Ping ZZ lite Shafts - need expert help on specs

I’m looking to track down the exact specs for the Ping ZZ lite shafts used in the Ping Eye 2 irons. I have searched the history. I seen some veg details but no specifics. My end game is to try to find a very close match using today’s shafts. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Specifications of the Ping ZZ Lite

The Ping ZZ Lite is an extremely lightweight, steel golf club shaft with a high flex point and a stiff tip section. Only weighing 115 grams with a torque of 1.9 degrees, the ZZ Lite allows users a nice relaxed swing which will always lead to better golfing.

I have seen the data thanks. I’ve had several people say they are like DG x100 some say they are like TT DG 115 (which I think is only a wedge shaft now) several TT lite XL and several ZZ76 which also no longer exist. So I have some basic info but have yet to figure out if there is a modern available shaft profile that matches. I was hoping for some butt mid and tip specs but that was probably a long shot given how old these shafts are. Thanks for all the comments.

I've always heard the TT Lite XL was a very close match.

As memory serves, the ZZ Lite was said to be the old True Temper Extralite shaft, in X flex.  The Extralite X played a bit stiffer than DGS, maybe a hardstepped S400, or a hint more than that.  It seemed to fit the requirements Karsten Solheim had for his shafts.  🙂

 

The Extralite is reported to have largely disappeared during the run of Eye2/Eye2+, probably because Ping worked a deal, and possibly because they may not have been all that popular.  That last part is personal speculation.

 

I cant discount that they could well be the TTLiteXL tapered shaft, in stiff.  It was reputed to be pretty stiff, the Stiff flex measuring stiffer than DGS in the old Dynacraft DSFI.  

 

The specs for both the Extralite and TTLiteXL tapered were fairly close, FWIW.

Have a set of Eye2+ with ZZLite shafts.  Just took a look at the step pattern, the step length doesn't match up with the TTLiteXL step configuration found on True Temper's site.

Soft stepped (maybe even double softstepped?) TTLiteXL could get you in the ballpark, assuming they haven't changed the shaft in its new incarnation.

JZ (Regular & Stiff): Weight: 109.8g ®, 115.1g (S) Torque: 1.9 ® 1.7 (S) Description: A mid weight steel shaft that plays a little softer than the Z-Z65 and ZZ-Lite. A very common shaft in Zing, Zing 2, and ISI irons. Ball Flight: Due to the mid flex point of this shaft it is designed to hit the ball between the CS-Lite and the Z-Z65. (NOT available for new orders)

 

DGS (Stiff): Weight: 124.5g Torque: 1.5 Description: Dynamic Gold S-400. A heavy shaft with a high flex point and a stiff tip section. Ball Flight: Weight of this shaft should hit the ball lower then all of the shafts except the DGX.

 

DGX (X-Stiff): Weight: 122.8g Torque: 1.4 Description: Dynamic Gold X-100. A heavy shaft with a high flex point and a very stiff tip section. Ball Flight: This shaft is heavy and aimed at players with a high swing speed or quick tempo. The shaft should produce the lowest ball flight of all shafts listed.

 

KT & KT-M (Stiff): Weight: 106g Torque: 1.9 Description: A mid weight shaft with a high flex point and stiff tip section. These shafts are most commonly found in Eye2, and Zing irons. Ball Flight: Mid, similar to ZZ-Lite (NOT available for new orders)

 

Microtaper (Stiff): Weight: 115g Torque: 1.9 Description: A mid-weight shaft with a high flex point and stiff tip section. This shaft is very similar to the KT Shaft. Most commonly found in the K series, Eye, and Eye 2 irons. Ball Flight: Mid, similar to ZZ-Lite (NOT available for new orders)

Thanks for providing the information related to the older Ping Steel Shafts. I tried most of them at one time or another but preferred the Z- Z65 shafts. I had no idea that they were 108.8 grams with a 1.6 torque rating. As time went by and I aged, I found them to be too stiff. The glory days are well behind me But I consider it a privilege to have played a few models over the years. They were all good time.
