My misery knows no end. 50/46 - 96.

Once again playing a 6400 yard course which is right at my limit. Through in the heavy woods, ponds and creeks and it’s suk-o-la!

Being retired is fun 🙂

Posted a lot of this in the

topic, but I expand on it here.

Before the round I had a good range session which is usually bad news, but I felt good anyways.  They were doing work on 1, so the course was having everyone start on 7, which was a pretty cool change of pace.  I hit a perfect drive and was sitting 138 from the pin.  I hit a wonderful toe shank 45* off target and a tree saved me from OB. Next shot to the sand and eventually card a +3 (7).  The round got a bit better: bogey, +2, bogey, bogey, then the melt down.

I had hit the fairway on the first 3 (non par 3) holes so I was feeling pretty confident. Hole 12 and me don’t always get along though. I top my 1st drive and it rolls OB. Tee it up again and l top my 2nd drive and it rolls OB also.  I regroup and I think I can possibly top another… I do, but it stayed in bounds.  Now I’m 30 yards closer so I take out my trusty 3w and top another OB.  Now I’m laying 7, 30yards from the box. I finally make good contact and put it about 70 yards from the green. I fly the green on the approach, chip on and 3 putt to stop the bleeding. (13 if you weren’t counting)

I had nowhere to go but up from that point. The next hole, par 5, I go driver, 5w to 10 ft. I missed the eagle but a tap in birdie made me feel much better.  3 doubles, 3 pars and 5 bogeys the rest of the way for a smooth 99, which I’m proud of with a 13 on the card.   New driver and 5w were awesome today, 10/14 fairways was great, but only 6/18 GIR and 5 3-putts were killer.

89 playing at 6300 due to tees in back of tee area. A 4 and a 3 putt on front set the tone. Went to cross hand putting after the front. Out of bounds on a par 5 on back. It was not my day. Chips and pitching wasn’t any good either. But on 18 a one putt par. All in all a good day for golf and a bad day of golf.

I take solace when I have pared the first and 18th, setting the tone to accept the misery in between 🤣😂

Hadn't touched a club for two weeks so came out with a 42 (+6) on the front of my very easy home track and followed up with a back 9 of 35 (-1) for a nice 77. Did most of my damage with a triple on a par 3 on the front😑

I had an almost identical round at a relatively easy course on Sunday. Tripled the third hole, finished the front at 43, then tore up the back with birdies on 15, 17 and 18 for a 77.

89 last time out on our 18 hole course - thats a +7 based on my handicap. Again, struggling to get off the tee - 3 lost balls, and when the ball was in play, not in good positions. Feeling a bit lost on the course now.

Went out this morning before work to play on the shorter easier 9 hole course at the club just to try to practice - shot a 72 (par 64), which again is not a good score given how short the course is (the score card is pictured below with distances in meters). Was trying to keep the ball in play which is why I didn't use the driver on some of the par 4s as the second shot is never more than a wedge. It took 1 hr and 40 mins to walk it this morning.

47/43 - 90 today. Mehhh, too many three putts. One of those days where I felt I played better than the score reflects.

Tied personal best 92 today. Played a new course today and had several times where I hit into trouble I didn’t know was there. Greens were punched on Monday and there was one putt that would have fallen otherwise. Driver was pretty good today.  Had a couple drives that I cut doglegs but hit it too far and was in trouble on the other side. Putter decent, despite the punched greens.  Highlights were sinking a 18’er to save par and rolling a punch out shot up onto the green in 2 and two putting for birdie.

Bought a set of new Srixon ZX5's recently.  Like a dream on the range.  My course mental game is weak I guess.  Not discernable change in top and hitting fat shots 😅.  92..

You will enjoy them once you get used to them.  I would say they aren't the best at anything, but they feel great, are workable, consistent, and have solid forgiveness.

I was told I was -1 for 9. First time playing King City. It's short, but was really fun. I didn't hit any houses but I did get closer than I am comfortable with. 🤣

I didn't have my shoes or cart, but the rental cart worked.

I'm definitely loving them at the range.  My brain just needs to get past the pressure of the course.

I shot a hard fought 75. My lowest round happens to be 74 that I have managed twice but this felt better than either of those.  I'm typically not good for more than one birdie in a round. I shot a 41 on the front with 2 birdies. I rolled one in from off the green on # 9 and followed that up on 10 with the same thing. Missed the green on 11 and pitched up close to save par.

I hit a terrible drive on 12 that was headed out of bounds but hit a tree and popped back into the fairway 200 yards from the flag and ended up with a lucky bogey. The next hole I topped my drive and had 234 to the flag. I smoked a 5 wood with the aid of the wind 8 steps passed the flag but still on the green and made par. On the 14th I hit a 7 iron thin on a 160 yard approach  shot into the wind that skipped over the green and ended up flopping in the pitch shot for birdie. Routine par on 15 & 16 followed up by par that required a pitch shot from off the green on the par 3 17th.

The 18th is a pretty cool par 5 that has shots over a creek and a pond. You have to hit your drive to the left side of the fairway to have a shot at the green and I did. I had 211 yards to the flag after my drive and I hit a good 4 iron onto the green and had a 20 foot putt for Eagle to go 3 under on the back but came up short and settled for a birdie to shoot a 34.

My pitch/chip game was really on today, especially on the back nine. Very rare for me to make 5 birdies in a round. I was proud of myself for hanging in there after shooting 5 over on the front and not giving up.

I played 18 this morning, first full round this year. It's a short course only ~5500 yards, but I'm not a big hitter, par 68 slope 65.2, so relatively easy. I ended up shooting an 81 with 2 penalties on the front 9, which I'm pretty happy with. I lost a sleeve of balls through 6 holes, but cleaned it up and used just 1 ball for the remainder of the round. I played within myself for the most part and my approach game and putter were working well for me. Still only had 22% GIR, but was usually greenside in regulation. I don't know if I would classify my putter as on fire, but it performed very well for me today, 31 putts only 1 3 putt and that was on a GIR. I definitely accomplished my score goal of breaking 85, but didn't get the 33% GIR I was hoping for.

Actually, thinking about it, my putter was on fire a little bit. The pace control was very good, I don't think there were any where I didn't have a chance on the 2nd putt.

First sub 40 for nine this year yesterday. 2 GIR, 3 putted one of them. The 6 one putt pars was key to my 39.

38-42, 80. Conditions were tough the last 6 holes, near 100 degrees (37C) and humid. Flirted with a great round until a triple then bogey sequence on 15, 16 made it tough. But honestly, great round for me and creeping closer to the single-digit handicap goal.

Last round was 41-47 for 88.

It's my first sub-90 round since my return so that in itself really is the only thing that should matter.

I had nice up-and downs: one sand save, which is extremely rare for me, and one on a par 5 on which my second shot found the water. I was also able to tame my driver....for the most part. The back nine is harder so I really have to focus on playing smarter, especially in the wind, which wasn't much of an issue going out but started being one coming in because of the better-protected greens.
