So the last Ontario Golf thread was deleted this morning by a moderator and I received a Level 1 warning for making political comments.

 

So I’ll stay away from talking about politics, but still think it’s important to have a thread where we can talk about what’s happening in Ontario and different golf courses etc that are specific to Ontario.

 

Just don’t compare Doug Ford to the previous president of the U.S. or get into politics.

Yeah, someone else from the thread got a warning about not discussing COVID also.

 

Pretty tough to discuss golf in Ontario (or anywhere else in Canada) without mentioning politics or COVID. But to be fair to the moderators, yeah we were probably getting carried away.

 

Just such a frustrating time, and the closures make absolutely no sense!

This was sent out by Golf Ontario today. Apparently there was a golf course in Southwestern Ontario that sent out an e-mail to a few other courses to try and organize a meeting where they would discuss a joint effort to all re-open together on May 21st whether or not the outdoor sports closure was lifted or not:

This Ontario golf closure is perplexing. From what I can read in the news, the govt seems worried about transmission across different zip codes.

Why not enforce strict Driver's license checks to allow only local residents to play?  And maybe include out-of-towners who have been vaccinated at least 14 days prior?

Postal Code Golf is what I have been advocating for all along for the last month. It's just a common sense approach to the "limiting mobility" reasoning that they keep spewing. If that's really what it's about, then Postal Code Golf is an extremely easy solution.

I heard a rumour the City of Toronto is working on ways to re-open their courses and circumvent the provincial government. 

I think we’re going to see a lot of courses starting to open up as well.

The government is proving to be completely incompetent and waiting until June 2nd is like waiting up all night to see Santa...fool’s gold.

I predicted this would happen, i.e. ignoring all the science, in the other thread.

 

Like most stupid people who have been caught in their stupidity DoFo's only reaction is to double down on the stupid. Otherwise he ends up admitting he's wrong.

 

Once numbers fall low enough thanks to vaccinations, schools being out, and the retail restrictions he can say he was "right".

At this point he’s flaunting his power and making a joke of everyone’s objections and scientific proof. To dismiss it all because his buddies have “a couple of pops” after a round and “it is what it is” makes the whole situation even more infuriating!!

 

I’m just hoping the rumour about the City of Toronto courses re-opening is true, and hopefully other course owners are also fed up of unjustly being closed down to the tune of Millions of dollars in lost revenue!

If there was a loophole that allowed a municipality to override the provincial order that would be a new wrinkle.

 

IANAL and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night so I don't know how that would work.

Not sure either, but something’s gotta give soon. Golf courses, driving ranges etc losing Millions of dollars every day for rules with no logic...don’t know how much longer everyone can just sit on their hands and accept that “it is what it is”.

I don't see why it's confusing, the guy spoke to his buddies and they told him they have a few pops of beer and cram in cars together --Is this not science?

 

Honestly the average golfer is probably >40yrs old . Is this an age group that typically carpools places? I know i regularly call my 39yr old friends and am like "hey man, let's go together the 4 of us, it's not like we all may have different schedules or families etc"

I’ve never seen anyone carpool to my club ... EVER.   Not in 30 years.  Maybe this is something his public playing buddies do when they do road trips to play 60 mins away

 

Same logic applies.  Some people drink and drive so let’s stop selling alcohol.  Now THAT would be anarchy

 

But to put all players in that behaviour category is ridiculous

 

We need a revolt but Canadians are too polite for real action

If there is a municipality loophole I can gaurentee niagara won't do it.  Last lock down the restrictions on Niagara were lifted but our medical climbed his high horse and kept us closed.
