I almost drove the green twice on 3 at McKay Creek. It's 270 yards and last year I would have been 100 yards shorter and 30 yards left. 🤣

My driver has come a long way. Still have the occasional slice, or now pull hook right, but 2 out of three drives are in the fairway.

Played a new course and I lost 7-8 balls.  Ended up with a 101.  First time I was triple digits in a while.  On the upside, i finally got my brother to play.  He did terrible, but we had fun.

Played the home course today and just knew it was gonna be slow going.  I was a single, had a new to me set of JDM Miura CB 2007 irons replacing the Srixon ZX7/Z forged irons and the first three holes were zippy, then I hit the fivesome finishing the third, an easily drivable 255 yard par 4.  Fourth hole (par 3, 165 yards) was stand around, watch them play Cantlay golf and finally meander off to the 5th.  Knowing they were there, it was turned into a practice round real quick.  Two tee balls hit, played both and they were still not off 5 tee. 🙄 There was no one in sight behind me, so I really putzed around.

I left the green and turned right to the sixth hole that was totally empty instead of slogging behind them.  Walked out to the middle of the fairway from the 4th green where my drive usually ends up and dropped two balls.  (they still hadn't finishing tee off at 6 when I finished 7) The rest of the day was spent trying new stuff and working on short game. 3.5 hours for 17 holes.  The new Stealth 2+ x flex 2H impressed on the first game strike.  215 yards straight at the pin.  Ended up 8 feet from hole. Keeper!

The irons are a work in process.  It took a couple holes to work out the way to strike them.  They were a touch shorter and less forgiving than my signature set, but they flew nice, felt good and will get some play this summer.

The rest of the week is garbage weather, real cold and rainy sadly.

Played a sunrise 9, 8-over 44 with a double, quad, and birdie. It was what I think is the hardest nine of the two local courses. Because I'm a golf degenerate, I played a twilight 9 with my wife as caddie. Shot even par 36 for my personal best ever 9 holes. I think it's the easiest nine of the two courses, but I'm pretty stoked about it. Included a full 360 round the cup from 12 feet on the last to save par and close it out. Golf is fun.

Frost delay this morning.  Teed off about 9am at 38* with full sun, first out walking.  Haven’t played like this in a long darn time. 75 with lots of fairways and greens hit.  Putter was lukewarm from outside 10’.

Had an audience on the third tee.  Crew was finishing up the course’s new fence installation.  They stopped work while I teed off. Ball went straight at the flag on the relatively short par 4. Saw the bounce and knew I was on the back of the green at best.  Got a nice round of applause. “Nice shot!!”  Yup, on the back fringe.  🙂

I tied my low score (88). I didn’t lose a ball which is big for me. I did miss four putts within 4 feet. Two would’ve been for par and two for bogey.

  • 2 weeks later...

Course opened up a few weeks ago, but greens are not very good - still waiting for the grass to grow back properly.

Played on our short 9 hole easy course - rating/slope is 62.5/104 par 32 - and shot 33 with 3 UW as the longest club, and 32 playing only with my 4 iron as the longest club in the bag. Very pleased with myself as I had some very nice recovery up and downs.

Still haven't played an 18 hole round yet this season.

39 on a 9-hole par 34.  The course is short and rated 30.6/96 so my differential wasn't very good, but +5 thru 9 is good for me.

First round in a very long time today! Still knocking off the rust, it was a hilarious mix of horrible and amazing shots. Highlights included:

- Shanking an 8 iron, using a hybrid to punch out from the trees, hitting the pin and dropping to 2 feet for a tap-in par

- Blading a 10-foot chip across the green, chunking it back on, then draining a 30-foot putt to save bogey

- Topping my final drive, then sticking my 5-wood to 10 feet from 220 into a headwind, and lipping out the birdie putt

Overall, all things considered it wasn’t the worst round ever. I hit driver pretty well until the last hole, putted better than usual, and just absolutely killed the ball with my new 5-wood. Keeper for sure!

I, my wife, and her pastor (we're an interfaith couple; more on that some other day) played a fun little morning nine of best ball.

