Isn’t it funny how we can arrive at the same number, but in different ways?

Same score as you  yesterday, but hit it terrible. One!, yes one, fairway hit (and that one bounced back in after hitting a tree). Five three putts, two lateral punch outs.
But outside of the two punch outs it seems like the poor drives usually left some kind of play. Ended up hitting 12 greens, converted three of those to birdies and chipped in once for another bird.

Happy to pocket some cash, but certainly didn’t leave happy with my play.

103.  I was on the green in 2 on a par 5, but I three putted for a par. I played decent overall with the exception of a couple holes (A 9, 8 and three 7s😡)

I hate those rounds.  This week was a compilation of the two.

Thursday, weather was great and so was my driver.  I was hitting it straighter and further than I have in decades.  Iron game was on point, but my short game was straight up garbage.  Should have just left the putter at home and used my hybrid.

Carded a weak 83, but felt great about my long game.

Today....  Driver was back to normal.  Irons were decent at best.  Short game was off the planet good and my putter was dropping them from everywhere.  Shot a 76 despite my drives being 40-50 yards shorter and less accurate.

This game will drive you crazy sometimes.

Started with a 41 then the wheels came off somewhat and shot a 47. Front nine 3 putt on one hole and a 4 foot birdie miss . The back nine ? Lot of missed opportunities.

Shot my best ever score of 74 (+3). Was -1 on the front and didn't get back to even until a bogey on #14. Unfortunately finished Bogey, Par, Bogey, Bogey, Bogey. Still, I'm pumped as it was super windy today and by far my best putting day ever. I average 33.1 putts/round and had 24 today with no chip-ins.

The putter is the key to it all and I can't be swayed from that opinion.  I shot my career low of 63, in competition in the 1980's.  It was rainy and windy.  Ball would barely roll 10 yards off the drive.  But my putter was king of the hill that day.  No matter where I ended up on the green, it had a chance to fall.

I've had many better days with the sticks since then, but have never matched that day putting.  Any time you threaten 20 it's a day to remember.

Shot a somewhat uninspired 77 yesterday but not a horrible score given temps were 40*F/4*C and the ground was totally wet

The fun part though was that it was the second round now since I got my childhood dream putter back in the bag (Studio Style Newport) and I had the lowest number of putts I've ever had in a round at 23 or 24 (can't remember what happened on 6).

Unfortunately if you do the math, shooting a 77 with 23 putts tells a story I don't want to hear about my approach shots, but still some positives on the day

Have played two of my best ever rounds these last few days. On Sunday I played in the championship round for my social golf group. Season top 4 were put together as the last group. What points we were all on hasn't been known to us for the last 3 rounds, but I was guessing I was sitting second with two wins, and two second places for the season. I shot a 43 and a 47. Nothing spectacular, but it was in tough hot, windy conditions and it was enough to get me the win, and blow the final group out the water. Its something I've never done and has given me huge confidence. I've never been able to take a pressure situation like this and dominate. Always thought of myself as a bit of a choker in past sporting experiences. My main contender for the championship came 5th overall on the day, so I've got a good chance of taking out the season trophy when its announced on the weekend. Not guaranteed though by any stretch.

Then last night I played 14 holes. The first 9 was the best 9 I've ever played. I was level par on the 6th tee, then finished with a 39. First time breaking 40 over 9. Then playing 5 holes before dark on the other 9 I hit a birdie and two pars. Next level for me. Something has clicked over the last couple of months I feel.

Got in probably the last round of the year, shot 43/45 for a pretty unspectacular 88. 56 degrees with solid overcast grey foggy drizzle , constant wind and wet everywhere having rain the last three days. To make it even worse the greens were rolling about 6!! I mean a 10 foot putt needed to be rolled like the length of a 20 footer and a 40 footer you needed to chip to get within 5 feet. With the greens not being cut or rolled in over a week or better putting was the challenge. Even close chipping needed extra effort.

oh well, at least we got out.

Hadn't played a round in 3 weeks and had only been to the range for a practice session a couple times since (holiday busy times and all) ... and started yesterday morning with a stellar double, single, double. Started to find my groove and other than a bad break out of a bunker on 7 (shortsided and downhill lie ... laid my 60° wide open to try to just pop it straight up; which didn't work out thanks to there only being maybe an inch of sand under the ball. Wedge bottomed out and I drop kicked it across the green. Saved bogey though!) carded a delightful 42 on the front with the help of nearly holing out a bump and run for eagle on 8 that left me with a tap in birdie.

Then went on a scoring spree (for me!) on the back. Saved par from jail on 10, rolled in a 35 footer for birdie on 11 and proceeded to hit the next 6 greens till 18; making 2 more birdies (and a three putt after putting the worst stroke ever on a 5 footer comeback) for a cool 34.

Though most stoked on how 18 went. Left my drive out to the right and wound up down in a gulley. Had a super narrow window for a shot to the green; tree limb maybe 10 feet in front of me then more shorter trees about 20ish yards in front. About 120 yards out, well below the elevated green and a big bunker to the right. Pin cut in the middle.

