Balls XXIO Eleven Golf Balls

About six weeks ago I found an XXIO golf ball while playing a round at my club. I knew XXIO made drivers and irons, but I wasn't aware that they made balls and I didn't know anyone who had played them. Being curious, I played the rest of my round with it. I played great. It felt soft, was long off the driver and irons. It was extremely straight off the tee. I had a couple approach shots go long and off the back of greens, and putted great and felt great off the wedges. I typically play 2020 Chrome Soft, Srixon Q Star Tour and Vice Pro Soft.  I don't know why, but I had assumed it was a cheap ball, and said to my playing partners "why am I spending so much money on Chrome Softs when I can probably get these for $12 a dozen.  Little did I know that these go for $49/dozen.

 

I played that found ball for 58 holes. I eventually lost it on the 59th hole with a bad wedge that didn't make it over a water hazard. There was no way I'd pay $49 per doz, so I started searching on line for them. None of the used ball sites had them in stock. I finally found a guy on Ebay who sells them at a great discount with free shipping so bought three dozen. I'm a 12 index and not a long hitter.  I love these and  they are the only balls I've played for a month now. 

 

I'm wondering if any of you have tried this ball and what your thoughts are.

Hi @sabram That is some find. Xxio is a umbrella branch of Srixon/Cleveland Golf. They are possibly aimed for the Japanese/Asian market. By sounds of the durability it was very good ? best of luck in your golfing future ^_^

For the record this is not a urethane covered ball. It has a surlyn/ionomer cover.

They have been ,making balls for at least 15 years, if not longer. Our Pro used to get lake balls from a supplier who must have scoured the far east as there were Tour Stage, Big Yard and XX10 balls a plenty. If they are like the rest of the XX10 Range they will be premium quality.

I like the Prime 9 Driver they make but $50 bucks for a dozen of there golf balls would be a real reach for me. Don’t know of any tour pro using the ball.

I'm sure there are. There are so many golf balls on the USGA/R&A conforming ball list that never see the light of day in the US marketplace. XXIO prior non urethane golf balls released for sale in the US were more expensive than their current US release. Morton Golf in California carried them as did Fairway Golf. They were at least $60/dozen. XXIO is considered a super premium brand in Japan. There is so much cool golf gear that never sees the light of day in the USA.

 

Srixon (same corporate family as XXIO/Cleveland/Dunlop(Japan)) had a 3 piece surlyn/ionomer ball released a couple of years back called Srixon "X"  (see below) that was much more than $50/US however it was a ball released for the JDM and not the USA market like the current XXIO balls.

 

Hope the new XXIO balls work for you and glad you found them at a better price point. Couple of years back I purchased a dozen XXIO urethane covered balls (sub $50 on Ebay) that had some wild dimple pattern that made the Callaway Hex dimples seem normal. If I can find them I'll post a picture of them here. Never got around to trying them out. Also have a dozen Mizuno golf balls that has some crazy micro dimple pattern within normal dimples.

In the "TECHNOLOGY" section, there is "Advanced 324 Speed Aero Dimple Design".

Yes same dimple pattern. Each dimple was to be shaped differently. The balls I have are the XXIO Aero Spin. Released in 2014. 344 dimples. 3 piece urethane. Here is a picture of them from the net. Doesn't really show the dimple differences well. They have a pearlescent finish. Used to have a link to the Aero Spin data sheet however I can not locate it.
