Dynamic Gold Lite Wood Shafts - Tip Trimming

I've had some real success with an old DG X100 in my 7 wood (5-wood to me at 20 degrees!) so I snapped up some more of them that came up on eBay to mess around with in other clubs. It turns out on closer inspection once they arrived that the shafts I've bought weren't listed properly and they are actually 'Dynamic Gold Lite' X100. I'm still keen to give them a go but now I have no idea what the tip trimming instruction are and I can't find them online. As I'm in the UK we can't get access to the old Golfworks brochures online that will probably have them in somewhere. Does anybody know the suggested tip trim instructions for these shafts?

 

To make things a little more complicated there are heaps of 'old wives tales' and theories about the tipping of the standard DG wood shafts that go against what True Temper say. Essentially it seems the consensus is that you should tip trim to playing length with no butt trimming to get them to play 'to flex' and from my brief experience it's one that I agree with. Anyway, does that theory work on the 'lite' version too? The tip section is a lot shorter so assuming not and I'm thinking that these may have been designed for standard bore heads rather than the thru-bores that the standard DG were initially designed to play in.

 

Any information from someone that has experience of fitting Dynamic Gold Lite Wood shafts would be appreciated!!

All Dynamic TT shafts had the same tip trim instructions.  If they are tapered shafts, you obviously trim from the butt only. 

Parallel tip shafts you need to tip trim and butt trim.

0" for Driver

1/2" for 3 wd

1" for 5 & 7 wd

Thanks, but I can't read any of the links to old golfworks brochures from the UK, I think due to a law over here that was introduced about online privacy/data that their website doesn't adhere to. We just see an error code on their site from the UK.

 

Anyway, I know the standard TT tipping instructions but as per the attached photo of an old guide and the thread below, for the older shafts we have to account for bore-thru heads etc. first and on top of that the the various theories about the feel of the standard DG wood shafts. Was the 'Lite' version designed for bore-thru heads? Is there an equivalent of the 7 or 8" bottom of bore to first step rule for the 'Lite' version as well?

The shafts are 0.335" tip so these days that would usually be called a 'taper' tip, but for the older bore-thru wood shafts that was often a 'parallel' tip. The whole of the 6.5" tip section is 0.335" suggesting it's classed as a parallel tip and would work in a bore-thru? Were these designed for bore-thru and therefore need extra tipping? With only 6.5" to fist step, it seems pretty close to the hosel if tipped for a high lofted wood.

I know in general the "Lite" played softer in flex vs the standard DG.   Don't know what the standard tipping recommendations were, but I wouldn't hesitate to tip them extra, regardless of where the first step is....as long as you have enough parallel section to work with.

 

I do recall that Taylormade used the Lite as a stock option in their V-steel fairway woods

The correct tip trimming for those would be what I would call "classic" tip trim amounts before True Temper changed it a few years ago.  For clubs with a standard hosel bore depth, the tip trim amounts are as follows:

 

Driver 1 1/4"

2 Wood 1 1/2"

3 Wood 1 3/4"

4 Wood 2"

5 Wood and beyond 2 1/4"

 

For bore thru hosels subtract 1 1/4" from these amounts.  Trust me, I have built a ton of woods with DG steel shafts, and these trim amounts are correct.  They are burned into my brain, lol.

These are good tip trims too.  Literally anything was used by different people.   Many adjusted tip trim based on head weight.  Heavier head, more trim.