My first thought since I was playing so well was to just chip it out in the fairway and try to get up and down. But my short iron and wedge play had really turned on about as well as I'm capable of - just doing a great job of controlling trajectory and distance into these REALLY firm greens. So I decided to just choke down a 9 iron and try to spin it up under the limbs in front then over the limbs in front of that and try to catch the left side of the green.

TOTALLY PULLED IT OFF all Tiger hero shot style. Carried the left edge of the right hand bunker and landed about 5 feet on the green. Spun off a little bit but it was one of those "whoa, I actually did it!" shots haha.

The aprons were really fuzzy so not really puttable. Chipped a little PW up to about 6 feet and made the putt for an epic par save.

Not the prettiest 76 thanks to playing like an a****** on the first three holes but I'll take it.

37 on the front, 46 on the back for an 83 lol. I’ve broken 80 several times so I didn’t choke at all. In fact, I played basically the same on the back as I played on the front. But I was getting some breaks on the front and made several clutch putts. 3 jacked 3x on the back (missed three 3 footers that all barely lipped out).  Had 2 penalty strokes on just some unlucky situations. And there you go…9 strokes worse.

Played a "Sixer" tournament yesterday (6 scramble, 6 alt shot, 6 best ball).  We finished with a +6 78.  The flights were split after all scores were turned in and we ended up 2nd in the 3rd flight.  Pretty much all luck with with the flights being split afterwards, but I cant complain about $125.

I played yesterday at Indian Creek Lakes course in the DFW area and shot a 79.  Definitely could have been better, but it's usually a course I struggle with.  I shot a 38 on the front with 1 3-putt bogey on a par 3, and a 41 on the back with 2 dumb 3-putts.  I played the same course last weekend, and went 45-36...golf is a strange game.

I shot a fun but mildly disappointing 79 on Saturday.

Warm temps but windy and gusty af - the remnants of the storms that hit the middle of the country. I have gotten to to point where I don't mind playing in the wind.

I was super solid tee to green - although my stats don't necessarily show it. The wind made a lot of great shots end up just off the fairway or just in the fringe, or whatever. But 10 GIR and 7/13 Fairways.

I hit a great 2h (Titleist 913h 19* A2 Setting, Stock Diamana S+ Blue 82 S) on the long dogleg right par 4 4th from 225 into a semi-stiff breeze. Got it right to the fringe on the front apron with a forward pin position and laid an open faced sand wedge (Homer Simpson) to three feet to save par.

The hole does does play downhill, but I was pretty surprised by that shot. I'm getting really nice trajectory out of that club right now.

I've been hitting some great shots with it lately. I've always been a strong long iron player, and I've come to love both my 2 and 4 hybrids.

I used the Titleist to hit a great 210yd tee shot into a stiff right to left, slightly hurting cross wind on the short par 4 #11th and a great second shot on the long dogleg par 5 12th over an environmental area to 120. Walked away with par in both cases. Would have hoped for better on #11, but...

My putting was no bueno. I shall blame the greens.

They were super shaggy, cups were ragged, haven't been moved in a week or more. I think it's because they still have aeration holes - since October (if memory serves). I'm not sure what happened there but doesn't seem quite right. I can only theorize that they are letting them grow in the hopes they will close up, but it might not happen until spring at this point. I need to play somewhere else next time.

I  did have a lot of birdie opportunities, which is always cool. Shame I converted absolutely none of them. I did save a great par on 18 to keep it under 80 and walked away happy.

Can't wait to get out again soon. I've got my eye on Thursday.

Best ever round today. Been saying that a lot lately, but I've never experienced this rate of consistent improvement in scores that I have the last couple of months.

Shot a PB stableford score of 39 (gross 88) at my home course (137/73). I was 22 points after the front 9. Wiped hole 11 which was disappointing after an awesome drive, but leaked by approach right and lost my ball. Dunked my tee shot on a long par 3 into the water but scrambled for a point by holing a 35 foot putt lol. Parred a long par 5 after having to take a penalty unplayable when my tee shot ended up wedged against a tree.

Driver, wedges have been great. Feel so much more comfortable with the driver especially. Learning to be comfortable opening the face for my pitch shots has also been huge.

Loving golf at the moment.

Made some changes to my grip after starting to read the Ben Hogan book for the first time (was always a Tiger and Jack book guy).

On the back 9 yesterday I had 3 birdies and an eagle, and today shot -1 on the front nine, first time ever going under par twice in a row playing golf.

Turning point in my game or blind luck that will be thrown back in my face next time I go out? I wish I knew the answer

Shot my lowest score in a few years today and tied a personal best with an 80. Struggled putting on the front 9 but was able to have nothing but pars and bogeys. Back 9 everything seemed to work for me and I shot a personal best +2, 38, over 9. 2 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double with 14 putts. Hoping I can keep this up and get some consistency.
