AK in 2021

I bet Callaway would pay it for him or any other OEM if he would do a long term deal. To me, that’s why I feel like he quit. 10 mil is one year of on and off course earnings for his level. He took the money and gave up.

Sad.  I liked him but maybe he just did not like tour golf. He has a good personality.   Someone asked Boo Weekley if he liked to play golf and he said he would rather be fishing.  Boo's career is probably done due to tendinitis.

Here was AK with Tiger at a Nike thing when AK was hot.   AK also may have had that pushy Asian parents thing that Michelle Wie had.   Sean O'Hair had it with his dad too plus Tiger as well.  AK family were not wealthy.  Maybe AK got sick of golf and the pressure.

I think that vid does a great job of showing why people are still interested in AK. There really aren't a lot of players who seem to bring their full personality to the tour that way. With more modern guys I get it because social media and the like tear them down for every little thing, but even before that very few that you'd hear anecdotes about their great sense of humor, warmth, whatever, showed it much in interviews and segments.

I enjoyed watching him. He really did bring something that a lot of others don't and probably managed to keep a decent number of otherwise non golf fans tuning in.

I never bought what Boo Weekley was selling, he said a hundred times he would retire as soon as he had enough enough for some land, house and a boat. He made enough for his own fully outfitted island chain but still chases it when he is able. Ironically he played so much (after having 50x what he said he wanted) that he injured himself.

Well... to play Devil's Advocate here... that depends on where you want your land, your idea of "a little land"/"a house"/"a boat", and other expenses. For all we know, his dream was 250 acres in Manhattan with his own damn lake being overlooked by a 10,000 square foot villa and fishing from Tiger's yacht. It's all perspective 🙂

AK is gone. Plus even if he wanted to come back the game is so far past him it would be a ugly disaster. He was one of the most inaccurate drivers ever on tour to have any success. I think now he would not only be inaccurate but also very short. None starter here.... It is getting a little annoying that someone that has not played golf for over 10 years is still considered relevant in the slightest.

I think any guy who is out of professional sports for a year or two would have a hard time coming back.

Golf and probably tennis are among the most competitive in the world especially golf.  There are probably 700 guys good enough to be on the few pro golf tours (PGA, Euro, Korn Ferry, Asian tours) who are not on the tour.

That's fair. I usually don't pay much attention to the AK sightings but as I've mentioned, the caption piqued my interest as it seemed to suggest "big things" for AK in 2021 and came from a reputable source (his long time coach).

Anyway, I'm probably making much ado about nothing.

Maybe they are both opening an insurance company.  That would be a big thing.

well the main thing is actually getting onto the PGA tour. There are tons of guys good enough to be on PGA tour but haven't lucked out to get onto it, takes some luck. Anthony has a medical exemption to get back on pga tour or no?

Maybe after dealing with cancer his outlook changed. People change their minds.

Supposedly if he swings a club in any tourney - he has to pay the money back.

AK has participated in a few charity events over the years and hasn't had to pay his insurance money back.

He should get his "Amateur" status back, then get some sponsor exemptions to see if he can still be competitive. If he is still good, he can easily make 10 million in a couple of years through endorsements and purses.

He’s unlikely to get his amateur status back, he was too prominent as a professional. I’m also not sure why he would need to in your plan.

He would get absolutely trucked right now if he returned to professional golf anyway, not sure how he would be worth ten million to anyone.

Depends on what his following is like. I've seen some social media "stars" who couldn't find the word talent in the dictionary yet somehow bring millions in through sponsorships and deals. Play the right angle and I'm sure he's worth some dollars if his game were remotely there. Just playing devil's advocate.

That said, I'd certainly watch if he showed up somewhere.
