I have been following in the news as much as i can, and I see that schools are opening back up but everything else is still closed through 4/15. Has there been any mention when travel will be opened back up? I have my trip in October and am still optomistic in it happening, but have not heard anything about future travel plans.

I've not heard anything regarding specific dates other than travel will not open before July.

I suspect if everything stays on track October will be fine but definitely keep your eyes on it, BBC News is your best place to keep track of it.

How are things looking on The Emerald Isle? Is there any schedule yet about reopening the country? Last I read there was supposed to be an update on the 15th, but I can’t find any news on it.

They are in lockdown. Less than 10% of the population is vaccinated. UK strain is the issue.

There was no guidance offered but different options were given. Put it off early to have better odds to get the same trip in ‘22. Or wait and see with hopes they open up.

So no news except wait and see.

Courses open April 26th, members only and only 2 households. It’s expected all going well that about 4 weeks later we might have 4 balls allowed, 4 weeks after that visitors and green fees allowed)

people can still only travel 20k from home through April and May.

( a 400 person wedding in August seems unlikely, no firm plans for clothes shops, restaurants or pubs to reopen, a best hope would be shops in may, restaurants in June, pubs in July either outside only or with social distancing)

vaccinations are only at less that 10% of people here, only on over 70s still, it’s ramping up to 100-250k a week. So June/July/August will see most of country having vaccines but probably not early enough for sports crowds or more than 100 person weddings so example.

Here is the latest position:

Covid latest for The UK & Ireland:

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a Covid briefing at 10 Downing Street earlier today and is very optimistic on the resumption of International travel on May 17th. The countries which will be green lighted and exempt from quarantine will be released closer to May 17th and the British government are currently working on fine tuning a Covid Status Certification program to be better prepared for international visitors and identifying those who are vaccinated or have previously recovered from Covid-19.
.....................
Ireland has had a slow start regarding the vaccine rollout when comparing to the UK, with this said they are about to cross the 1,000,000 vaccines administered threshold in the coming days.
Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Michael Martin announced last week that the vaccine rollout will be ramped up aggressively over the coming weeks and months with the delivery of 1,000,000 doses in each month for April, May & June.
Ireland are currently in Level 5 of their restrictions which is essentially full lockdown with a few exceptions. The next easing of restrictions will be on April 12th and will continue easing further as the case numbers decrease.
We still don't have a definitive date for reopening in Ireland for International leisure travel, but we are optimistic at this time, that the later part of the season will see a resumption of some International travel.

One thing to note when it says UK above it really means England. Scotland often does its own thing when it comes to covid restrictions etc. I live in Scotland and people here are not confident in international travel before June or July at the earliest.  I'll be surprised if they allow international travel into Scotland May 17.

Back playing golf since yesterday here, 2 households and members only per group. Most clubs taking that to mean 2 balls and no competitions. that’s to align with current regulations that only two households should meet and only outdoors. Slow opening is intended to mean no future rollback. Current expectation is that gradual reopening will continue across May and June but the focus will be on outdoor events.

Thanks for the update. We are all crossing our fingers and hoping for the best by late September. We are still full go as of now, but we also undertand that it could change quickly for the good or the better. Please keep the updates coming as your hear them. I am looking every few days for updates but they are very vague when made, and almost no mention of golf. Here's to being able to travel, lift a few pints, and play some great golf courses....

So latest here is quite a ramp up of opening. From may 10th all clubs can open for visitors and members, 4 balls allowed formal comps not allowed. From June 2nd hotels can reopen with indoor bar and food, but for overnight guests only. From June 17th outdoor services in all bars and restaurants can open. Indoor bar and restaurants hoped for July. (Assuming vaccinations keep current pace)

Visitors from USA still have mandatory quarantine currently though. Vaccine passports are expected to be allowed bypass this in mid summer.

Nothing major since, al courses open, but not the locker rooms and bars etc. all shops reopen tomorrow. Most other businesses are now open, it’s really just food and beverage closed now.  Bars and restaurants still expected June 7th for outdoor service only. Hotels expected to be open sooner, with all facilities open for guests. Vaccine distribution has accelerated rapidly, in the next week we start with 50+ Age range, the week after 40+ expected.

there is talk of test events for sports spectators etc, but also some concern about the Indian variant being present in the UK which would make transition to here quite easy. We have some confirmed cases of that variant already.

it’s expected that travel will be allowed from anywhere with vaccine passports in July onward

latest info on travel from:

https://www.independent.ie/news/august-at-earliest-for-holidays-abroad-tanaiste-leo-varadkar-40434817.html

The month of August might be the “earliest” before holidays abroad will be allowed, according to Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.

Some European countries may request that incoming passengers are fully vaccinated, or do a test, or both, before arrival.

The Tánaiste said that currently, it is against the law to travel in or out of the country for non-essential reasons.

However, he said that this law may be changed towards the end of the summer and travel to Britain may be allowed earlier.

“I think it’s more towards the end of the summer that it’s more likely around August at the earliest before we’ll be saying to people that it’s okay to engage in non essential international travel,” he said.

Following the introduction of the EU Digital Green Cert, some member states will have “flexibility” how they can utilise it

Some countries might say [that] a test is enough, other countries might say you have to be vaccinated, other countries might say, you might have to be vaccinated and have a test,” he said

Mr Varadkar said that mandatory hotel quarantine will be in place for “quite some time”.

“It is my ambition, intention and hope that we’re going to be able to restore the Common Travel Area with Britain very soon.

“There will large parts of the world that will not be vaccinated fully or even extensively until the middle of next year.

“Australia, New Zealand, China and others will not be vaccinated until middle of next year.

“Large parts of the developing world, India, Brazil, aren’t going to be vaccinated for quite some time as well.”

“I think we will have some form of mandatory hotel quarantine for people travelling to and from those high risk areas.

He said that for European countries, as well as America, Israel and the Middle East, it may be possible to allow travel into those countries sooner.

Passengers arriving into Ireland from outside EU/EEA

From 19 July, Ireland will also broadly align itself to the EU approach to non-essential travel into the EU from third countries.

To protect its citizens against importation of variants, an ‘emergency brake’ mechanism will be coordinated at EU level to react swiftly to the emergence of a variant of concern or variant of interest.

Government advice will be to avoid travel to a country where the emergency brake has been applied.

Scenario One – journey originates in a country to which the EU has not applied an ‘Emergency Brake’

If passenger has valid proof of vaccination, no travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary.

If passenger does not have valid proof of vaccination, they will need to:

  • present evidence of a negative PCR test result within 72 hours prior to arrival into the country
  • self-quarantine
  • undergo post-arrival testing - this will be provided through the HSE

Scenario 2 – journey originates in a country to which the EU has applied an ‘Emergency Brake’

If passenger has valid proof of vaccination, they will need to:

  • produce a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival
  • undergo self-quarantine
  • undergo post-arrival testing - this will be provided through the HSE

  • produce evidence of a negative result from a PCR test undertaken no more than 72 hours before arrival
  • undergo mandatory hotel quarantine
  • undergo post-arrival testing

There won’t be any green list and it’s unclear on the ‘emergency brake’ EU list right now.

Ireland has a list of designated states from which travel requires mandatory hotel quarantine, North America section says this:

North America

  • Canada
  • Costa Rica
  • Panama

Note: the United States of America was removed from this list on Friday, 28 May with immediate effect

Note: Puerto Rico was removed from this list on Saturday, 22 May with immediate effect

Note: Bermuda was removed from this list on Saturday, 15 May with immediate effect
