What'd You Shoot Today?

I've been in a little slump since about June. I started the year with 82/83 back to back and was at 12, high hopes for single digits.

I took my net down because we put in 30+ sections of new fence. Finally put it back up and did my old drills all week.

We were in 3rd place for our league and needed a win to secure a $$ spot, last round of the season.

I got the irons and wedges hot. Shot my best 9 ever, even par 36. 9th hole I had a 75yd wedge bare lie under a tree. Hit it under braches, over bunker and hit the brakes 3" from going in on the front pin.

Thankfully it's my 3rd yr. in league so no backlash over 27 stableford points for 9. 🤣

I have accumulated entirely too many golf balls due to a rabbit hole, so I figured a trip to Veronica was in order. Boy it it deliver. Playing 3 balls, lost 3 off the tee on 1, 1 of the tee on 2, 1 on 3, 2 off the tee on 4, 1 on 5, 1 on 6. Finally find my groove, hit the green on 7 for par, got and birdie on 8, hit the green on 9 and was an easy par. 9 balls in 9 holes, mission accomplished. 🤣

I'm having the same issue. It's getting to the point where I might go to a range and use up a bunch of my found balls lol (I'd pay of course.)

I played 18 today at my home course, and shot 85. I've been trying to use up some of my found balls, but even when I lose some, the temptation to pocket some more found balls in good shape is strong.

83 (+12). 44-39.
On a family trip in Portugal and played Oitavos Dunes in Cascais. Kind of had a Bandon in SoCal vibe. Wind picked up on the back, but was manageable. Had a rental set of TM Stealth’s which I hope to never play again. Playing a course that measures in meters without a rangefinder and pretty much no sprinkler heads made for quite the mental exercise.

Seriously one of my favorite shots. The first hole at Killarney is a dog keg left. If you don't hug the corner, you end up behind these. 95 yards out, put it pin high 8 feet right. Such a fun shot

What a pathetic way to finish an otherwise great round. I had multiple “rub of the green” moments on 18 but I  still surprised myself with a great lag putt from 50’-60’ to have a tap in triple.

After a PB last week (75) it was followed by two rounds of 86 this weekend. Have lost all semblance of a short game currently 😅. Anything 100yds and in is a crapshoot - almost like the yips. I know it’s in my head as this was my comfort zone at the start of the season. Driving which was sketchy at the start is now my strong point. Absolutely baffles the mind 😂

09/01/24 69 (-3) High Meadow Ranch GC in Magnolia, TX. 13 holes with no rain, 4 holes of mess. -4 going up 18, missed 6' for bogey free 68. Haven't even taken my clubs out of the car yet I'm still a little flustered. Haven't had a bogey free round since March.

I played the back 9 this morning. Me and another single as the last back 9 group, behind a foursome. We both played two balls.

I had

+2 on my first ball, with 3 bogeys and 1 birdie

+3 on my 2nd ball, with 3 bogeys

Disclaimer: This is on what I think is an absurdly easy course.

Google says 120 is average slope, the courses where I used to live were 125 - 130. The Munis in LA are like 114 or lower. I've never broken 80 except on this course where I shot 77 on my first round after a 2 year break.

But the course is also absurdly walkable and back 9'ers are forced to walk so everyone is walking. Its very nice

Out to our local nine hole goat track for testing with the newly installed AD-Pro iron shafts. I think these are going to be perfect for the new old me. Good feedback on strikes and distances were comparable to the $-Tapers they replaced with a slight decrease in swing speed. The Spider GT-x was hot too!

Their course yardages are just slightly optimistic. 🙄 Driver on the “350” yard first hole result pictured below. I didn’t hit a 310 yard drive, more like 260 according to Arccos, but only had 55 yards to pin.

Not sure what happened to me this week ... after struggling for a month and seeing my HCP go up to 5.0, I've went 64-64-66 my last 3 rounds. The hot run will end, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Played a round this morning and my driver swing just completely left my body. I hit ONE fairway the entire round, and it was a lucky shot that bounced off a tree on the way there. The highlight of the round was somehow making birdie on that hole; hit my 5 iron to 10 feet and made the putt.

Just totally awful, felt completely lost off the tee. I clubbed down a few times and even then, leaked just off the fairway or caught the fairway bunkers.

47/44 for a brutal 91, it felt like I was shooting 121.

I hit an ok drive on 2, right side of the fairway and my watch says I'm 231 out and there is a foursome on the green we are waiting on. Rex who I was paired with says "do you really think you can get there?" I said "No, I might get 220 at best if I catch it clean." Well, I did. 🤣

Front edge by 8' with about 20' to the hole for eagle. I missed it by 8".

What is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?

Yeah.

Today was notable because twice my playing partners were halfway through saying “good putt” when the ball was dead center 6 inches out before both times the putt viciously lipped out.

There is a Jack Nicklaus quote that I can never find but I swear it’s from him and he says, about certain putts: “I made it it just didn’t go in.”

Last Saturday.  Finally focused for a whole round.  Havent done that since 2020.  Subsequently went 68.  7 birdies. 3 bogeys. And they were all 3 on par 3s . One short putt missed. One impossible plugged bunker shot and one misclub long over the back into  a crazy front pin.  Just missed the 4 footer for part so 7 feet of putts away from a 66.  this wasn’t a crazy fluke lucky round with chip ins or bomb putts or tap ins , either. This was a very solid point A To B round while taking care of business on the greens.  ( save those two short misses ).

Like I said. It has been a while since I had the real ability  to have physical stamina plus the focus to play.    And the funny part is. Nothing changed  to do that , I just had a slow Friday and got  some rest.  Between course crossings post C word and it taking many more hours to earn a living post C word. Golf has been back seat for a while.

ironically or coincidentally- my son got his license 4 days before this round.  I hope that’s a good omen for days to come.  More free time , and better play.

A 38 with my 10-year old son in tow today. Had a blast. He’s still learning the game but enjoying it greatly.  Got paired up today and he learned some etiquette on the greens.

Finished with a birdie on a tough par-5. Hit a fantastic hybrid onto the green and hit a great putt from ~50 ft to about 3 feet.

My sons best shot was when he hit the green from his tee shot (we’ve been having him tee up at the 150 marker) - he three putted from like 70 feet - left it one inch short on his birdie effort.

Walked Wildwood and forgot what a horrible idea that is. Minus the pain, still managed a +1 and almost drove the green on 9 thanks to a generous cart path bouncy. 🤣

Play a new (to me) course last Thursday and shot 88.  1st time ever I broke 90 on the 1st time playing a new course.  I left about 5-6 shot on the course due to my lousy chipping.

Congrats!

Sometimes playing a course for the first time will work in our favor since there's no mental scars from past forays.

I'm always psyched-up playing new courses.
