Restaurants shout outs

If you're ever in Illinois traveling I-74 , between Peoria and Bloomington a little town called Goodfield off exit 112, has a restaurant called Busy Corner Cafe. Great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Best Pies all around with coconut cream, lemon meringue, silk pie, banana cream, chocolate cream, etc. I’d recommend for lunch the Chili with pie  for desert or get the chunky chicken salad with a slice a pie . Nothing on the menu is off limits. Lots of Midwest specials.

Looks delicious! Thanks for sharing. I always love those small places that seems to be disappearing from the map with the emergence of many fast food joints.

I'm a big Lemon Meringue pie guy and usually small Diners are the way to go.

one of the biggest thing I miss about my time spent in New Jersey was the diners. Little, bright and shiny buildings and neon lights everywhere, and anything you could possibly imagine on a 10+ page menu, lol. All freshly cooked and usually all quite good. There are no real diners like that around here on the gulf coast.

Many late night diner runs were had over that year, lol

Best thing ever is going on a Live show with budddies late at night and grab some snacks after the gig

I grew up in the NYC burbs and after a night of drinking, you always hit the diner at 4am for burgers

Funny thing, there were these 2 diners literally across the street from each other.

The Eldorado was nicer and cleaner, always packed, killer burgers and onion rings, we usually ended up there.

But, if we were sloppy ugly drunk, we’d hit the Starlite across the street. Or, as it was also endearingly called, the Roach Coach. It  was always like empty, edible, and you felt less judged for being a total mess, lol

Man, those were the days, now, I’m half asleep by 10pm ; )

Here they are, Eldorado still there, Starlite long gone...

I love those old streamline diners. Not many in my area. Ones in our area are brick and mortar

In Philly , we used to go to Bobs

Great meatloaf, bobs.jpgmashed and rice pudding

Overlooks a cemetery which was kinda weird  but has been there since the 40's

Here in Miami - the closest thing we have is some all night Latin joints with Cuban sandwiches and tres leches for dessert

Bobs is still there when I visit

It looks like the 17 near Secaucus.

One of my best food experience was going at Waffle House at 4 in the morning, surrounded by cops lights in the background. You haven't experience America if you haven't done that.

Cant beat a Miami Cubano and cafe con leche.

There was that Wolfies diner but that closed ages ago.

I bet that San Loco taco place is closed.

There was this fantastic restaurant called Pacific Time.

Been forever since we hit Miami Beach, it just got to be wayyy to much of a “scene. “

Living in the metro D.C. area as I did for 15 years the fellas would make an AC trip annually. Had to stop and grab a meal always at this fine diner in South Jersey.

Elmer Diner - Picture of Elmer Diner - Tripadvisor

Jersey girls, are there any louder group of females in the country?  lol

I worked on L.I. for a summer after high school and Nassau County had some excellent diners as well.

Anyone who has ever been downtown in Montreal on the bar scene knows "Boustan" , its a Lebanese place famous for their chicken pitas and garlic potatoes.

They've become a chain, but for a while there was only one  , right in the heart of downtown Montreal

They probably did more business between 3am and 5am on Friday-saturday than the rest of the week combined

Again it's like a chain now  , but it didn't start out that way. Was a small dive in a downstairs location in downtown montreal

If you are ever traveling through Macon Georgia, its a must you stop at H&H Soul Food.  Especially if you like a little Southern Rock!

Founded in 1959 by Inez Hill and Louise Hudson, H&H Restaurant is a Macon institution – woven into the fabric of Macon’s history. H&H has kept Macon’s most diverse clientele well-fed with delicious, stick-to-ya-ribs soul food and is most famous for its founders’ unique friendship with the Allman Brothers Band. This friendship took Mama Louise on quite a ride that included a seat on the tour bus in 1972 and lifelong friendships with Gregg and the rest of the band, as well as most all of the figures (large and small) of Macon’s southern rock explosion.

Well, after the description of the food and the relationship with the Allmans, I had to google some pics. And I was not disappointed!

If you are ever in the Auburn, Phenix City, Columbus, GA area you should check out three places - all good for different reasons. The main thing in common between the three is the East GA/West AL version of Carolina mustard sauce. I've looked and can't find a better hot BBQ sauce in the country. All are local chains, and it is important to visit particular locations. Not all are the same quality.

The first is 13th Street BBQ in Columbus, GA. Best BBQ sandwich bar none. Gotta get the chopped /chipped, all the way, with hot sauce. Meat is crispy and flavorful. Slaw and sauce provide the moisture.

Second is Clearview BBQ in Columbus, GA. The BBQ sandwich is soak-into-the-bun greasy and the sauce is wonderful. Again, chopped/chipped, all the way with hot sauce is the way to go.

Finally, Mike and Ed's in Auburn, AL. Instead of sandwiches, I get the chopped/chipped platter here with hot sauce and curly fries. I could eat three plates of that stuff. I went here to celebrate my dissertation defense. It's that good.

I've tried BBQ all over the country and all of it has it's strong points, but these three places keep me up at night.

Once all this has passed us by, if you're ever in Paris with your SO see if you can snag a reservation for the Jules Verne restaurant on the 2nd level of the Eiffel Tower (https://www.restaurants-toureiffel.com/en/jules-verne-restaurant.html).

Oh sure, it can be expensive (five course tasting menu for €190/$235 each not including wine) but if you book for a Saturday lunch it'll be easier to get a table and the food and service will be the same as in the evening. It's more relaxed at lunch as well and you can see more of Paris.

It'll impress anyone you take and you'll have one of the best meals of your life.

(Plus, after the meal, you can ride a special elevator to the top of the tower...)
