Recoil Shafts for Wedges

I currently game Callaway CF 16 irons with Recoil 760 F3 shafts for 5-PW. I recently purchased 50 and 56 MD5 wedges with stock DG 115 shafts. While I like the heads, they feel heavy compared to my other irons. I am thinking changing the shafts to Recoil 80 Smac Wrap F3 shafts. Any thoughts.

 

Options are:

1. Keep as is and continue to practice and play with stock steel shafts.

2. Change to 80 or even 95 Recoils.

3. Sell and add Sub 70 or Indi wedges with custom Recoil shafts.

 

Thoughts are appreciated.

Why don’t you match your wedge shafts to your iron shafts?

1.  No.  Definately not.

 

2. As far as what weight to play, that's really personal preference.  Only testing will tell you what will be best for you.  No one here will be able to tell you that.   But in generally a good starting point for that testing will be between the iron shaft weight and maybe up to 10 or 15 gm heavier than the iron shafts.

Have the same graphite shafts in my irons and wedges- works fine for me.

I am playing the same weight recoil 110's in my wedges as I do in my irons.

 

I experimented with the 125 recoils, but because of the way I use my wedges I preferred the same shaft.  

 

In general you are going to want the same weight or heavier in your wedges, I cannot remember a single person I know performing better with lighter weight shafts in their wedges.

I use the same Steelfiber shafts in all my irons, and I’m anxiously waiting for the G425’s I ordered with Recoil ES SmacWrap F4 shafts. I like everything to match, which may be a mental issue rather than a performance one.

Use recoil 780 SmacWraps  in my G425 irons and my Glide wedges. Works well for my game.

I switched to recoil darts in my irons, that made me inconsistent with the wedges due to the much higher total weight. Ended up switching to the recoil darts in the wedges as well and the tempo and consistentency is back

How do you like the recoil darts. I’m playing the ESX 460 and have played the recoil 780...just wondering how they compare.

I am a huge fan of them. I played project x lz tour 95 graphite before these and also tried out the mmt 80s before settling in these. The light weight (about 70 grams trimmed) took me a little to get used to but the balance point is really low so you keep a good swing weight. What I really liked was that darts let you feel loading and kicking with out feeling loose. In a lot of ways they remind me of project x lz 95s but I think they have better feel.

 

They compare very similarly in feel to the recoil 95 I have in a hybrid just lighter if that makes sense.

The darts are the best lower weight Recoil shafts I have hit, and I have hit them all.  75 gram regular would b a nice fit with your current recoil 760s, darker finish of the Darts wood look great with black or rust wedge heads and less glare. You can order taper through Golfworks.

Have you compared the 75 gram Darts with the Recoil 80’s? I can special order the Darts in a .355 from Golfworks. Thanks

The Darts have much better feel to me and will be similar to the feel in your irons with the 760s.  I play my Cally 54 and 58 same length as my Apex pro gap wedge with 760 to get swing weight up a bit and the feel is sublime around the greens and feels similar to my gap wedge.  Short game is strongest part of my game and this setup has worked very well for me.

I've got the Recoil Proto 110 F4 in my irons and the 125 Proto F4 softstepped in the wedges.  A little heavier and a little softer is a good combo for wedges.

Regular Recoil 110 5-9i then Wedge Proto in PW & 52* then Recoil 125 Proto 8i in my 58*

I have Recoil 80s in my wedges, which matches my irons.

Some times it's better to go with a different shaft for wedge.  A lot of guys go softer in flex but will keep the same shaft or go with something totally different.  For me I went with the KBS 610 S+ because it's more of a low/low wedge shaft.  I don't need my wedges getting so much spin that they balloon into the wind or spin back 25 feet.
