Any Wilshire or Lakeside members on here?

I’m a member of El Caballero CC and am looking to play at Lakeside and Wilshire and meet some cool new folks. I’d happily reciprocate (though our course is going through a big renovation starting Feb). I’m a 9 handicap and play fa-aaaaast!

I’m sure your pro can call for you as they are similar caliber. I really liked El Cabellero when I played there. Haven’t been there in 20 years so only curious about the trees and how many there are. Was very treed as I remember.

Oh, there's trees aplenty... though almost 300 of 'em are about to be cut down. The entire course is going through an extensive renovation starting in February. A bit inconvenient, but very exciting, as the course really needs it.

It's Scottbox, LOL! 

 

The renovation was badly needed. The course has grass that's only good when the weather is temperate or cold, and just goes to hell when the weather gets above 90* (Tarzana during the summer gets well over that). The grass also wastes massive amounts of water. El Cab should've replaced it 5 years ago with water-efficient hybrid when the LADWP offered huge replacement rebates- but stupidly, they didn't, so our water bills have been enormous. So, we're going with much better, more water-thrifty grass. The greens are going to be up to 50% larger to allow for more pin placements and with less severity in slope.  The bunkers are, of course, being replaced. Many of the holes are going to be made more playable by  utilizing slope moderation, a huge amount of tree removal, and moving some of the tees (including hole 2, thankfully).

 

We're also adding tee boxes,  introducing collection areas off the green with tight grass, moving fairway bunkers, re-routing cart paths, and replacing the mish-mash landscaping design with something more unified and water-efficient. And, we just redid our range and short game areas, which look incredible. Range is open, short game area will open in March, and the course will be closed from Feb-Nov. That said, the result should be amazing... and, our reciprocals are pretty damn good.

Who is doing the renovation work? Also was the assessment painful? I’m guessing your reciprocals are Wilshire, Lakeside and Sherwood amongst others. Tough to get the big three

Robert Trent Jones III is doing the work, so they're keeping it in the family. Assessment was steep, but I joined the club for peanuts. Reciprocals are awesome-- Brentwood, Hillcrest, Lakeside, Sherwood, among others. LACC, Bel-Air and Riv are def no-gos. Whatever, I've got friends at those spots.

I believe Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are members at Wilshire. And Alfonso Ribero at Lakeside. Hit them up.

 

I did have a buddy that was a member at Wilshire and took me out once, but he moved back to Australia.

Your pro can call wilshire. I played it may of 19 it was a lot of fun. Pricey with a caddie but fun.

Not likely - least from my experience.  Many upscale clubs talk reciprocal, but shy away from actually supporting it.  Mostly because guests tend to get a bit giddy when they encounter certain members of those clubs.  If anyone can, your Pro is the one to make the call.

Dude, I grew up in L.A. I could give a toss about Marky Mark and the middle-age bunch.

Maybe true, except club leaders don't presume, and more importantly, must protect the integrity of their membership.  Just saying.

If you get to bring guests to any of those clubs, I’d be happy to join you! Member at the oaks in Valencia is about all my budget can afford.
