Re: The Chief, it's just not a good layout. Several 90 degree doglegs, blind shots, etc., and though it's been a while since I played it, I remember pace of play being pretty bad.

The Chief is awful lol. Back in the day Hawk's Eye was the same price and it was such a no-brainer between the two.

Offered a price by whom?

The most serious offer was probably from a group of investors downstate Michigan that thought the property had great potential for both golf and some limited lodging. The current lodging is not good based on what I have been told. And as shared in this thread the course is in poor condition compared to most everything else in the area.

Sort of a bummer really.

I was hoping you'd say Boyne.

But yeah, someone needs to clean that place up.

Played Hickory Hollow

Playing right next door at Sycamore Hills. I've never played Hickory Hollow, and have been playing in the area for 40 years.

I think Sylvan Glen is walking only right now, and two of my playing partners aren't up to walking. Just looked, and their tee sheet is full until 1:00 this Sunday.

You're not missing anything with the Hick.  It was our Stevenson HS golf team home course. back in the early '70s and was tired then.  Every play at Selfridge?  I retired outta there in'98 and went back this fall for a GAM Golf Day.  Had a great time playing with my oldest son and reminicing about the old league play there.  It's a fun layout with just a couple challenging holes.

We've got nothing open nearby in White Lake, so it's sim golf on Monday and Friday.

I drive by Selfridge every day, but have never played it.
Out here on the east side, it looks like the two Troy courses, and Sycamore Hills are open all winter, weather permitting. Not sure about anything else.
I've never played in December here before, but I want to hit my new Bridgestone's once before I tear them apart and rebuild them.

My grandpas best friend was a colonel so he and  his buddy played Selfridge every sunday at 6AM for like 20 years straight.

Its looking like my group is making a return trip to the Perfect Foursome golf trip in 2025, about a decade removed from our first trip.  Last time around we played Greywalls, Sweetgrass 2x and Timberstone.

This time around I'm thinking we will cut out Timberstone to pull back on some of the driving that this trip requires.  I'm curious for those that have played Sage Run, how it stacks up with Sweetgrass?

I thought Sagebrush was great; probably the best greens on the trip the year we went. It was also the toughest course of three between Greywalls and Sweetgrass.

I went three years ago.  I liked Sage more than Sweetgrass personally.  I think our group of 8 collectively liked it more than Sweetgrass as well.

Very different courses though.

I’ve done day trips to sand valley the last 2 summers. I’ve loved it, but unless I can somehow play Lido im thinking it may be Graywalls for me this year.

What would you guys recommend if playing 36. Greywalls and the heritage? Greywalls twice? Greywalls and something else? I’ll be traveling southwest back to northern Wisconsin post round.

This summer we did 36 Timberstone, 18 sweetgrass, 18 sage run, 36 at Greywalls.  As others mentioned the greens at sage run were amazing and it is really difficult golf course.  Greywalls is probably more fun/better views then sage run, but if you asked me out of those 4 what would I be most excited to play again, it would be Sage Run for sure.  Maybe that is because we only played it once, but Sage Run is really good.  I thought Sweetgrass was just ok, big greens, big fairways, not that difficult.  If you have a lot of high handicaps on your trip you might not want to play Sage Run Twice.

Yeah, I should have added that.  Sage is def harder than Sweetgrass.

Definitely having friends over for a backyard fire and drinks though. Gotta enjoy the warm weather one way or another.

That’s why I spend more time fishing these days!!!  I played 36 holes a couple times this year. Getting too old for that now too. Father Time winning
