Shot 45 on the back 9 of my home course. That included 2 Quadruple bogies so it was a weird round.

Shot 78 at a tough course locally yesterday. I three putted four times and skulled two chips. A case of what might have been….

Shot an 88, but three putted five times. I feel some days I can putt and others I have no confidence.

Shot a 82 on a course where I was getting 7 strokes. Not a good shooting but had a few good holes.

79 in my last round at my club.  Made 0 birdies when I had 8-9 decent looks.  Could have been better but under 80 is always good for me.

I shot a 79 today, but doesn’t feel like a win with a four putt and five penalty strokes. Sucks knowing it’s all there but is doesn’t come together.

Tied my personal best of 84 on a course I've never played before. Looking back I could have broken 80 but you know coulda, woulda, shoulda it's golf. Lots of things I was happy with and a few things that made me frustrated that I should work on this off season. Honestly just glad I've finally started to play better, been a frustrating year.

Played Sunday from 6,500, 72.6, 132.  Lot of course for me coming off of two days of driving rain.  Breezy and cool, and the course was so wet I was backing up my driver.

 

Shot 95, and should have been so much better.  Came home with back-to-back 8s to give back 7 strokes in two holes.  Ouch.

 

Obviously I got tired, exacerbated by cart path only, but no excuse for closing like a chump!

 

Time to really get to work on the fitness level.

Bit of a novel here, but there's only so many golf sickos like me who might appreciate the read or take something out of it.

 

I started playing golf again a year ago. This is after a ~12 year hiatus (Editor's note: the years after I couldn't get out regularly because of a real job and not having the charmed life of a college kid paying student rates to play when I didn't have, or chose not to have, classes.) I played maybe a round or two a year before my clubs were stolen in 2015. Shoot, those clubs probably got more use from some guy lucking upon them on Craigslist than they did the dark years spent in the trunk of my car.

 

Now, my grandfather who taught me the game passed away last year. Just before he died I ordered a new set and decided to recommit to the game we both love. I figured I'd be able to tell him all about my reignited passion, the amazing and unique courses in a part of the country he had never visited and, of course, talk about the game that brought us together.

 

Unfortunately, my clubs didn't make it in time to even tell him about them or how much golf clubs cost these days, but it didn't sway me from diving in with both feet.

 

I started playing a ton, practicing like mad, and getting lessons. 10 or so months of nerding out about equipment, my swing, going to destination courses, playing any muni that had a spot for a single in the morning or late afternoon allowed me to hover in the mid to high 80s, with plenty of 90s thrown down in there, in under a year.

 

But I started to get burnt out. I had plateaued. Since September I've played sparingly, probably one round a week the last few weeks. But damn if I don't think the pause has helped me simplify my play, take the good with the bad and just enjoy every single round I get the opportunity to play this special game.

 

On Monday I finally carded an 80 (with a bogey at the last) at a course I hadn't played before. I can't quite wipe the grin off my face yet. Sure, I didn't break 80, yeah, I didn't even beat my personal best, but I'm getting better at something I love all over again.

 

I know the dips are coming, that's golf and that's life, but without them I couldn't enjoy a moment like this. I hope that 79 is around the corner and I hope whatever your personal "79" is coming around the corner for you.

All at different courses and I’ll be darned if if I can make up just two or three strokes to get in the 70’s. Playing tomorrow so I’ll try again 🙂

46 on the front, including a triple and two doubles, two birdy puts. 

 

Then on the back my limbs and brain parted company. 55, with two lost balls (2 shots each) and an unplayable. 

 

39 putts, usually that's around 33-34.

Not today, but the other. 84, which where I have been stuck for a while. 81-84 seems to be my home. Probably because I do not get enough time to play, but I do feel like the the next step to the 70's is just around the corner and if not, that's ok. I have a few bad holes, birdie a couple, and have fun which is really what it is all about for me.

Played yesterday, 16 pars/1 birdie/1 bogey for 72, couldn’t buy a putt and wasted the par 5s where I was around the green and 2 on each one. Ball striking has taken a step forward but putting is showing signs of neglect.

Played today for the first time in a month and a half. At the range yesterday, I couldn’t do anything wrong.  Everything was going straight. So I knew today was gonna be bad…

 

It started off good, I got a slightly scuffed pro v in the range bucket and I hit the ball decent in warmups. 1st tee, I slice to the edge of the range, punch out, duff the next shot, etc. until I card an 8.  I get up and down for par on hole 2, bogey 3 and double 4 with a bad 3 putt. I get to 5, the first par 3.  I usually do well (for me) on par 3s. It was 140 so I pull people which is usually about 135.  I proceeded to hit it fat and carry it ~50 yards into water. Ended up with a 6.   Finished the front with a 49.

 

On the back I played better to the green but I 3-putted 5 times, to really raise the score, but I will say I was consistent, as I carded a 49 on the back for a smooth 98. 
 

The real rust from not playing showed up from 100-30yrds and on the green.  I need to play more, stupid work and me needing money getting in the way.

Played a new course this weekend and shot a 88. El Paso golf courses have areas that are hard pan and I need to adjust my yardage correctly. Will be nice to move to someplace with grass again.
