Except for a few movies mentioned I have all the rest in my DVD collection. I never bought many DVD's but I have most of these mentioned. I never knew I was a B movie guy.

When I think of 80s action movies its gotta have good one liners and a decent amount of cool he-man s***...

 

Terminator's almost too good to include in this category but I'll just use it as the pinnacle.  (James Cameron's the man) T2 might be better. Its in rarified air with the Empire Strikes Back. 

 

1. First Blood - really not a bad movie but when Stallone has Dennehy in the woods that's just classic. Drifter takes on big feeling sheriff. 

2. Predator - What can I say.... you've got Arnold, Carl Weathers and the former governor of Minnesota taking on a camouflaged alien.  

3. Die Hard

 

 

From there its all B movies, Commando's good. I love when he tells the stewardess "My friends dead tired." First Blood Part II when Stallone's got the mic in the POW camp. I love in Demoliton Man when Snipes tells the dystopian doctor, "thats who you remind me of an evil Mr. Rodgers." 

 

From there, I can add a list of ones that are not so memorable to me. Cyborg, Cobra, Tango & Cash, Universal Soldier, Bloodsport, Deathwish, escape from NY & LA, Sudden Death, etc....

Robert Blake probably deserves a mention in "most preposterous villain" . He exists as a boss in that movie for 2 hours and you can deal with...But try to imagine that boss in real life over like 20 years. He's an absolute maniac. He's willing to basically murder his own officers to keep a (almost certainly insured) train moving on schedule. He's blatantly racist. He seems to enjoy yelling at and humiliating his employees. This guy would be in prison after like a year at ANY job. And the city would have like 50M in sexual harrassment claims

 

Anyone who has ever filled their jacket up with bags of anything knows you can't punch a guy and not have anything come loose. Big big risk there by Woody at the end. Of course, Woody's character was dumb

 

That being said, his initial plan to rob the train seemed simple and smart, just got unlucky

Great villain, plot, and cheesy story and great 1-liners. I watch it every time I see it's on.

OK, so i watched Commando again yesterday. Some more thoughts:

 

-What kind of special forces regimen was John Matrix on? Despite his name he is clearly Austrian or from that region. Bennett speaks with a very noticeable Australian accent. Was this some sort of world police?

 

-Bennett turned down 100K that he would have gotten anyway just to kill Matrix for free? Why not just take the money? Is he worried the drug dealer guy doesn't have enough cash?

 

-The woman goes to prison after the movie right? She FIRES A ROCKET LAUNCHER AT A COP TRUCK

 

I also wonder what Sully's role in the organization is. He's just some sort of middle man? He can't fight, doesn't seem to have any weapons training, doesn't seem to be former military. Is he just some businessman who applied for a job there and then found out they were criminals? Is he like their American liaison?

I loved the scenes when they were doing the decoy stuff and J Lo has to come out and act drunk to get the two girls off Snipes. Also crack up when they get robbed at the beginning and turn their guns on each other and start arguing. Saw it in theaters and still watch it when it comes on Starz or whatever movie channel.
