Met the caddie master when he came up to play Belvedere. What did you think?

High Pointe is truly a special club and will get amazing accolades soon enough.  The ownership, staff, members and entire operation are as good as it gets.  The golf course is spectacular and it is the best  Doak course I’ve ever played which says alot when you think of courses like Pacific Dunes.  The course will play firm and fast and and there is not a weak hole out there.  18 “all world” holes of golf and the fact that it’s Tom Doaks first ever course which is being brought back to life is an amazing story in golf.  Northen Michigan golf is truly a blessing

I see that Arcadia has posted their 2025 pricing for all of their courses including their new short course The Dozen.

My group played both the Bluffs and the South in August of '22 for $285 total (the Bluffs 18 was twilight so we got a bit of a deal.  $130 for the South in the morning/$155 for the Bluffs in the afternoon.

Fast forward to 2025 peak pricing:

Arcadia Bluffs: $275

Arcadia South: $180

The Dozen: $125

All in all it looks like a 36 hole day playing both courses during peak months is up about $100 from 2022.

Just get a job there and they let you bring 3 free guests 🙂  Probably a little tougher to get on Bluffs on peak season and it would mostly be 9 hole nights on the bluffs but the south course is usually wide open

Really? I tried booking for a group of 12 at the end of September. Inquired about several weekend dates in July and August and they didn’t have times that worked for us on any of the dates I gave them. (We were hoping to play 36 each day)

You were inquiring about July and August 2025?

Yes, 2025 dates. Hmm interesting.

Maybe guest who have booked lodging were able to book tee times early and that was causing issues?

Yeah maybe if you were lodging there you could book there earlier.  Guess that makes sense but thats shocking those dates/times were already unavailable in late September.

Just booked my rounds for August yesterday. Doing 2 on the Bluffs, one on South, one on the Dozen then headed to Forest Dunes to play the loop both ways, bootlegger and FD. It’s my nephews graduation from college gift. Can’t wait.

You are going to love it. Drop into the Laughing Horse Saloon en route from AB to FD. It’s a hoot.

I've done this exact trip, with American Dunes added in a few years ago. I gave my nephew a few options and he wanted to come back to Michigan and play these. Trying to decide if I move my Friday round on Loop Black and bail on Boot Legger to play the Dozen at Arcadia. Have some time to figure it out as I have tee times on both.

Looking for some Golf Trip advice we are going up to Charlevoix for our trip next June.  Playing 36 at Dunmaglass and Belvedere.  I have already narrowed it down to 5 courses that I would consider for 2 more rounds.

Atrium Dells

Charlevoix Country club

Chief

Bear

Hawk’s Eye

I have played Bear and Hawk’s Eye (been awhile) and never played the others.  So I’m looking for some feedback on the other 3 and how they would compare to Bear or Hawk’s.  Thanks.

I would do Antrim Dells and CCC, which also happen to be the most convenient logistically to Dunmaglas and Belvedere.

What does your lodging situation look like?

Of those, I like Hawk's Eye the best. I would avoid the Chief

We are staying at Dumaglass, driving up from Grand Rapids.

I'd consider staying at A Ga Ming if you are married to that area.  I"ve heard Dunmaglas is pretty dumpy these days.

Play 36 at A Ga Ming Torch and Sundance (same location).

Antrim Dells is 15 minutes north.

Belvedere is 25 mins north.

Or if you want to sub out Antrim Dells for Hawks Eye, do that.

I know the Chief is building new lodging that will be available for spring 2025 as well.  Not much online to read about it though as they are not yet finished.

I've been trying to call and email the Chief for weeks and can not get ahold of anyone.  Why are people down on the Chief?  Is is just because it is too much target golf or the conditions.  I seen the mixed reviews on Dunmaglass, still looks like a fun course to play for me.  Spoke with the owner for 15min last week seemed like a really nice guy.  I played the the Gail's at Lakewood shores this summer and they have let that go a bit as well, but I still enjoyed playing it because it is such a great layout, hopefully that is the case with Dunmaglass.  I started this idea with staying at Shanty and playing Cedar, Hawks and Legend, but they are pretty packed already, pricey, and been there done that, so I decided to pivot.  Might put in a call to A Ga Ming pivot again haha.

I've done just about every trip in Michigan Dunmaglass has been on my radar for years, never worked to squeeze it in, after playing Belvedere a couple falls ago I have been desperate to make it back so it seemed like common sense to put them together.  Dream/nightmare is another one I have not check off the list yet but that would be a pretty big pivot.    Thanks again for the feedback.

Re: The Chief, it's just not a good layout. Several 90 degree doglegs, blind shots, etc., and though it's been a while since I played it, I remember pace of play being pretty bad.

Dunmaglas - My buddy played it last summer.  His words: "Its an absolute shame what that course is compared to what it could be.  Great views. Great elevation.  Layout is so fun.  Conditions were a joke.  I wish Boyne would buy it.  It could be a top 10-ish public in the state."

I spend my summers in that area and what you shared is what I hear multiple times a year. Sad really, the owners have been offered a more than fair price but holding on......

Charlevoix Country Club is typically in good shape. Sometimes too much water on the course making it soft. And depending tees played can take driver out of your hand often. But a worthy play. I like Hawk's Eye. Summer member at Belvedere and love it.

Look into the 1st tee of Michigan players card, they offer a discount rate at many courses that you can easily build a nice trip. Hawk's Eye, CCC, Some of the Boyne Courses and more are on it most years.
