Fujikura Evo IV vs Ventus Black

Looking for feedback on these two shafts?

Evo 4 was a fantastic shaft just looking to try some of the later tech from Fuji..

Have been playing Tensei Pro white and Accra’s TZ 6 lately

I’m testing and EVO IV now.  It feels fantastic.  Been playing a Motore speeder vc 6.2 for the last 3 years.  From my limited testing, I believe the Ventus black has a tighter feel to it.  The EVO IV feels more lively.

Which Evo IV are you referring to? 661? 757?

 

Also, what flex in each are you playing?

About as different of profiles as you can get.  The EVO IV is more stiff butt, soft middle compared to the Ventus Black which is soft handle, stiff mid.

Very different shafts that will fit different players. I would say if you've had success with this profile in the past you should be fine.

FWIW I switched from the TZ6 65 M5 (which I really like) to the Ventus Black 6X and ain't going back.

Can you compare the 2 shafts from your experience?

Yes it is, really good. It won out over a TZ5, DIamana ZF and DF, Rogue Silver 130, Ventus Black and Blue 6X, and a Kiyoshi Black (my go-to for the past 7-8 years) and even an old OG Whiteboard 73X.

 

It was time to build me a new driver and was looking for the most accurate Low/Low profile shaft I could handle. The TZ6 won out as the best of lot for a combination of distance and accuracy but after playing it thru the summer I felt something wasn't quite right (and yes part of it could've been me). The distance was there most of the time but I was losing accuracy. Like going from 73 to 63 % fairways hit and that's not my game. So going through my notes I noticed the Ventus Black was the most accurate of the bunch and one day after a bad driving round I pulled the Accra and glued the Ventus. After a 40 ball warm-up/test drive I was ready to take it to the course. Over the next 6 rounds my fairways hit was 83% and the distance was exactly 2 yards less. I knew I'd found my new driver shaft.

 

To compare them I'll say the Black is stiffer in the mid and feels a bit more linear than the TZ6 and I do not notice a slight kick like I did in the TZ6. But it isn't boardy at all. In the TZ6 I can feel (without looking) the quality of the shot and can call the miss. With the Ventus, I've been fooled a few times feeling the shot was gonna be trashy only to find it in the fairway or first cut. In short, the Ventus allows me to manage my misses 20% more effectively without sacrificing distance and feels as good as any 661 or 757 I've ever swung.

 

PS Since you're looking at the Evo 4 (which is different than the other 5 versions of the the Evo having a stiffer in the low mid section) I'll suggest you look for a Fuji Diamond Speeder. The profile is remarkably similar and the Diamond is a better built shaft. This is the shaft I was going to try had the Ventus Black not worked out as well as it did. Check it out.

I appreciate the feedback..

I’ve had the TZ6 and Evo IV in the stable for a few years now. Both long shafts. Looking at increasing horsepower with any tech. But I know Ventus prides itself on accuracy and center strikes.

is the Speeder Diamond a weak JDM spec shaft?

No, it's lightweight but definitely not weak.
