Recommendations for something similar to fujikura speeder evolution 661 stiff

I have recently been playing a Mizuno ST 190 driver with a stiff Tensei 65 Blue CK shaft.  I hit it pretty well and got some really nice distance when i was swinging well- (my three wood is an epic flash with a tensei 75 stiff AV series shaft- which I feel like I like a lot better for some reason- it feels whippier yet more stabile like I dont leave it open or over close it as much on the release- maybe the tip is stiffer and a higher launch- i really dont know much about shafts)

I can't afford to get fitted right now.  As business has been super slow and christmas.  So i'm trying to be frugal and smart about my shaft demoing (I can comfortably buy and sell used shafts and install them and I feel like I gotta get used to a club for a while to really get to know it)  So can anyone help me with some shaft recommendations with all this info below?

I think I swing about 100-105mph- in the summer my arccos average ran 245 and maybe a 260 average when I'm really feeling it- and 230 when I can't keep it straight and lose distance.  the longest on flat ground I seem to get is like 285 or so when its rolling well (not including wind)

Anywho- I broke the shaft on my st 190 and have always grabbed my buddies Ping G20 with a fujikura speeder evolution 661 in stiff (the original speeder evolution I series in blue maybe its a 665?)

I am absolutely spot on accurate with this thing- today I hit 11/14 fairways and I probably normally hit 6-9 fairways out of 14 a round.  I dont get quite as much distance with it- even when I absolutely pelt it.  Its strange- the lie angle or the shape of the head makes this driver (ping g20) SEEM MUCH shorter (seems like its at least 1" maybe 1.5") but it measures maybe 3/16" longer at most.

I definitely feel more action in the fujikura shaft than the tensei- like I feel it flex at the beginning of the downshwing and I feel like I whip it harder and faster on the release- its at least 10 yards shorter than the mizuno- maybe more when I really get ahold of the mizuno- but I dont feel like I really get ahold of the st190 w/tensei perfectly very often- when I do it flies- actually when i hit it high on the face it doesn't feel nearly as solid at impact but it just goes forever when I get to my ball (always like a surprise)- but I almost always feel like I'm pounding the ping w/speeder. And the tensei was a huge improvement over my old hallway fusion driver with a diamana red board in stiff.

are the old taylormade branded fujikura speeders close to the speeder evolutions?

how do the fujikura atmos black 6s driver shafts compare?  Ive found one for a reasonable price- anybody got anything they'd like to sell?

Thanks a bunch!

The Speeder 661 Evo 1 is a mid launch, mid spin shaft according to the Fujikura website. Assuming this matches what you played, I’d be looking for other shafts also in the blueboard sort of space.

I’ve only played the Tensei CK Pro Blue recently, but to me this feels like it has a lower balance point than some of the others out there - so worth trying to find out which balance point feel you like.

A few to consider:

- Diamana S+/Diamana B/ Diamana BF
- Atmos Blue / Atmos Tour Spec Blue

- Project X T800

You should be able to pickup one of these for a decent price 👍

Thanks.  I found the tensei ck blue stiff to be lower launching and not nearly as much action as the fujikura speeder.   The speeder is almost too high launching.  But I’m guessing the low spin st190 head would bring that down as compared to the g20 head.

thanks for the input.

I did find something out that surprised me.  The speeder evolution I is supposedly similar to the speeder evo vi (or maybe v) which fujikura classified as firm butt- medium middle- medium tip. On a ranking scale of soft medium firm hard stiff.

but it also has relatively low torque... is that a typical shaft profile?  I do feel like I can control the speeder better than any shaft I’ve ever played.  I’d probably ideally get something slightly less flexible.

do the shafts you listed meet that criteria for the full profile?  I always assumed I like softer handle profiles and firmer tips. But I guess it’s the opposite.

Do yours answers stay the same?

  • 1 year later...

I bought a Titleist 917 D2 on eBay with the Speeder Evo I 661 for the sole purpose of reshafting it  in my Tour Edge EXS 220. Tight dispersion is the goal, not looking for massive distance. First range session in terrible windy conditions and this thing was almost always spot on with my target. So far so good, need to get on trackman to see the real data though. Feels boardy but I feel like I can attack the ball. Was playing a hzrds smoke black stiff and it felt so whippy. Good luck
