Surprisingly not. There are good public courses in Crossville. Nothing private nearby other than Honky Tonk National which has just tuned private

Yeah, I knew there was good public courses which is why I thought there would be good private options, too.  I am trying to find out about Five Oaks as well for a family member that is moving into the area, but so far, no luck.

Thought we had been talking more public sphere golf options.  I agree though, that those are good picks, just not accessible to most and spread well through the state, or into Indiana.

Aside from OS and Park Mammoth, most are more than a short drive from Nashville as well.

I’d recommend Franklin CC in Franklin Ky, Bowling Green CC & Indian Hills CC in BG along with the already mentioned Olde Stone.  Then obviously Park Mammoth a short drive up the road from BG. I’ll be there this Thursday and can’t wait to play it again.

Nashville sucks public golf wise.

Franklin Bridge is around the corner but I refuse to pay their prime summer rates - $120? HAHAH.

Is that price true?….my sister lives literally across the street from the clubhouse and last time I played it 4 yrs ago it was only $35 to play during the week. That’s crazy if it’s that much now.

How's Indian Hills?

Great shape but they have a decent construction project going on currently. Rebuilding the chipping/putting green area and also some of the cart paths. The course itself in great shape and greens have been FAST.

I personally like Indian better than BGCC. Shot my best round ever +3 at Indian is one of the reasons why, but also just like the course better. To me it’s like comparing the Old Guard CC vs the New Style CC. BG has the old money and Indian has Younger money. On top of that Indian is a more friendly course where as BG can punish you pretty good. The fairways are a lot better at Indian too, but greens are both very comparable at both.

Yes, that price is accurate. I, too, remember during COVID you could play for like $40 with a cart. That place is JAMMED constantly so, in theory, it seems they can charge whatever they want. Conditions have improved from a few years ago but not anywhere near what should command $100+ per round. They also have some sort of semi-private membership deal that probably makes it a little more economical and maybe they just charge everyone else through the nose. But yes, it is INSANE how much those greens fees have increased.

I’ve played with quite a few people who had their semi-private membership who decided it wasn’t worth it. They stated it was still hard to get tee times, the driving range was always packed. And the pace of play was horrible. They all come and play over in Murfreesboro now.

This make me happy - I doubt they will lose golfers as the demand in the area is so high, but I hope they do notice less people are willing to pay that much unless they do a ton of upgrades to that course.

Anybody else been down to Champions Run lately? Not a bad deal. Little farther south, and a pretty meh course as its so flat out there, but its countryside scenic and reasonable green fees with a grass driving range.

I played there last year and liked the layout just felt like the greens were too small. I think if they pushed out the greens (unlikely due to cost, difficulty, etc) about 25% and took out some invasive trees that would be a really good option.

Did you play after they re-did everything? I heard they just put new greens in - Not sure if that was end of last year or what. the clubhouse was fairly nice for being in the sticks.

The greens were nice when I played out there a month ago but still small. The course looks completely different now though as they removed so many of the trees on the property. They removed several hundred trees in total. I would say it is almost too open at this point in some areas.

That was exactly my takeaway. I really enjoyed all of the Par 3s and a few holes on the back, but most of the front 9 felt the same to me. 18 can be a fun hole if the pin is tucked back right.

What is the latest with Temple Hills County Club? Thinking about joining out there, but need to go do a preview round. Is it worth the hassle?

I played out there I think it was last year with a friend whose father-in-law is a member.  I find that it did not fit my eye course wise.  Granted I played on a rainy winter day.  I am sure it a a beautiful track when its green instead of dormant and would love to give it another chance in better conditions.

From what I gather though, it is still probably one of the better deals in the Williamson County area as far as Country Clubs go.

I was just reading an article about a proposed housing development being denied that runs along Five Oaks Golf and Country Club.  Apparently, the developer had entered a partnership agreement with the Country Club to help them financially.  Apparently, the developer has said that the proposed housing development will help prevent Five Oaks Golf and Country Club from filing bankruptcy.

Has anyone else heard that Five Oaks Golf and Country Club might be headed towards bankruptcy?

It is so insanely firm and dry out at Harpeth Hills right now (relative to how it normally is) that I think Hole #1 might be the hardest 350 yd par 4 in Nashville.

I can totally see that - impossible to keep anything short of the creek.  I dropped my Son off in Memphis this weekend for Sophmore year and we played Links at Galloway on Saturday (Memphis munis are not too bad BTW - Galloway, Aubobon was just redone by Bergin, and Overland Park 9 was redone by King and Collins) and it was hard to get a tee in the ground and drives were rolling out 50-70 yards.

Montgomery bell is in similar condition... Played Saturday and just felt like I was hitting wedges off concrete out of the fairways and greens were not receptive. Basically driving several par 4's with the slopes and rollout.

Other than being as firm as a parking lot, do the greens and fairways look okay or are they burned out? I love Montgomery Bell as a walk but that course has had some wild swings in conditions in the last few years.

Kind of in that super hard dusty dirt phase. Half green, half brown. Greens were green. Leaves have started falling too.

Essentially hitting irons and wedges and just getting covered in dust haha. But I also hit down quite a bit, so maybe it's just me. You could tell the greens had been aerated a few weeks back. Lots of 'illegal' tamping the green down was happening in our group. Almost impossible to keep a ball on line.

Cedar crest in Murfreesboro was on the hard and dusty side when I played it last week. I was basically playing it like a links course landing the ball 10-15 yards in front of the green but still had it rolling off the back half the time which is a nightmare on a lot of their holes. I had a 270 yard 7 wood off the tee on one hole because of how hard the fairway was. The ball looked like it hit concrete when it landed and proceeded to get a good 70 yards of roll out.

Does anybody in here do the annual pass at Hermitage or Gaylord Springs?  If so, is it worth it?

Also, are there any other annual passes at other clubs in the greater Nashville area that are worth it?  I am not looking for something with a huge initiation fee. I’m strictly looking for nice golf clubs with yearly fees.

Coming from out of town and going to at the very least be playing Gaylord Springs Tuesday, how is the course this time of year?

It's in great shape. Starting to turn a little less green with these random cold days in TN, but i've been out there several times the past few weeks either for a round or to practice and it's still pure. Greens are rolling good as always.

I was reading something on Facebook yesterday about a new Luxury Golf community going on on the Maury County side of Spring Hill.  The prices seem a bit out of place for the homes in Maury County in my opinion.

I think the name of the community is going to be called Firefly and housing costs will range from $800k-$1.5 million.  400 home sites total with access to an 18-hole course and 9-hole short course.

This will do me no good as it is to far from where I live to consider membership and most likely out of my price range anyways.  I just thought it interesting as that is not the county I would have guessed would be getting the next private course offering.  I was sure it would be Rutherford, but unfortunately, it will not be.
