Your TOP FIVE Mizuno BLADES

So here I am...back to Mizuno blades again - for like the millionth time. Not regretting any part of it, of course, and I don't know why I keep trying other things. I should probably just stick with these until I hit the end of the line. I tried to think if there was a Mizuno mb offering I hadn't gamed in the last 20-25 years, and I am coming up a little shy apart from the Mp 5. (Don't know why I never had it in the bag, but I'm sure I will find a set in the future).

 

Was thinking about my favorite mb offerings since I have been playing Mizuno. Nothing really technical here - just an anecdotal listing.

 

1) Mp 4

2) Mp 20

3) Mp 33

4) Mp 68

5) Mp 14

 

Honorable mentions to the Mp 32's and Mp 18's. Anyone have a different take?

To be clear, there’s not a bad one. These happen to be the ones I played my best golf with. The 4s were probably the best all around in terms of feel, playability, and looks, but there was always something very classic to me about the 14s.

The 14s were the club that got me into blades, but I've never actually owned a set.  Probably too late now, LOL.  As a high trajectory player, the 37s are quite nice, and have the same bounce characteristics of the MS-11s.  The 11s would rate higher if I didn't hit them so damn high with too much spin, though it's possible aging has fixed that problem for me.

I keep coming back too, have a set of 33's going in the bag after I fiddle with the shafts. I like lighter shafts with softer tip sections, but that leads to "balloon balls" with the 33s. Gonna softstep a lighter X Flex to bring flight down.

 

I wore out a set of MP29s when I was young, nothing like a Mizzy blade!

Played some of my best golf with mp14s, still have them in one of my backup bags actually. Enjoyed my 29s too, but they are long gone.

I still game MP 29’s. Like my fourth set. Have 33’s and 14’s also. All are fantastic clubs. Funny I played with my brother 2 weeks ago who games Pings.... he hit my irons at range... kept saying “ these heads are so small!! The one I've always wanted to try but havent yet are 32’s. Have hit the MP 20’s but only inside on a monitor. Felt ok.... need to hit them on grass on a range to get a real feel for them.

Masters A.G. Model (compact, square toe. What's not to love?)

MS-1 -- closest thing to Scotch Blade I have, and fun to play.

This is a great thread. I’ve only played or hit a few of their blades over the years so I don’t think I have a good perspective. They are beautiful clubs and I’ll probably grab a set one day.

 

I’d love to hear more about WHY a particular set or sets are your favorite. Feel? Accuracy? Forgiveness? Nostalgia? Etc.

Why the 37s are top for me.....  they produce a lower trajectory, which is good for me.  They have considerable bounce, which works well for me as a barely-above-average-height male with shorter than average arm length.  The usual Mizuno feel doesn't hurt.

 

And, there's a sense of nostalgia involved.  I had a set about 14 to 15 years ago, traded them, and regretted doing so.

MP29s - nostalgia, got them eons ago, played them throughout college into my late 20s, wore the clubfaces out. Might have had my career low round with them. I found a set on my local Craigslist a few years ago, bought them, tried to game them, but found they are a bit too demanding.

 

MP33 - the set that got me back into playing blades, loved the feel and look. The tendency for them to hit the ball high turned me away, but have a set now that I am going to reshaft and game for the Fall.

 

MP5 - fiddled with these for a few months last season, really nice looking blades, forgiving too, kind of like the MP32. Was scoring better with the MP15s I had at the same time, so sold them off.

 

MP32 - not really a classic blade, but very forgiving. Played kind of short for me, spun the ball too much too, might revisit if I come across a set.

 

MP4 - only hit these indoor, really want to try them.
