MMT driver shafts: Anyone tried it?

KingKong

Recommended Posts

Have an #7 MMT 80g r shaft in stock.

It is strong; and very steady. Not a soft feel.

The tip stands out imho.

I was so excited that I ordered a 60 gram X  wood shaft for my self which is on back order.  Though I do fit in the lower end of the recommended chs range,

i wonder/hope/pray that the weight-stiffness ratio is a good match for me.

If a shaft is too light and stiff I tend to dislike it.  Delivery mid february.

My son just got fitted into his new Cally woods this week and was playing an AD DI 6X in his current set up and said the MMT 6X was too stout for him.  It was a 2 hour fitting and he tried everything in his usual range.

He's a scratch golfer playing on a scholarship in college with a 110 swing speed.

Probably not too helpful.  The shaft must be pretty stiff, because he likes playing the stiffer profiles for his SS.

that is very interesting, i play the TP 6X and now being in my mid 30's with a bad back am only swinging it around 104-105mph. i found the MMT 6X felt quite similar to that feel of the TP. never liked the DI it felt too loose in the hands and middle. this just goes to show it's all about fitting and how you load the shaft. i'm sure your son would out drive me all day but a slower swing speed player can feel something different all together

I demo'd the MMT 60 X the other day, only because they did not have the MMT 60 S in the cart, or at least we couldn't find it.  SS 90-94 mph.  I actually didn't find the 60 X ridiculously stiff, and it gave virtually identical launch and spin numbers as the HZRDUS Smoke IM 10 50 6.0 with the Epic Max head.  YMMV.

I was demoing the new epic line today and tried a speed head with mmt 70x. It definitely didn't feel too stout  but yes I would like to try the 60 stiff. I am trying to decide between the MMT and the IM 10 shaft.  Anyone compare both?

Interested to see others thoughts as well. No information anywhere.

Here is the info from Mitsubishi.  They are calling it mid launch/low spin.

I have the MMT 60 stiff with the new Epic Max drivers.  I’ve only been able to hit it indoors, so I can’t really draw a conclusion.  In some indoor hitting today, I seemed to prefer some of my existing shafts like the Rogue White 60.  I need to see it out on the course to really get a feel for it.

You should be able to demo it if you really want to, with the new Callaways at least..

I've hit the MMT 80X in the Apex Pro hybrid a bunch. Can't say its exactly smooth feeling but not quite boardy either? Honestly it sort of felt like the Hzrdus Smoke shafts that were stock in everything the past few years, and I hate those. A very anonymous feeling shaft.

Did the normal driver fitting...hit all heads and shafts for new year. Comparing against all OEM offerings the Callaway MMT 70x combo was the only thing i hit consistently left...more than i am comfortable with. My combo fits me well and performs as good as any of the new stuff this year. Going to keep it and wait. Ymmv.

Thanks, I had already visited MCA's site. I am wondering what everyone's opinions are that have played them.

I have the MMT 125 TX in my irons and I find them easy to load.  Then again my ss is 117 on average these days.  I have gamed the DI for many years and I didn't find it hard to load either.  Was the MMT 6x tipped?  Also, I noticed that all the MMT shafts are mid kick on their website.

@phizzy30 My son is a smooth loader with his woods and only around 110. I too have the 125 TX's in one of my sets of irons and I find them quite smooth and soft with a very stable tip. This specific post was about the driver shaft and I haven't tried that myself and was just relaying what my boy told me when he got home from his fitting.

I only mentioned the iron shafts because the wood shafts also seem to be the same if not similar in terms of profile.  I can see why he could've had a hard time loading the MMT.  He has more than enough ss to handle x flex, but it may be because of his transition that he prefers s flex.  Thanks for the insight though.

Played the first round with my MMT 60X driver shaft.  Overall pretty good performance, very windy today but the ball seemed to fly right through it.  Not the most lively in terms of feel but performance was solid.  I'm intrigued and hoping to get out on a less windy day very soon.

Ordered Epic MAX LS with 70 Stiff MMT.  Driving is usually best part of my game but I did not get along with the shaft and was losing the ball right which I rarely do.  Switched the shaft and installed an Oban Devotion Stiff and problem solved.  Going to give the MMT another try tomorrow just to be sure if the shaft doesn't work for me or if it was my swing the first time I used it.   The Epic MAX LS btw is a monster!

I have the mmt 60 stiff.  I find it to bed great.  I'm a long time diamana white board player.  I think it feels like a whiteboard with a little more feel.  Like whiteboard performance with blue board feel. I really like it.
