Cleveland Launcher UHX irons

Anyone have any feedback on these? They are on sale and seem to be relatively cheap for high tech progressive set. Thanks!

Sorry, longish response coming.  I’’m in the Boston area, awaiting a winter storm.  But we had golf over the weekend.  I walked into the pro shop before my last nine of the season Saturday morning, looked around, and saw a set of used graphite Miyazaki shafted UHX irons in great shape.  I’d been thinking about trying them this winter so I asked the pro, who I know, about them.  He said good things (yeah, I know, he’s trying to sell them) and told me to take them out and demo them for free in my round.   Temperature around 39 degrees, fairways wet.  I’m a weekend hack, 69 years and a 13.9 hi, driver swing speed most recently in the low 90’s.

Clubs look very nice.  Modest offset compared to comparable clubs—important to me as I fight a slice.  Good shaft, and I also like the V sole as I’m a sweeper, not a digger.

First hole, I’m in the middle of the fairway about 134 yards out.  First shot with a UHX iron—a 9 iron-lands nicely on the green with a gentle draw.  Second hole, a very solid 6 iron.  I was sold after those two shots——these things feel absolutely great.  Distance was better than expected on a cold day.  I hit the back of the green, about a 145 yard carry, with an 8 iron.

I’ve been through a series of injuries in the last few years, finally getting better.  I’ve tried a bunch of irons—-these felt better than the comparable

GI  TMs, Callaways, and Cobras I’ve flailed away with.  No, not forged, but really solid clubs that are both long and accurate.

Got back to the clubhouse, paid the pro $450 and the clubs have never left the bag.

I had these for about 6 months and traded them in. I really liked the 4-6 irons but struggled with the shorter irons. As mentioned above, I believe the sole designs are better for a sweeper I am more of a sweeper with the longer irons not so much on the shorter irons. I could never get the consistency with them as I take more of a divot. Clubs were nice and felt nice but just were not a good fit for me. Went back to PINGS which work for me in all irons. So I’d say as long as you are more of a sweeper these may work for you. Good sticks if they are a fit.

I'm definitely more of a digger. I had heard the opposite-that the v sole is great for diggers. Now I'm really confused!

I recently played these in a rental set.  I found them fairly easy on the eyes and the feel was decent for a distance iron type club.  Distance control was a problem for me though and they tended to go left on me (offset issue?).

They weren't a great fit for me as someone focused on distance consistency with my irons, but I was super impressed with the HB turbo driver.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I've always heard the V sole in the Srixon/Cleveland irons is more suited for diggers.  I have played the 545/745 irons in past and currently game a UHX 5 iron and Srixon Z565 6-Aw and I'm a 100% digger and these soles work great for me.  Help me get through the turf where I dig.  Now on winter lies (bare dirt) they don't work for me but thats just the lie.  I agree that the UHX do feel good for a GI Cast iron.  Also like the guy above me, I do tend to turn the ball over a little easier with the extra offset in the 5 iron.

I think so...I actually have the 5 & 6 in UHX, but pulled the 6 out for the Srixon.  They are slightly longer then my previous irons, but that is due to the loft being slightly stronger.

Put them in the bag late September after league season. Replaced Ping G20's. I love them. DG 97 regular flex. While they can go high, I can flight down with a 3/4 swing. I am a picker and find I like the sole/turf interact better than the Pings. I was playing Ping G400 hybrids 3-5 as the G20 5i and I did not get along. I love the UHX 5i. I've picked up maybe 1/2 a club, but then the UHX are stronger lofts. I put the Launcher Hybrid irons (not turbo, prior model) in the bag at 4i, same shaft/length as UHX 4i. Sort of a trouble club and for gapping after UHX 5i. Had a honeymoon with it, but then lost it. I might try a Launcher HB 4i vs Launcher UHX 4i battle in the spring. I have a Launcher HB 3h, but seem to hit pulls, I think it is because the lie angle is too steep. I may go back to Ping G400 hybrid, not sure if 3 or 4h, which are a couple of degrees flatter than Cleveland Launcher for std lie angles. The groove within a groove tech does result in some great spin around the green. I put in a Cleveland CBX 2 54° sw in the bag. It matches up very nicely with the UHX. The bulge of the hollow long irons doesn't bother me at address, but then I came from Ping G20s. For the price, a good quality iron and I think you would enjoy the results you get from your ball strikes.

I still play them as a second set in our vacation home. I like the feel - good for a cast iron! Especially there is no difference between the hollow irons in 4-7 and the cavities in 8-PW.

My set is with NS Pro 950 in stiff. Distance control is good as is spin rate. And I like the looks of the UHX much better than the new series.

I played all year and not looking to replace the 6-GW. I would like to see better results out of the 5i, but it could/likely is the indian not the arrow. See bag below.

Anyone still playing these irons?

Newish guy here just going through lots of posts as I’m sick and bored. I’ve been gaming Cleveland UHX irons 5-DW with their stock DG steel stiff shafts for the past 12 months. They’re wonderful GI irons and I guess SGI for the 7 on up irons as they’re hollow bodied.

I’ve been golfing for 4 years now and just turned 50. I went from a 19.0 index down to a 12.7 before settling at 13.4 for the end of our GHIN season in SE PA. The irons are easy to hit and when I have an issue with them it’s due to me and not the clubs. Maybe one day I’ll “graduate” to better irons but most of my issues playing is being wild odd of the tee and lag putting so I’ll be sticking with these at least through next season too at the very least.

The best part about these clubs is how little they cost in comparison with the larger brand names with similar type clubs. My friends give me some stick on how big the back of the club faces are once down 6i and higher (I bought the matching 3 utility too) but I’m kind of a longer hitter so as they make fun of me I just walk past them on each hole so it’s all good lol.

Yes. Competent is the word. Cleveland would bend them up to 2° either way for lie or loft on a custom build from the factory.
