My guess is RL will drop him by Friday, though these days it could be by tonight.   Using this word is not a great idea if you're in a business relationship with a fashion company.

 

I'm frankly amazed at all the posts giving him, or anyone using it, a pass...the word he used is a hate word, not a curse word.  They are completely different, and as I said previously, most of us learn the difference when we are young.

 

It's not a word you just pick up and start using when you're 28 years old.

I'm a big fan of JT and I'm disappointed he said it. Though I'm not going to stop being a fan and I just hope he does learn from this with little repercussion. He seems like a good kid that just has some learning to do. 

 

I'm 43 years old ... from a small town in the south where the n-word is still used judicially to this day. Of course I grew up using it as an insult to my buddies. But as I got older and out into the world, I learned it's hurtful slur - so I removed it from my vocabulary. Not because I'm "PC" - whatever that means - but because I don't want to be the kind of careless person who would intentionally hurt my friends. 

 

It's easy as a straight white guy to not fully understand the power of a slur towards a marginalized group because, well ... straight white guys haven't really been particularly marginalized throughout history. We've kinda been the people marginalizing others. So when I'm told "Dude, that word is offensive to me - please don't use it," I tend to believe the person being hurt by it as opposed to my presumption that it's not a big deal.

I’m surprised you don’t give him a pass given the context.

 

You can’t expect people to *not be unfortunately conditioned in certain ways due to the sum of their life experience and exposures. 
 

I can have completely non pc thoughts fire into my head in heightened anger. It’s visceral and a product of all the non pc influence I have experienced.
 

What we can expect is for reason to prevail in our understanding that these are unacceptable prejudices. And to pick up on them when the enter our thoughts and able to measure our behavior.

 

JT suffered a lapse in that mental discipline. Maybe it’s appropriate he suffer consequences.

 

But, the consequences should factor the full man. Not a comment uttered to himself in a moment of anger.

Yet another opportunity for people to confuse freedom of speech with freedom from social repurcussions from said speech. What you say matters. You don't get to use hate speech and then put it on someone else for being "outraged". You are the problem in that scenario. Grow up honestly that stuff stops being funny after high school.

 

Although i don't think it'll be a big deal in the end. Seemed like a sincere apology. But damn just stop micing everything up we really don't need to catch everything like that.

This is just More cry baby BS. As if the world doesn’t have much bigger fish to fry right now. Such as social media platforms actively canceling the leader of the free world.

 

Although if they are gonna end Tr**p (sad this is an offensive word now) JT probably doesn’t stand a freaking chance.

Why should they stop putting mics everywhere... we want to hear player reactions way more than announcer BS... the players have to understand they are on a stage and need to mind their manners so we don’t lose on course mics.

 

They get payed more than enough to hold their tongue so we can have a more enjoyable broadcast.

I stand corrected, just checked Apple Music and the original version is there.  80’s on 8 plays the edited version as well as local classic radio.

Whoever mentioned there being degrees of crimes is spot on. That’s what cancel culture doesn’t grasp and is the source of backlash against cancel culture. Context matters. 
 

EVERYONE agrees that JT was wrong for using the word. He was called out, got embarrassed and has learned his lesson. Time to move on.

Anyone from the LGBTQ community care to comment on how what J.T. said and how it may affect some marginalized people? I think that’s the perspective that really matters in this instance. That slur doesn’t affect me personally, so my perspective doesn’t really matter or hold any water. As I posted earlier, I do have a gay friend who said it didn’t bother him, but he knows it will blow up a bit due to it’s effect on some. Just playing devils advocate a bit, but we can sit here and say it’s no big deal when it actually could be to someone. 
Just a thought for adult civil discussion.

Probably more to do with they are out in the middle of a big golf course with no fans and just so easy to forget those mics are there.  Not claiming any high ground, but it's just a word it has never occurred to me to use.  I say plenty of other stuff that's profane, bad habit, I know it's pointless, that would have potential to offend someone but if I was muttering, "you ______ idiot" to myself and it was picked up on a mic in a pro golf tournament (actually sounds like a pretty good scenario, lol) yes, I know there are mics around and shouldn't be using inappropriate language, but . . . . it's less than a once second exchange with myself that doesn't need to be blown out of all proportion.  Of course, it would be and Justin deserves some flak, but it happened, he offered what seemed like a sincere apology and I'm sure he'll be expected to relive it and apologize over and over and over because it just won't be enough.  His problem, comes with the territory, it's a social media circus, gotcha world out there.