No idea what we actually wound up with on the scorecard, but we all hit some good shots along the way. I'd say my driving was around a B- today, irons a B, and putting flirted with an A.

More importantly, it was just wonderful to get away for a couple hours and play with my two favorite playing partners. 😎

I played Mt Hood Resort today for the first time. Got paired with a nice couple who stopped at the turn. I see nobody on 10, so I hit a glorious drive down the middle. I hit the green with my second shot when two guys come out of the woods. He says "you could have asked to play through". I said "I would have id I had seen anybody." 😛

Carts were supposed to stay on the path. Weather was glorious.

First time posting in this thread - glad I found it!

Shot an 86 at a local muni - pretty pleased with my off the tee performance (14 FIR), including a PB for long drive.  Granted, the hole is somewhat downhill and I'm pretty sure I hit a mound on the backside that gave me a favorable kick 😄

Took off a bit early from work and had two friends that were maybes.  The maybes turned into Nos, so I headed to the 1st tee solo.  Has another solo roll up and ask to play together.  I said sure and we were off.  Great drive, crappy 2nd, on in 3 and 3 putt for double.  Not a great start.  Double the par 3 2nd with 3 putts (sense a trend here?), but then I par 4.  I implode with a quad on 5 with a couple of terrible shots.

The guy playing with me had said he was only playing 4, but decided to play one more.  I'm glad he did, because I birdied it (and its always nice to have someone see it).

Rest of the front I go +1, +2, +1, +1.  I had a real slow twosome in front of me for those 4 holes and my rhythm was not there and had no one to converse with during the wait.

At the turn they let me through, which was nice, but I rushed through 10 for another double, then a bogey on 11.  I tried to slow down on 12 and took my time and set up for my drive to fade (slice) as it likes to do but hit it straight.  Hits a tree, but I still have a decent shot as long as I keep it low.

The next shot is the kind of shot that doesn't happen too often for people like me.  I hit a low runner (because trees) with a little draw and it runs all the way up to the edge of the green.  I'm pretty pumped at this point, drive to the green and walk up with my wedge and putter.  I didn't need my putter.  Chipped in for eagle, only my 2nd ever.  It was really cool until I realized, no one saw it but me...  Weird feeling for sure.

Finished the round +2, +4, +1, +1, +1, +1 for a 95.  It was a what if round for sure with 6 three putts and 2 lost balls and one water ball.  Oh well, ill get 'em next time.

Played yesterday and went 52-42, basically forgot how to make clean contact for a 6-hole stretch in the middle there. Two triple bogeys and a quad, where I went into water twice on the same hole. Can’t believe I was able to salvage a decent back 9. Started going 5W off the tee, hitting fairway makes the rest of the game a lot easier!

Have to share this truly remarkable round. I felt like I was pretty dialed in except for maybe four holes or so. Greens were really slick, but expected. I’m a bogey golfer so I was happy with my result, but….

48/43 with 46 putts.

I didn’t know it was possible to putt more than swing, but there you have it.

Unseasonably hot here - 29C/84F for this time of year. Course is bone dry and playing with roll that I've never experienced before on my home course. Greens are a bit sketchy this time of year, but with the extra length on hand, and last time playing hit my driver really well, had high expectations for the round. Well....couldn't get off the tee to save my life with almost every single shot going straight right - no hook, no curve, just long and right. Positives - scrambled decently, no 3 putts, and with 3 OB off the tee, and 1 unlucky lost ball in short rough (ran out of 3 min searching time), still managed an 88 which is a net +7 based on my course hcp. Just happy my tee shot miss was a consistent pattern, and not a two way miss.

41.

On a par 3 course. Now generally iron play is the worst part of my game, but I generally got off the tee okay. I had absolutely no touch on or around the green. I had problems with speed control, chipping was bad, just off on a lot of things.

I do have some excuses though. First, it was a new course for me. Second, the greens were almost all tiny, which I think lead to some mental yips; of course, I did miss the one large green. Third, my body-particularly my arms never really felt right. I was constantly trying to stretch them, but never felt stretched out or fully warmed up.

Honestly though, I just played like 💩.
