Here’s my girl Lucy again.  Great Pyrenees...This time she’s out for a walk in the rain with her rain jacket on.  
 

then. This is the face I get when she wants some attention.  She will stick her nose right up to my face and just stare until I acknowledge her.  110lbs of bossy cuddle bug.

All right canine lovers meet Oden. He is a 12 lb. Anatolian Shepard/ Great Pyrenees mixed breed puppy that my friend/coworker just adopted from Asheville's largest dog rescue operation Brother Wolf. He has escaped the orphanage and will be with a dog loving family that has a small farm with lots of room for him to roam as he grows. He too will have 5 brother and sister doggies to romp around with. 

 

  Oden is adorable.

My son recently got two Great Pyrenees. I was reading that the male can get to 165 pounds and almost 3’ tall. He has 25 acres so they have room, but that is a big dog.

I hadn’t even put that together.  No joke.  She was part of a litter that a small rescue in the mountains of NC had taken in.  Then named each of the 6 peanuts characters names.  We got Lucy just in time as this shelter adopts out extremely fast.  It’s run by a group of younger ladies who are masters at marketing all over.    So peanuts was the theme for this litter.  That too funny !

He’s gorgeous. Yep. The males are much bigger than my girl.  And she’s a solid chunk.  Lovely breed. If you have the time to be with them. If you leave them alone they’ll roam , and get into trouble.

He is a coworker friend's puppy but I will watch him get big. I agree the puppy cuteness of late on this thread is off the charts.  Oden belonged.

100 %.    My Lucy is inside at night , or bad weather snd plays out with the outside dogs in a 5 foot fence with concrete curb at the base all the way around.  
 

the thing with this breed is that they’re bred to be independent, with no input from humans.   So training one is very difficult.  And they will not listen to you if they don’t respect you.  You can’t train even a puppy with a remotely heavy hand.    They will only respond to positive praises and most importantly repetition.  Loads of it.  If you scold her , she will rebel.  
 

fast forward to now and she’s the smartest best behaved dog I’ve ever had. We understand each other.  But the road to get here was like none I’ve ever had.  And  I raised German shepherds for years snd have a husky and a Danish shepherd outside now  . This breed is not the same.  At all. They are very much a free thinker who will be the dominant animal on any farm.

Young Reg was diagnosed with coccidiosis over the weekend. From what I understand it's common in younger dogs, especially ones that are dealing the stress of a new home and weaning off their moms. He's on a long course of Albon and we've been advised to pretty much quarantine him from other dogs until he comes up clear. 

 

Anyone else with experience here? My wife and I have a good cleaning protocol going so far, modified his diet to make his digestion easier and have a space for him to roam outside our rowhome. He's a city pup currently, so all the poop gets picked up immediately.

Just follow the vets direction and usually that's also stay hydrated and quarantined until all vaxed. You got a poop eater! LOL

One of my wife’s Weiner Dogs does this. I saw a meme once that said the most effective alarm would be the sound of a dog getting ready to barf. From a dead sleep you are instantly awake scrambling to get the dog outside. Multiple that by 1000 if you have a poop eater as a dog barfing poop is one of the grossest things imaginable. And yet my wife lets the little runt sleep in the bed.

Well he's been interested in his poop, but no documented evidence of him eating any to my knowledge. I think it's more of a byproduct of eating lots of soil out of curiosity. 

 

The Albon though, god...I can't wait till he's off it. It's turned him into a monster when he's awake, seriously abnormal behavior compared to the days leading up to when he started the drug.
