TENSEI AV Raw?

Just thought I would share my experience today.  I was looking for a new driver and tested the TSi3, Mizuno STz, Sim 2 Max.  The TSi3 had the lowest spin of the 3 for me (averaged around 2500rpms) and felt and sound the best of the three.  We then went through about 5-6 shafts (Ventus Black, Ventus Blue, Evo VI, GD, AV Raw Blue).  I was surprised that the AV Raw Blue gave me the most consistent spin and dispersion.  I have always been a shaft snob, and have made my way through most of the premium shafts, both Japanese and U.S. over the years.  When I found out it was the stock option, I was surprised.   I almost didn't get it because it was the stock shaft, but the numbers didn't lie when we went back and forth between each of the shafts several times.  For whatever reason, this shaft was easier to square up than some of the other ones, and felt like "less work" to swing.  I have slowly come to the realization that the material upgrade of an ultra premium shaft is less important than finding a shaft that matches your swing.  I just ordered it today, we will see how it does on the course.

Did you try the AV Raw White?

I was in the other day looking for a potential upgrade of the Aldila RIP Alpha in my EPIC SZ. I hit the Tensei AV RAW Blue, orange and white. I'm not man enough for the tensei white. Felt like swinging rebar. I could not load it at all. A total board for my swing.  Orange was OK, but the blue was a decent match for me. Not sure I'll change from the RIP, but like Lefty74 said, it "felt like less work" to swing, I had the same impression. Very easy to swing and had a good dispersion for me.

For reference, my driver swing speed is about 105 mph.

Thanks for the response. I’m about the same SS speed as you, somI need to try it. I got good results with the White, but I had to go at it pretty good. I tried the GD IZ and XC. IZ was good, but felt a little lively in the tip. The XC in the TSi3 was to low spin for my swing.

That was how I felt with the Orange. The white just didn't suit me, and to swing the Orange was a lot of work. I have a very smooth transition, that might be why the softer midsection of the Blue works for me.

The more I learn about this shaft all of this doesn’t surprise me at all. I just tried AV Blue in my TS3 and the very preliminary tests show that it’s great for me too. I was most intrigued after looking at all the shafts on the shaft guide on Titleist’s site and within the same weight range (<60g for me) the AV Blue (and raw of course) has a much stiffer tip section that every other shaft including D+ whiteboard! It’s no surprise that this shaft is incredibly stable with great dispersion and less spin than you’d expect from such a smooth shaft.

Like some of you, I have to swallow my pride playing a “stock” shaft but I guess some shafts are stock for a reason because they are just flat out good!

This will be the first stock shaft I’ve played in a driver in the past 10 years. I am very interested to see how the season goes. My club arrives on Friday, then I will get with my club fitter and get the final adjustments tuned in with the Titleist cog and head adjustments.

Maybe I’m just late to the party but I think Tensei AV Blue is a very underrated and overlooked shaft simply because it’s become a stock shaft in a handful of clubs. It was the clear winner for me versus a few Fubukis, Diamana, Fuji Pro 2.0 and other. It was just better in every category. I’m very excited to game these shafts this year. Also saved me a ton of money!!

Just purchased a Sim2 TI 3 Wood with the Tensei AV Raw Blue 75x shaft. Loved the weight and ball flight it gave me. Wanted something that launched a little higher with a little more spin than the Orange. Problem was tracking down a place to actually test the combo.

So got a call this morning that they talked with Titleist and it sounds like the TX won’t be available until sometime in March. You can still order it but it will be a couple months before they have it in stock to build.

I'm not sure which TX you're referring to, but I ordered a Blue 65TX in a TSi3 last week and it's shipped! Crossing my fingers it's coming with the TX and not the X.

