Enjoyed the first two rounds of the Masters without the CBS crew. Enjoyed it a lot more. Can’t listen to the romanticism of the Masters anymore…just call the shots.

There's nothing magical or technically correct with lining up exactly parallel to your target -- with the full swing, chipping, or putting. It's just easier to measure and repeat than, say, 15° open, even if 15° open might be a better setup for you.

Kinda off topic…back in the early 90’s a family at the club I belonged to used to play a couple of holes once a year in shirt and tie. The, I believe great grandfather, was in his 90’s at that point and they would bring him out. They did it as a family tradition to honor him. I always thought it was a pretty cool gesture.

Despite manufacturers, "feel" in an iron is 80% shaft-grip combo.

I don't like PGA Tour birdiefest tournaments. They are professionals...shot making and course management should be a part of the equation, as opposed to, for example,  "bomb and gouge", where missing fairways is no big deal.

Pace junkies who want to play 18 holes at a muni on the weekend in 3 hours ruin the experience for everyone around them.

 

People who have zero ability to "read the room" and line up putts for triple also ruin the experience for everyone around them. 

 

Dogpiling on aimpoint and lines on the golf ball is a reflection of the pace junkie mindset above. You're not fun to play with or against, though most times you're easy to beat as you're focused way more on what I'm doing than your next shot.

Unless you can smoke a cigar without ever taking it out of your mouth a cigar has no place on a golf course. Most people spend more time messing with their cigar than they do playing golf.

Unpopular Opinion: I know the ferrule game runs strong with some of us and our custom clubs but, man are some of them tacky. But, I guess that's what they were going for...so they won.

Score to par is totally arbitrary. It is still the guy with the least total shots who wins.

Par is not arbitrary.  It developed in an evolutionary process to identify a score an expert golfer could attain over a certain number of holes of different classes of yardages.

 

Things develop in an evolutionary process because they work.  In golf that meant balancing the challenge with the reward taking into account the strength of intermittent reinforcement and the physical capability of normal human males (I.e., the real, non-television golfer).

 

Changes in equipment and money (inducing better athletes into the pro game and also for them to perfect both their technique and those physique ) has altered that balance in the pro game, which is not a itself problem (although I also think the long game is both less interesting and more luck based) but people being what they are a lot of people want to emulate the pros and do dubious things like go for every par 5 in 2 and play from the wrong tees, and some courses have rather shortsightedly I think wasted resources getting longer to satisfy such folk.

 

For normal people, golf played for par (as an aspiration) at traditional lengths from white tees is a very nice game indeed.

You missed his point. The type of course that gives up loads of birdies generally don't have a lot of strategic puzzles. It's just hit it as close as you can to the hole and try to make a putt. A challenging course that offers good risk-reward decisions and many recovery options is much more fun to watch.

Pro tip: If you don't have enough taste to be elegantly fashionable, but still want to make a statement, just use loud colors and splashy patterns. This makes people think you have style, without actually requiring artistic discernment.

IMO cereal in general is gross..and all of it equally so. If I wanted dessert for breakfast I'd eat a donut/Muffin/scone (in that order).  Give me protein or give me nothing for breakfast

That's true but in my defense, I do eat something with the cereal, typically eggs+bacon/sausage and a fruit of some sort.

Unpopular opinion:  I don't watch PGA Tour golf.  I might watch some of the Masters or other majors but never a regular tournament.  I don't understand why men like to watch other men chase excellence.  I would rather be out there working on my game or in the house working on my game.  And before any responds that "they can do both", I have a hard time believing that Tiger watches the PGA Tour  when he's not competing.  But what does he know, he only has 82 victories and 15 majors.

By this reasoning, nobody who has played any sport at any level should ever watch the professional version of said sport. To say that is moronic is being kind.
