects would be greatly appreciated!

Not too in depth as I only briefly owned the 480MC short irons (8-P). I found them to be challenging to hit well, less forgiving than even some pure muscle back irons such as Z Forged II or Bettinardi MB24. The 480TC were much easier to me. Big difference between the TC and MC. The TC I had no issues with consistency. The MC is for dialed in ball strikers, they have your standard heel side sweet spot. They’re not going to be good on an off day.

The 480MC are small heads, like similar to the og Blueprints. But I found the og Blueprints easier to play. I would rank the 480MC as New Level’s most demanding iron, even more so than the PF1.

By comparison I find the 702MB to be outstanding, just much easier to hit well. I only have the 9 and PW and I also have the 702CB 9 and PW and I find very little difference in playability. The MB is the same size overall as the CB, but has a thinner sole. I really like both heads. The MB short irons are dart throwers, a lot of fun. And you can catch them a little thin and get reasonable results.

But I also like the 702CB+. I have those in the 5 and 6. Don’t sleep on those. They’re great, closest design I have seen to the legendary Bridgestone J40 DPC played forever by Couples and others.

The whole 702 lineup is nice for any combo you want. The biggest change from the 480 to the 702 series, however, is that the 702MBs are far friendlier and are going to work for a much wider range of players than the 480MC, at least that’s how it is for me.

I had a feeling I’d get your thoughts! Looked forward to it. Thanks for the insight!

I have the MCs and definitely felt they were on the smaller side so was very curious if they were the same on the 702s. Good to know!

Did you find the soles to play similarly? I think that’s what I loved most about the 480s were that relief in the leading edge. And they feel great!

The soles are great. Very much the same New Level sole and leading edge. Given that you have experience with New Level irons and your past posts, the 702MB has the potential to be your goldilocks iron. It is the same heel to toe length as the CB in a slightly slimmer package with a slightly slimmer sole. It’s really nice looking and a smooth swinging, easy to pure MB. I can post a comparison photo of the soles.

These irons are forgiving too. The tungsten is a mitigating factor on toe and thin misses. I was hitting my 702+ 6 iron against a p790 7 iron (those are closest in loft) and I seriously could not believe I was in fact more consistent with the 702+. I’m going to do it again, this time on top tracer, to see if that holds up.

yeah they do seem to be kind of the perfect package from what I’ve heard. To take the 480mb and slightly make it bigger and more forgiving is almost as good as it gets. The 480mb was a bit more firm and soft, interested to try the new ones out now!

I found some new 623CB heads and was going to build a set of those. Seems like there’s quite a few people selling 623’s to use the 702’s.

Is that little bit of tungsten making that much of a difference or is it because they are new and shiny?  You can be honest, this is a safe space.

For whatever reason I was pretty inconsistent with the 623CB but the 702 lineup seems to be the perfect fit. So I don’t know that I can pinpoint the tungsten but the 702CB+ is the easiest to play New Level iron I have played, and the 702CB is next. It seems they really tried to make a very playable pure forged iron and they succeeded.

I hit my 702CB+ 5 iron as well as I do filled heads such as the P770 or PXG 0317T. That surprised me. Both of the New Level heads are pretty good on misses, especially thin misses.

Anyone compare the 702CB to the Maltby TS3 or the 702MB to the Maltby TS4?

I was looking to do a combo set with Maltby, but the prices of the NL are hard to pass up since my shaft doesn’t come with an upcharge

I really like Maltby as well (PTM was my favorite Maltby iron) but the 702 line is a better fit for me. The New Levels will be slightly smaller, not a big difference at all but they are smaller. Longer blade length for sure in the Maltbys. I only have the 9 and PW in the 702MB but they are very nice. Very playable. I like them better than the TS4. The Maltbys have more bounce but I can’t say I ever noticed it.

For my tastes and preferences the New Levels are just hard to beat. Very good looking irons. They feel fantastic. The 702CB+ would match up with the TS3 (it still will be a little larger) and having tried both I am a big fan of the 702CB+. If you are looking at TS3 I would say compare it to the plus. The 702CB is more similar in size to the P770 or maybe the Zxi7. I can post a photo of the 702s next to a P790 if you are interested.

Thanks

Blade length doesn’t concern me much, I liked my Mizuno MP-37’s and they were a shorter blade length. I don’t mind a little offset, but prefer it to be minimal. I liked the Ping i59 and they are a shorter blade length, but liked the i230 and Blueprint S more.

the sole in the NL 702CB interest me since I live in Florida which is soggy in the summer and hardpan in the winter

I got away from blades, my last sets were MP-37’s and MP-67’s, I moved into HMB’s but have never been satisfied with them, in fact, I hit my blades better than the HMB’s (I should have tested on turf rather than a mat) I like the 5i, but don’t care for the shorter irons

I bought a Maltby DBM (older model) and I’m not a fan, but I also bought a Maltby TS-1 (older model) and like it more than my HMB’s. Since the TS-1 is similar to the TS-4 in size and shape I figured I’d go with the TS-4 (maybe 5-PW since I have no problem elevating the long irons, I hit my irons around 125ft peak height 5-PW), but the NL 702 looks great and they are about the same money as the Maltby TS-4 since I don’t need to pay for a shaft upcharge in the NL’s where I would have to with the Maltby’s

Thanks for the info….. I think I’m going to jump on the NL 702CB’s