I am 2.0 65TX in the driver and 2.0 75TX in the 3 wood. I'm about 117mph in the driver with a quick transition...these shafts take a hard move at the ball, and I personally love both shafts! Try it out. It hits it really far in my TSi3 15*

None in the driver and 0.5" in the 3 wood. Pretty vanilla, but works for me. I hit a tight draw with both, but that is my usual shot shape. I'd say I had a bit more left to right with my Rogue Silver 130 65 & 75TX last year. These ones definitely feel "hotter" though, and I think they are without having compared on a monitor

Do they have some kick/feel or do they feel fairly stiff and one piece?

Damn I am around the same swing speed, but I’m rolling with the 50 TX 1K for the driver and I have the 65TX coming for my fairway wood.

I figured since it was 69 grams it would be closer to my previous 70TX shaft and I finally wouldn’t have to add any head weight to the fairway head.

I hope I didn’t make a mistake by going too light!

I doubt it! Ian Fraser at TXG is smashing his 50TX in the 1K and he moves it pretty fast

Oh I should have clarified. I am worrisome about grabbing the 65TX for the fairway instead of the 75TX. Reading that the 65TX was actually 69 grams had me go that route.

Owned and played both 60TX versions and dialing in the AV Raw as we speak. It is much smoother and you can feel the stiffness in the butt of the shaft. Anti left but it might spin and launch a tad higher but that could be me as well. Definitely no kick like the ZF and stays with you. So far, fantastic 3W shaft and contender for the driver (playing an AD XC 6X in a TS4, trying this in a TS3 for comparison). Sorry, just observations and no trackman numbers. The two shafts feel and seem to perform differently, definitely not just a paint job difference.

Hey what did you end up going with? were they very similar?

I got fitted to a AD XC 6/7 X, but the Tensei AV Raw white X/TX are both free options from titleist at the moment. I'm tempted to go with the TX because of the boron tip being more "premium", and I'm kind of inferring from people sharing their SS in another thread about the TX that this isn't truly "tour" stiff

I usually would recommend going MCA over GD but I was disappointed with the Tensei AV Raw white.  Go with the XC even if it costs more.  You'll thank me later.  😉

I just yolo'ed the TX... lol. 200$ after a 550 driver already seemed so steep, when my own fitter recommended the AV raw white as an alternative. From there I talked myself into the TX instead of the X.

My consolation is that, I will probably be able to sell this shaft for a good part of what it will cost me to buy a used XC if it comes to it.

Ive had the white 75 TX (original, not 2.0 proto) in my 3 wood for 2 seasons now. Probably my favorite club. I've had 1K black in driver and I swear it's not the same. It's a different kind of profile. As people itt have mentioned, so frustrating how little info there is on these! Wish I knew what else out there was like it. My guess is it's not too far off from Ventus Black/hzrdus green/t1100 profile

According to @MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL on IG and twitter the TX orange has MR70 and Tungsten prepreg, the White has MR70 and Boron in the TX flex as well Thats why aftermarket they are $100 more than the normal Stiff/X Flexes

I just picked up a couple Raw Blue 85 TX and a 95 TX on clearance. I assume the blue also has MR70 and the Boron tip as well? Is it basically just a remade version of the CK pro blue but with the Aluminum Vapor in the handle section instead of the CK weave?

Kinda odd how discreet MCA was about this release.

From what I’ve been able to find, the AV raw line in TX is basically the same as the CK pro line, but with aluminum vapor replacing the Carbon Kevlar weave in the handle section. And then the non TX versions in the AV Raw line are akin to the Tensei CK series (non pro).

Just thinking out loud here. It seems like the AV raw line was a bit of a half hearted release from MCA. It had been a few years since the CK line came out so they had to release something new for the club OEM’s.

They also knew the 1K pro line was in development (I believe the 1K pro white came out only a year later), so they didn’t put a ton of resources into a full premium launch of an “AV Raw Pro” line. But they had to have something new out on tour, so they only released the premium version of the AV Raw in TX flex.

I’m glad they now clearly differentiate their product lines. The Tensei AV series white/blue are a lower price point mainly used a no upcharge option with the club OEM’s, and the 1K pro line is their premium aftermarket line. And they tell you exactly what the material differences are to justify the difference in price.
