$-taper equivalents in other shaft brands

Looking for something equivalent maybe in Nippon Modus or something else maybe I am forgetting anyone have any suggestions?

I just got fitted about a month ago. I was between S Taper Stiff and Modus 130 Stiff. Modus felt better

Currently playing the KBS $-Taper 130X and love everything about it and have previously tried the Nippon Modus 120X with terrible results.

Nice to know. I will have to check out the 125 and 130 in maybe the TX and see how that works.

130 is a different animal. I wasn’t a fan of the 120s

120 & 130 are completely different than 115/125. 115/125 are mid trajectory similar to the $ taper. Not saying you’ll get the same results, but it’s a competitor

130 is a high trajectory. People have different results with 120, sometimes low, sometimes mid/high

If you are looking at Nippon, it is definitely the 125 I'd choose as the closest. 125 will be softer in the mid and stiffer in the tip than the $ taper based on the Ei profiles I see. 

 

What are you looking to change about the performance or feel you get from the $taper?

Nothing really. Just looking for cheaper options for a second set of irons and potentially a alternative to the DG S400 TI’s in my wedges.

Have played $ taper extensively multiple sets of irons, and have owned most iron shaft offerings on the market - modus 130 is nearly identical in terms of feel and trajectory

Modus 130 is NOT similar to $tapers.  The 130 has a very stout handle and soft tip.

 

The modus 125 is definitely closer to the $taper in my opinion.

Nippon 125 Wedge is fantastic for me.

I just double checked the EI profiles and definitely the modus 125 is a better match than the modus 130 to the $taper.  The 130 butt section is so stiff, it makes the shaft feel ver stout.  Then you get through the strike zone with it and the soft tip makes it feel like butter.  

The modus 125 has a bit stiffer tip section than the $taper.  
 

PS: I have personally played all of these shafts.  I’m currently about to switch to the MMT 125g.

How did modus120tx and MMT125 compare to $taper ? Feel and profile?

This could be true but completely depends on your swing release. #’s wise the 125 is the closest. 120 could launch lower or higher than 125 depending on release.

I’d say the $-tapers are similar to the Tour Elevate VSS 120s.

 

Elevates may have a bit more spin but pretty similar for me.

 

I play the 125 $-Tapers and Tour Elevate 120X.

 

I find the Elevates are slightly soft to flex as well.

looking for more weight. I liked the feel of $tapers. Got better dispersion with TI x100.   Makes me curious about 120tx (it’s 125gr) and mmt125

The modus 120 has a softer butt and very stiff tip.  Very odd shaft to me, coming from Ctaper or $taper.  I’m about to put MMTs in my Apex Pros.  I bought them blind for giggles...

Modus 125 for $18 cheaper per shaft than $ taper would get my moneys. I just made the shift to TI X100 for lower trajectory. Loving them

Been playing $ taper 130x for 3 years. I also hated the Modus 120 but have liked the 105 & 125...currently playing the 125s in my Vokeys. Haven't tried the 130.

 

I also just got an i500 3i that had the MMT 125tx so that I could try out the shaft. In KBS terms, it plays stout like the C-taper but has a feel that is more like the $ taper, in my opinion. I was ripping baby fades yesterday, even when I really went after it; with my irons/$ tapers I am much more worried about lefts if I really need to get after it. After 1 range session and 1 round I have already decided my next set of irons will definitely have the MMT 125 tx lol. I am a 108 swing speed with a quick transition; was worried about the tx being too much but so far so good.

Interesting I keep seeing the MMT 125 pop up in threads might have to build something to try out.

I wish I could play the DG TI X100’s they just always feel like I’m working to hard whenever I have swung them before. Sounds like Modus 125 and the MMT 125 might be getting a test run.
