Quebec Golf / Golfers / Courses

Bonjour Hi , my fellow residents of Canada's meilleur province!

 

Our mountains are 1/5th as high as Alberta and BC's so we lack mountain grandness, our prestigious courses are put to shame by those in wealthy Ontario, and we don't have the splendid Ocean views of Crowbush in PEI or Cabot. So all of this adds up to.....A very average golf landscape!

 

Nevertheless, we love the french language too much to leave our flat, bland golfing existence. Plus the better real estate prices can't be overloo.. (checks Realtor)...Oh CRAP that's here now too?

 

Where do you guys like playing? Or Je m'excuse....Ou est-ce que vous jouer?

Mainly at Boucherville, some golf Québec tournaments, some visits to nicer clubs , usually Penn National in fall and hopefully some time in Florida. I’m eager to see the answers

I mentioned in the other thread but i'm west of the city. Play at Whitlock for the past decade, always figured id join Beaconsfield but just never did , and now i just like Whitlock too much

 

I was a member at Green Valley for a year a while back , and my first membership was at Ile Perrot in my early 20s

 

First got into golf with some work colleagues when i was 21-22, we used to buy like 100+ tickets a year to Ste-Rose in Laval and play there. That's where i really started playing golf. We also used to do the Tremblant "2 for 1" deals that you could buy every spring. So every year we would play Le Geant and Le Diable 2-3 times each.

 

I usually play the Falcon a few times a year with old work friends.

Back in the olden times before I moved away for school/job my main haunt was Golf Dorval, pre-butchering.

 

These days when I'm in town for birthday golf with my brothe/brother-in-law we'll usually go to Falcon or Lachute. The Lachute layouts are quite nice but the conditioning can be iffy at times. Falcon is always top notch.

 

We used to do a Lachute / Carling Lake double header fairly regularly back in the day. I haven't played Carling Lake in over 20 years but it used to be spectacular, mountainside golf.

So sad what happened to golf Dorval. That was such a true "muni" in every sense of the word. It was a really nice layout that was maintained somewhat decent but that was part of the charm. It was like Quebec's homeless man's version of Torrey Pines LOL

 

I played there so many times. Both Gentilly and Oakville were good but the back 9 on Oakville really was solid for a 40$ Muni

I almost booked it for this weekend but then I decided it would just piss me off.

 

Favourite memory there. Going for the green in two on 18. Snap hooked one into the water. Enter Tin Cup mode. Pretty much emptied the bag into the water before I finally got one on.

 

EDIT: Obviously this was back in the day when the 18th on Oakville was a par 5.

If anyone is playing in the Quebec Interclub event, let's hear it? Where are you playing and vs who?

 

We're in group 3 this year as we finished last in group 2 in 2019.

 

We are up against Blainvillier, Beaconsfield and Le Mirage. Our team in 2019 had lost a lot of people, i'm a bit more optimistic about this year's group. One of the top juniors we have is going to play which also helps.

 

Group 1 is Pinegrove, Laval Sur le Lac, Royal and Vallee de Richelieu. When we played against Richelieu in 2019 i think the guy in their #10 spot was 0.9 index LOL

@MtlJeff have you ever played Griffon just outside Lachute? I might be playing in a Calcutta there so looking for some info.

My friend has played it 4-5 times, that's the one that's like 7500yds from the tips right?

Correct. Although I doubt we'd be playing it that long since it's likely to be a bunch of old guys.

Was pretty good, played well, shot like 77-78 (match play so there's some pickups) which is pretty good for my second time playing the course with a bunch of fans etc.

 

Made points. So that's always nice.

 

My iron play was pretty much perfect. I drove it poorly and putted poorly LOL. But i nutted my irons all day.

 

These things are always fun. The top groups you get 200-300 fans sometimes. A lot of pressure but always fun to hit some good shots in front of that

Very cool, sounds like an awesome experience! I totally didn't notice the date of your post and the fact that it already took place, but still great to get the recap.

 

Never played a tournament, but might just enter one this year just to give it a shot and have the experience. Congrats on the great tournament man!

Once this virus is done with and travel is allowed, my wife and I are thinking of a trip to Canada and especially Quebec. She does not golf but I most certainly do! I am always allowed a day or two golf - so where should I go for a good round? I dont mind paying a bit extra but I do like an attractive course and hopefully with solid architecture. I guess somewhere accessible to Quebec City.

The nicest public access course near Québec City would be La Tempête. Green fee about $180 cdn…Modern design.

Australian actually and we are not allowed out of our fair land until vacc rates are 80%  - currently about 25.

Western Quebec (close to Ontario border) check out the Falcon!

 

Greens are usually a tad slow but it's a great layout

That looks nice, there was a resort I saw a year or two that looked amazing in Quebec but was pretty deep into the province. I have to find it again and see if worth it, probably not cause I'm single and my friends are cheap.

Literally never ventured into this part of the forum but felt the need to resuscitate this thread haha. 

 

My club is in Gatineau but I live in Ottawa, really cool to see some other golfwrx sickos that also live in the same part of the world, super cool!
