Hybrid pros & cons: Ping G410 vs Srixon H85

I’m planning on replacing my Exotics EXS hybrid with one of the above. For anyone who has tried both, what is your opinion of each and which would you choose?

I have the g410 22 hybrid playing at 21 degrees in the flat setting as my 3 iron replacement.

 

Haven’t hooked it yet and hybrids were a nightmare for me as my miss is left.

 

other option I have had success with is 818 in the B1/C1 setting

Ping G410 5 hybrid is the best hitting club I have ever owned. Just amazing. It is not long, just easy to hit and distance control is there, and goes high which I like. This club executes shots as planned. I smile every time I pull it out of the bag.

I have only demoed the 410 in a 19* and the only reason I didn't buy it was because I was getting too much distance out of it, but overall it seemed to be a really solid hybrid.  I do own the H85 in 22*.  I love just about everything about it but like the F85, it sits a little upright, or closed looking.  It does tend to want to go left and launches high but it feels and sounds great.  I may be trying it in a 19* and see how it is.

If you need a flatter setting like a lot of people do the Ping G410 will be a huge benefit. If you're pretty standard on like then the fixed neck of the Srixon might work and kinda go with which ever you like better.

What do you have the g410 5 playing at -- 26?  Also, noticed you have a Cobra 4-5 in the bag before the g410.  Is it the F7 4-5 curious how you are playing that one.  I am back and forth between Cobra F7 and G410 hybs...may play both F7 3/4 and 4/5 or may try to work in a g410 before or after.  Thanks, JT

I've had both. Never got along with the G410 for whatever reason. I wanted to but maybe I just never tried the right shaft. Tried the stock Alta shaft and a Matrix Altus but never felt confident with the club.

The stock HZRDUS black is stout in the H85. I hit some bombs with it but generally did not elevate it. Put a Tensei White in it and that was a little better but I could never hit it consistently. I have M6 & Apex 2019 hybrids that I've put the same Tensei White in and have had much better success. Longer, higher and better dispersion. FWIW I really liked the H45 with the stock Kuro Kage years ago, which is why I gave the H85 a shot.

I completely topped my drive on a 330 yard par 4 today. I was lying 230 from the pin and pulled out my 19-degree H85 with a Smoke 85g shaft.  Nice and easy swing (no pressure after all!) and I landed 20 feet past the pin, then spun back a few feet for birdie opportunity and tap-in par. This was with a  no-name freebee golf ball and on a 48 degree morning. 

 

I haven't played the Ping, but the Srixon is superb.  Long, easy to hit, straight, loads of spin. When it is warmer out it goes 250 easily and is the easiest club in the bag to hit.  I don't get a chance to play it often though: long Par 5s will call for a 4-wood on the second shot (especially in the winter) and when I have to play this on a par 4, it is due to a typical royal tee shot screwup.  

 

If I miss with it I can't blame the club!  They are cheap at GlobalGolf. With discount, I think I paid $87 for mine, brand new.

The 4-5 SZ is a demo club and much shorter than a 5 hybrid. I don't think you can find them to easily, and it is too short in length anyways. I can really knock that club. I use it for a 6 hybrid . The 5 hybrid is set at 26*, and it goes. I had a horrible time with pull hooks all day, especially the driver. When the weather warms up it should be a lot better. I plan on being in North Carolina next week, and it will be much warmer. Never played golf there, and can't wait.

I still game the H45. I bought the H65 and H85 as well, but they were flatter flight and I prefer the Kuro Kage black profile. If I try the new ZX hybrid, I’ll go with the riptide shaft or another optional shaft with a profile similar to Kuro Kage. 

 

If I went with the G410, I’d probably opt for the Tensei Pro Blue. I like to hit hybrids high!

Need a hybrid to fill the gap. H85 seems to be very affordable and people don't have anything bad to say about it. I will go test it out soon against some of the other hybrids and report back with my findings.

I ended up buying a 22 degree PXG 0317 X. I’ve yet to swing it since we have a lot of snow in the northeast but it is a great looking club.
