86 (+15).

Ended up notching my 6th win to keep my 4 year win streak alive.

20240524_014222.jpg.c9bf070bf10a3b91be381a35d0345112.jpg

This tourney was part of my golf league's tour stop at Muttontown Club.

I won by two strokes after draining a 15 foot right to left putt that went in for Bogey on the left front corner of the hole.

Took my time reading the putt, looking from both sides (front and back).

My normal routine is only reading it from the front but I knew what was at stake with this putt so I made the right decision and looked at it from the backside.

I initially thought it was left to right

from the front but saw that it was actually right to left looking from the backside of the hole as I was able to visually see the gradual slope.

This hard-earned, most improbable and best Bogey ever was a great relief for me as I thoroughly messed up my first shot on this last hole (Shotgun start,  hole # 7, Par 3 with a water hazard in front), badly shanking it to the right into the tree line.

Thankfully, the ball was in a decent condition although it was in a bare spot and there was a 10 yard (width) by 10 yard (height) window to hit my second shot, a low 9-iron chip and run to a 10 yard spot on the green fringe between the water hazard on the left and bunker on the right.

I was able to hit that spot but the ball rolled over the green into the thick rough.

My third shot, a 9 iron chip and run back to the hole was 15 feet short.

Draining the 15 foot putt for Bogey, I was able to avert disaster and redeem myself from a brutal loss that I endured at the start of the season (September 16, 2023) where I three-putted the 18th for  a quadruple bogey 9 (Eisenhower Park - White) to lose by one stroke after leading by 4 with one hole left.

Golf is really a great and unique game offering both heartbreaking losses and triumph as well as redemption if you continue to endure and stay the course.

Played on Thursday and tied my low score 88.  Was planning on playing today, but the weather had other plans.

Played yesterday and shot a 93 from the back tees for a change of pace.  I usually play the combo tees but I was feeling good (stupid).  I was 4 over through 7 with 2 missed birdie putts.  The scorecard exploded with a +4 on 8 with two balls in the water.  +2, +2, +2 next three holes made my possible low score round vanish.  I was able to reset and play +3, with a birdie, on 12-17.  On 18, I hit the drive of the year, 300+.  I wasted it by putting the second shot in the creek in front of the green and end up with a +4.

Decided to play the front tees over the weekend in my quick 9-hole round. Takes a lot of pressure off, and I played really well (except for putting). Finished 3 over with 3 bad 3-putts.

38 through 9 for my lowest round ever, by far, and I felt I left a couple on the table with a chip in par that was in then out, and a putt that started a forest fire rolling over the right edge of the hole on 7.

Everything was working today. I even hit my first 300+ yd drive (334yds to the left fairway, 75 to the pin, but my 54 degree went very long right, pitched it to within 3 ft for a semi knee knocker, and put it in with pace and confidence for an up and down par save, making sure the drive wasn’t for naught, but the pitch was the best shot of the day).

I love this game!

Played yesterday and it was a compilation of several threads here.  I decided to play spur of the moment so I went out solo (Playing Alone).  Was right behind a twosome who was playing extremely slow.  I bogeyed 1 and pulled up to 2 and didn't see anyone so i assumed they kicked it into gear.  I teed off and piped a drive right down the middle.  As i walk back to the cart, they come driving out of the trees.  I apologize, they are unbothered and offer me to go ahead.  I par 2 and double 3 when I run into a threesome on 4.  after they putt out on 4, they double back and ask me to join and I accept.  They were playing behind a 5-some that was playing 2, 2-man scrambles.  I double the next two holes.  On 7, the 5-some lets us play through and now we are playing at a good pace.

I bogey 7 and 8.  Then, on 9, I hit a 7i to within 2 feet (Almost hole in one).  I tap in the birdie then par the next two.  Bad double on 12 with a duffed chip, then a 9 with two OB off the tee on 13.  Reset and parred 14-17 with a 40' chip hole out on 16 (how often do you hole out?).  18 I hit maybe my best drive ever, but three put for bogey.  Finished with a 87, 86adj. for my lowest round ever (how many times have you shot your lowest score ever).

83 - +11 which is a +2 net. In a round that was 50% FIR, 61%GIR, and 1 OB, but the main culprit was putting. 6 3 putts for a 39 putts in total. Worst I’ve putted in the last 2 seasons BUT my excuse is I tried a new putter (Jailbird mini),  coupled with the hardest and fastest the greens have been since the season opened.

Playing a society round tomorrow where the score counts, so we’ll see if I do any better…and no, will not use the jailbird, but back to my double wide.

79. 36-43. Got wild on the back 9 (1 fairway and 2 out of play). Very frustrating. However, a few months ago, I wasn't playing because I couldn't see the ball because of cataracts. Left eye surgery went great. Right eye, not so great (long story).

So, I was just happy to be out there and seeing the ball fly the whole way. The last 6 months were miserable because I couldn't see anything.

Shot 88 at Southern Pines, which was decent but I succumb to the heat (and general mid handicapness) by finishing up Triple, Double, Triple. Birdied 3 of the Par 3s so I'm happy with that.

Today, shot something like 93ish at Tobacco Road. Truly incredible course from an architecture standpoint so I wasn't playing seriously, just whacking balls around for the experience.

Shot a 79 yesterday - first time breaking 80 this season.  I'm more often than not in the low 80s with always a shot OB, or a couple of brain fart doubles, but this time kept double bogey off the card which is a first! This came a day after shooting an 83 with 3 double bogeys in the round. Kept the jailbird in the bag as didn't want too change the setup, putted a bit better, but still missed two 3 footers in the last 5 holes (not kidding).

Think I heard Bryson say after his round on Saturday that his plan for sunday was fairway, greens and 2 putt. Tried to keep that mindset, and it seemed to have worked.

Restarted the Arccos subscription several days ago.  They’re working well now after killing my sub for a couple years due to glitches.  Sent them a correction request for the 13th hole, it’s a par 4, not 5 for the men.

Just a quick back nine early to beat the steamy heat.

Tried a new to me course yesterday with my sons for the youngest's birthday, over in Grass Lake, MI named Calderone.  Grass conditions were good, traps were absolute trash with rocky soil in them, course layout was funky and lots of wild areas with native grasses up to a foot high.  Lots of blind shots on canted fairways that moved in another direction out of sight over the rise.  Greens were fast and true with small contour changes to mess with ya.  Can't recommend a visit here.  It wasn't a fun experience the first time round.

I played in a match play event today. First round. I was nervous AF on the front 9, felt like I had two left feet. Shot 42. Was down by 2 at the turn and it really should've been more. Shot 37 on the back. 8 greens in regulation...didn't make any of the birdie putts and I should've made 3 of them really. Few lip outs. I was 3 down on the 14th tee and I won on 18. Psyched but damn. Dunno where my swing was for most of the match.

My son is a scratch player, a guy he works with talked him into a 3 man scramble tourney and they payed his entry fee.   Team shot a 74 ( is that even possible ) he said " dad, we did not use a single drive or shot of theirs the whole round " I said so you got a free round of golf shot a 74 got some swag and got fed ?

Sounds good to me. ☺

Played 18 at my home course yesterday, shot a +23 91. Had a good front nine with a 42, lost touch with the putter and had some bad luck on the second loop for a 49. The course was also a little more backed up and the group I was with was a group of beginners, vs a good player and his wife and kid on the front 9.
