Shot a 93 (+21) playing the white tees at the Golf Club at Middle Bay a week ago.

Middle Bay is a challenging and fun course with at least 9 holes with water in play coupled with more than a few green complexes as well as the wind blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean.

It used to be a private course that became public 4 years ago probably due to the significant damage brought by flooding from Hurricane Sandy.

For a 18 cap, I knew that I could have done a little bit better but I was still happy w/ that score given that I scored 105 the only other time I played this course more than 4 years ago.

Weather here in the Northeast including Long Island has been on the wet side since April with rain every week so I was lucky to have played on a day without rain.

Anyway, I think that this is easily one of the most enjoyable non-tournament rounds I've played this season despite the mediocre score and losing at least 3 balls to water hazards because I was able to Birdie two of the four Par 5s courtesy of flushed second shots executing driver-of-the-deck with my Callaway Paradym AI-Smoke.

I was able to hit my second shots solidly (traveling at least 240 yards) and accurately to leave the ball in good spots for my thid shots.

I had a nifty chip with my running wedge from the greenside rough about 20 feet away that was pin high that allowed me to tap-in for a relatively easy 3 foot Birdie on hole # 5 while the other Birdie on hole # 13 was a bit more difficult as I had to lag a 90 foot eagle putt that swung at least 10 feet left to right.

Fortunately, my speed was good enough for the ball to finish pin high, 7.5 feet left of the hole. I was also fortunate that my playing partner's ball was close enough to my line to show me that there was no break and so I was able to drain my putt with my ball rolling in the middle of the hole

However, I was also a bit piss*d that I lost my Vice Air Pro Shade (Yellow-Orange color) ball to a water hazard after realizing that it was the same ball I used to clinch my last tournament win at Eisenhower Park - Red course not more than a week ago.

I'll definitely be playing more rounds soon at this track including a tournament coming up next month.

A rather uneventful 4 over 38 yesterday. One of those rounds where things were both not working yet working at the same time. I only hit 2/6 fw, and 3/9 gir. However, the misses were pretty much minimal, oftentimes being on the fringe in reg, and if not, I was able to knock it close enough to give myself a chance. The putter was the most cooperative, averaging 1.7 putts.

It's funny, because I was talking to one of my playing partners about what I would consider a good round, roughly splitting bogey and pars maybe 1 double. It wasn't until I was on the 9th green that I realized that I was having one of those rounds.

95 and 84

My handicap app was asking me if my 95 was legit lol.

Yes, it was. I don't need a freakin app to rub it in my face 😆

This is coming after a week where I shot par or better twice for the first time ever.

The 84 felt nice after a 95 and is typically within my range.

What is golf

  • 2 weeks later...

Thought I was in for a long day after the front 9, really happy with how I played on the back. Feel like my game is in a good place right now, can't wait to get back out and hopefully finally break 80.

Have been on fire lately, cap dropped from an 8.5 in early May to a 6.9 currently.

Went out yesterday morning and ran into my normal golf partner. I was warming up and he was on 8 so I ended up playing the back 9 with him and was going to play the front alone after. Lost a sleeve of balls in my first 4 holes and ended up shooting a 47 on the back. I dropped him off at his truck and decided to keep going and just work on tempo. I piped my drive on #1 and thought things were turning around. Chunked my 2nd shot, picked my ball up and headed to the house 🤣. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.

Golf is hard.

91 at Grapevine GC, Bluebonnet/Pecan Rotation.  Two absolute stinker holes ruined what should have been a mid to high 80s round.  There's a tough, uphill Par 5 on Bluebonnet that bottles up around 250, right where I normally land my driver.  I usually hit driver and wonder when I'm always punching outta the chit.  So I say, I'll take two iron!  Hit a burner with my tee shot that clips a branch and goes in the pond, then slice my 2nd one to the hazard right.  End up with a 9.  Eff me.

87 at Tenison Highlands in Dallas.  I've lived in Dallas for 30 years, been playing golf for 8, and had never made it out to Tenison.  Highly recommend it for any DFW folks that haven't.  It's like going in a time machine in the best way possible.

Shot 80 (+10), my ALL-TIME BEST round at an amateur golf league tourney held at Forest Park GC yesterday without any range warmups except for putting practice.

Screenshot_20250720_214027_Chrome.jpg.0c902aaf4150858a645a5871baa64c6a.jpg

While I was happy to play really well, the round still left me with a bad after taste knowing that I lost by two strokes in my division and narrowly missed breaking 80 by one stroke that was probably a consequence of a missed 9-foot Birdie (after mishitting a 26-foot Eagle putt) left that led to a disappointing 3-putt Par at the 18th.

I was so tired the day before the tourney that I decided not to do any range warmups due to a major calamity at home with basement flooding, water heater replacement and clean-up the day before the tourney.

Helping the handyman carry the 165 lb. water heater down the basement stairs

was no joke and got a little dicey as well.

I didn't have any high expectations, but it turned out to be my best round ever, so go figure, this game will drive u crazy!

Played the seniors and was getting 2 strokes only . Short but has a few tricky holes. Figuring I’d probably break 80 barely and raise my 8.6 hcin which in my thinking was too low instead shot a 73 . Two back to back double bogeys on the front I was thinking maybe my round was over. Came back the next two holes with birdies , and ended the front nine with a 38, using up the two. Back nine start was a bogey after a sandwich at the turn. Now I’m figuring it’s over. String of pars with two saves then back to back birdies and saved a par on the 18th and shot a 35. So I actually lowered my hcin to 8.1. Now am I bragging? yes and no. It was the round of my life at 66 but I will not be able to sustain my handicap.

35-42=77. Front 9 was my lowest 9 holes in about 25 years and was still going great through 13, but three 6s in the last 5 holes put a dampener on it. Got a bit unlucky over the last few holes with a putt hitting an old pitch mark just before hole and a chip not releasing, but some really dumb shots as well resulting in two penalties on par 5s. Still, my lowest round in a long time so all in all happy with it. I've been doing a lot of work on my putting lately and that was very solid so it seems to be paying off.

3 over 39 on the front 9 of my home course. I have never broken 40 on the front, and usually finish 42-44. I've broken 40 on the back many times, and I've never broken 80. Unfortunately I only had time for 9, but I think its coming really soon!
