Tell me about it!  I'm a front-line soldier in the war against Covid and you could say my pay is almost laughable.  I should be making over $100 an hour.  I literally put my life on the line every day I go to work.  Radiology technologists are pretty much the red-headed stepchildren in every hospital.  Yet we are essential to diagnosing almost every patient that comes in and in nearly every orthopaedic surgery that gets performed, as well as many general and vascular procedures.  Almost nothing could get done in the hospital without us, yet we get paid very little compared to nurses.  We should go on strike.  Too bad we're not union.

Well done sir.  You should be proud of your efforts along w the rest of your team dedicated to keeping people alive under extreme duress.

Yeah I'm definitely not as important right now as someone like yourself and other medical staff but it sucks how the corner stones/back bones of a lot of industries are overlooked and under appreciated. I know someone who is an RT as well and she'll talk about the long hours, the N95 bruises from wearing masks all day, doesn't talk much about work but it sounds like a lot of the same as you.

For me I'm a 1 man team doing the work of 3-4 people while providing work for about 15 people. Those 15 people can work from home where I'm on the road so factor in travel time, weather, amount of daylight, other tasks and duties, etc. If you calculate all that it's almost impossible for me to keep up and I can't at this point. I did have a small team with 2 other guys and we were so efficient that no one else could keep up, we were 6mo ahead then they both left and now I'm just kinda shoveling whatever I can ahead so work doesn't come to a screeching halt but it's close, it's very close to happening and I don't care if it does cause I can't get help.

If I leave my company will fold within a month, I've been asking for more money, it's falling on deaf ears so I'm looking to leave, they'll pay other guys more or as much as me who can be replaced in 2-3 weeks. So I'm looking for other work and will leave without hesitation or allowing a counter offer.

Thanks.  It would sure help us out a ton if people would do the one little thing that they could do to make sure they don't end up in the hospital with covid in the first place.  If you're in an at-risk demographic, get the jab.  I've only seen TWO patients hospitalized during this entire pandemic that were vaccinated, and they both had some VERY bad underlying conditions.  And I work at a good-sized hospital with over 400 beds.  The vaccine is extremely effective at keeping people from getting seriously ill and needing to be hospitalized.  I can't tell you the number of patients who eventually died who expressed regret for not getting the vaccine, you know, before they had to be put on a ventilator.  People are dying who shouldn't be, including my uncle back in October of 2021.  He was only 55 years old.  Totally senseless. I hope this post isn't too political.  If so, I apologize.

Discussing public health issues is not in itself political.

Insurance Advisor here. I was in the golf industry the previous 8 years and wanted to move in a different direction. Not gonna lie, I have been quite surprised with how many people get awful insurance advice. I have been able to help out quite a few people in my short career so far and I am looking forward to helping more.

Are you involved in administering CT scans?  About 9 years ago after over two months of doctor not figuring out what was going on, I was in for a CT scan for the issue and within minutes after I left the tech grabbed a doctor at our hospital and suggested my appendix was an emergency issue and no reason to wait for the radiologist to weigh in many hours later - doc was convinced and shortly after my  appendix was gone!  Literally may have saved my life because I was so acclimatized to the pain that would come and go as it leaked and would reseal itself somehow over time I would have probably just waited for it to pass again.  Still remember the cell phone call from my head nurse friend and when I tried to negotiate for some time to get things done at work, "You get the hell in here now!" then "Why are you still talking to me?"  LOL, she's a treasure.

Had the opposite situation.  I decided I needed my appendix out w the help of Web MD in the early morning hours after a mostly sleepless night.  Drove myself to the ER at 6:30am and a couple tests later it was confirmed.  They let me wait all day in the ER into mid-afternoon presumably so I didn't interrupt their precious schedule of elective surgeries.  Well my appendix didn't burst but I sure had some unforeseen problems (and still unknown.)

I ended up being strapped down to the gurney coming out of the surgery fighting them the whole time as they tried to and finally did intubate me.  My wife and young kid were kept in the dark for hours and they were throughly distraught when they finally let them see me some 4 hours after surgery in Intensive Care where I spent the next 24 hours.......I was supposed to go home after the appendectomy!   I begged them to get that thing out of my throat, it was horrible!!!  And one of the main reasons I'm deathly afraid of covid......you don't want to be intubated.  Anyhow 2 nights in the hospital, lost 20lbs, and I was a mess for 2 weeks after.

I've worked public services my whole life and never made more than 35 a year.  I'm considering learning Linux and AWS/Azure cloud services.  Can I find a job after self-study for a year or two?  I don't want to pay expensive tuition to a college if I don't have to.

Or if you have any general industry transition advice, I'm all ears.

Thank you.

Aerospace Engineer - Particularly interior materials and flammability certification. Have a gov't 'license' for the later part which is nice.

Most people go cool you get to play with fire, 95% of the time it's your standard Bunsen burner, the other 5% is an oil burner which is kerosene with a wide mouthed flamethrower pretty much.

I was in corporate real state for my entire working life after college.  Then decided to stay home and help the child we have guardianship of with his learning disabilities.  Now That he has become a better student, I’m back in the job market.  Wish I would have taken time to get degree in tech, but I’m not a huge tech fan to begin with.

If you're not an expert in something , Tech jobs usually is just marketing , sales, purchasing like everything else.

Definitely a good space to be in if you're an engineer however

Other thing with tech is it can be pretty unstable with all the acquisitions.

Career Machinist and Manager of several busy machine shops for 30-some years.  I love making cool things and helping others to do the same.  Not particularly glamorous or well paid but I do ok and I like it.  Its fun to teach young people how to make things with their hands.  😀

Mentoring young people is what the trades is all about 😀 good on you brother.

That's cool.  Swiss machines are amazing pieces of machinery.  How's biz these days?  We're very busy in custom machining and fab but are having a heck of a time finding good people...

Thanks, yeah it's a living. Not complaining right now., but like you said, hard to find the people. So I don't look, lol. Also, hard to secure raw material in timely manner or at decent value.

Awesome you still have the passion for the work and to teach it too. I love what I do, I sweat details no one will ever give notice to but I derive a lot of satisfaction from that.  It's what probably kept me in work for much of my life.

Forgot to add I also coach youth and HS football. Golf and football best ways to experience all emotions in a short timespan haha

I sometimes in other topics equate coaching to golf so that's where it comes from.
