Video Apps

Are you using a video app to record swings? Do you have a favorite video app? What makes it your favorite?

Standard iphone camera app with high speed. Don't really need a specific app unless you want to draw lines or stuff like that.

Mirror Vision is awesome if you have an IPad or something to duplicate the view. Used that all winter on the mat to work on the swing

Do you need two Apple devices for this ie. iphone, ipad, mac?

You don't have to, it works as a stand alone recording device fine. To "mirror" the video feed and get live feedback you do need two devices, not sure if they both have to be apple.

 

How it works: Set up your phone in a normal recording position using the app, then open the app on your iPad (for example) and pair the two. The ipad will then show a live feed of the iPhone recording right in front of you. You can also control the iPhone using the iPad, making recording much easier.

I have HUDL but just got an email last week I really haven't read through indicating it sold out to an outfit named OnForm - haven't changed over yet.  I thought HUDL was pretty good.

I noticed HUDL was sold. What is it about the HUDL app that you really like? Does it have any especially good features?

Thanks, I have an iphone but someone stole my ipad a couple of years ago along with a Flightscope X2. I replaced it with a Samsung tablet. I guess I would buy an ipad if the Mirror Vision app makes it worthwhile.

@Hawkeye77 I tried out the new Onform app, the replacement for HUDL. It has some good features, like voice overs, drawing tools and slow motion. I especially like its auto-detect mode that senses when you swing and captures a video of it. The downside is they only let you record and save 10 swings and then try to sell you their premium plan.

Yikes - I’ve got 10 now I wouldn’t want to delete. Maybe I’m missing something but it looks like I can still use the old HUDL? Maybe  just ignore updates.

Hudl will cease to exist on September 1.  The company they sold to seems to only work with apple devices.  I think there is a paid app and a free app, but to use the free app you have to be invited by a person using the paid app.  Kinda dumb if you ask me.

Do you currently use HUDL? What are you going to do? Is there another app you plan to use?

Yes I use Hudl, just started really.  I am hoping that by end of summer I can get my swing in a place where I don’t need video as much.  I would prefer a free app so not sure what I will go to.  If I knew how to create a good app for this I would probably try.

Look in my post at the Graves/Moe Norman thread for an example of it's use:

 

You can draw lines, import slo-mo etc. It's OK for an interface but not as good as HUDL. I have not tested how many swings I can save etc on V1 but I used it to communicate with the Graves Academy when I was signed up so I kept the app. They have a number of schools signed up with them so the V1 app is popular and it's real easy to send the video too

 

Also, I record using the native Samsung camera video slo-mo and the upload. At least that way, I have the original and I can trim etc before I import into V1.

 

OnForm is Apple only. Android, you're SOL. If anyone finds anything better, let us know.

I love the HUDL app but the new replacement app, Onform, is clunky and slow. The buttons are not responsive and the frame-by-frame control doesn't work nearly as well. Does anyone know of any alternatives? I'm definitely worried about the impending app takedown. Does it make sense to start a new thread for suggestions? Is there a good frame-by-frame analysis tool for other sports that we can use?
