I got the putter last week, opened it up and the putter is a piece of CNC art. What Kevin is charging for his putters and what you get is a steal. The quality is amazing and flawless, seriously if you want a basic putter and he has a shape you like the $600 starting point is a steal. 

 

Onto the point of this post, as I was unboxing it I grabbed the build sheet and noticed my specs were wrong. They were my spec but my old specs, several weeks before my putter was milled I made a spec change to my loft and lie based on a fitting. This was confirmed by Brendan as he had to ask his dad if a spec request I had could be done. 

 

I got home and saw an email from Brendan asking if I got the putter and my thoughts. I told him about the spec error and in under an hour he emailed me back saying the error was on him and their system not updating my build sheet. He was going to speak to his dad and get back to me.

 

This is where my mind starts racing, what if they say tough luck? What if I'm stuck with this putter I cannot bend? What if....

 

The next day I get an email with another apology from Brendan followed by "we're going to mill you a new putter". What a relief, some horror stories from various putter makers were in the back of my mind but gone with KB Golf. 

 

Brendan sent me a new spec sheet, I filled it out and he submitted that and my new putter will be milled soon. I know I waited long but my season is done, and I'd rather have my putter. Brendan told me to hold onto the putter they sent, roll it, game it, enjoy it best I can. When the new one comes there will be a return label and I'll ship the other one back. They'll do whatever with it either sell it or use it as a demo putter since it's standard setup and a lefty option isn't bad to have. And yes I have been rolling it in my basement since I've gotten it.

 

They do stand behind their products and take care of their customers. I'm a first time buyer with them, yes I waited longer than I would have preferred but it's just a putter. The proper one I'm sure will be identical in quality but perfect for me. 

 

I'm sure some have questions but probably the one most have: Would I buy from KB again? Definitely, the quality is amazing, they take pride in their product and the 2-piece putter means I could just buy a head or two with different face options based on my mood. 

 

End of day they're human, we make mistakes every now and then. They admitted to their mistake and correcting it too which many don't seem to do no matter the situation. 

 

 

Great post Matt. I've been considering ordering a custom putter and I think you just convinced me that KB is a company I can get behind.

I think I'm causing a few of their putters to land in the GTA which isn't a bad thing. If you ever want to see mine to get an idea of the finish and quality just let me know.

 

Best is probably email, Brendan handles all that but just remember he's in college so responses are usually held to weekends unless urgent. It's Brendan@KBgolf.com

Just an update my replacement putter was finished a few days ago just no weights. Cause of the loft I requested I need the heavier weights to compensate for the weight lost so Kevin is just going to mill a big batch of heavy weights.

 

Whenever that's done it will be on the way to my door and the other one going back.

I got drug out thrifting with the girlfriend today and found a Burns with pyramid milling in a bargin bin of all places. 
 

Can these putters be adjusted for loft/lie?  Or is all that milled into the head?

I think depends on what era it's from. I know mine the loft is milled into the head, if 1 piece you could easily bend it if 2 piece I wouldn't risk it but I'd still be picking that up if the price is right.

It is a one piece.. and I did pick it up for ungodly cheap.

Definitely post pics when you get the chance and I don't see why bending it to your specs would be that bad unless you need something very high or very low.

My specs are pretty normal… 1* loft / 74* lie.  I’ll be sending it out for refinish and having the name welded up.

Very nice score, with a refinish definitely won't be in it much for a nice putter.

That was pretty much my thought.  I wanted to roll the pyramid milling anyway and I’ll be in this thing for next to nothing.  If I don’t like it I’ll sell it for what I’ve got into it and give someone else a deal.

Going on 6 months waiting here, already double to triple the estimated wait time.  I cant say I'm happy to wait anymore really. If I could go back in time I would think twice before ordering.   My main issue is the time estimate of 2-3 months. I don't really understand how it could have been so grossly understated.  

 

When I get it, I know I will like it, so I wait patiently and continue to not disturb the company, but venting here is allowed isn't it 😉

Brendan just posted a video of my new build in progress. KB redesigned the plumber neck for their two piece putters and I’m happy to see that mine will be sporting it.

I saw that didn't realized the neck is a redesign but also noticed you're doing a copper insert on this one as well.

My remake is also almost done as well just in time for another 2.5 months of a 6 months off season. 

 

 

And for this the loft caused 10g of weight to be removed off the head so had to add the heavier weights. Regardless bang on the target weight.

Update on my putter I finally got my replacement, took a bit longer but that's ok cause if I got it 3 months ago I still couldn't do anything with it since it was off season then and off season now in this frozen land mass called Canada.

 

This one is perfect, the last one is also perfect but not for my specs both are flawless putters. This one Kevin did a full face milling for me, we removed the top line alignment, I can use top line or flange but not both apparently. The torch job on this one has a hint of rainbow in the right light and the last one was more golden brown, both nice, both unique but I'm glad to have mine.

 

I'll get some pics soon as lighting in my house is about as good as my bunker game.

I have had a few classic KB's over the years. This 9306 is the only one that remains. IMO, the best designed, best feeling Anser style putter ever. And it's over twenty years old. Solid carbon steel (no hidden insert) and super clean. I don't use it much any more, but can't seem to part with it.

 

 

 

Great putter!  As I do not like sightlines, please let me know if you'd be willing to part with it for someone who is looking to put it in his bag!

I think probably 40-45° based on the neck length. 

 

To be honest I don't pay too much attention to toe hang, doesn't effect me a ton.
