Affordable Golf Clubs in London

Hello WRXers

 

I am moving to London in the New year and am keen to keep my golf game ticking over. I will be living in West London and was wondering if anyone knew of any affordable clubs with no/small joining fees in or around that part of the city?

I am 26 so would likely get a reduce yearly subscription.

 

My research has shown London Scottish GC may be a good option but is only a short course, has anyone played here before?

Some of the best golf courses in the world are within 10/15 miles of "West London". So why join a club? There are golf societies in England which play regularly but at different courses, maybe one of those would suit you. You will have to do some research though to see if you can join.

Too many unknown variables here op

 

where will you be living/working? Will you have a car? What’s ‘reasonable’? Are you looking to play year round? 

 

Im north London but have played a few in that direction. Really there’s any type of golf you want, you won’t have to travel far. Public courses around £1500 per year, private obviously more with a joining fee..plenty of green fee options £30 and up. If joining somewhere, look for a heathland course as it’s sandy and will give you a longer season, also prettier imo.

i will be working in the City of London and living in the north of the city and wont have a car but may be able to borrow one on occasions.

 

I am paying 1500 green fees at my current club so don't mind spending that much but would rather avoid a joining fee if possible

 

I understand there are many courses in the area and can continue to work on my handicap by signing in and entering scores through WHS at each course i play (likely the second time around!)

You could live near Barnet and be a member at Old Fold Manor which is a very nice little club or Hadley Wood which is a bit more "upper". Take the Northern line into London.

i Tried to help before but didn’t get an answer I’ll try one more time..

 

do you know know where you are living? Does the golf course determine where you live? North London is huge can take well over an hour to get anywhere. Be a bit more specific I’ve played them all and could help, but 1500 without a joining fee is going to be tight even with a discount

Have you played Crews Hill? Also Harry Colt design, and my regular partner and I think it’s a better course.. although Old Fold now has a proper academy setup which I haven’t tried yet due to this covid bollocks

Not played CH - where exactly is it? Does not get much press!! I actually loved Hadley Wood where you can see the Dr Mackenzie templates for Augusta. My next trip (ha ha) to the UK will include a visit to this area so thanks for the tip.

Only about 5 miles east on the m25, top of Enfield it’s actually quite easy to get to.. we’ve played in Herts for 25 years and no one had ever mentioned it to us so hadn’t bothered.. we now play it regularly easily top 10 in Herts for us

I have actually played Crews Hill this summer past, in the week leading up to their Club Championship; the greens were lightning and a few balls were de-greened!

Hadley Wood might be a good call if you are in North London. I'm not completely up to date with the membership fee but have a vague recollection of being told it's not extortionate considering it's a highly respected course. 

 

Alternatively you can not go wrong with Crew's Hill as mentioned. Great course and when i visited incredibly friendly club.

Certain it’s north of 2k these days, very likely a joining fee. All depends on where op is planning on living, it’s two miles from Cockfosters tube (although Trent Park is right by the station and was pretty good last time I was there..)

Actually, I found your community a few months ago and remembered that I already have an account here. And I want to say that I am glad to be a part of your community. By the way, I have a question for you, are you an experienced golfer and know the chipping technique? I wonder if you use various chipping clubs for a better shot? So, I just found a review of the best golf club for chipping and I want to know your opinion about Cobra King Black Wedge. Thank you in advance.
