don't know that anyone would have him too far outside the 25, if at all ... and he has a Players ... he was probably literally 10 strokes away from being top 15, maybe top 12, all time ....

Agreed. He may have lost a few he should have won but Tway and Mize type don’t seem to happen to anyone else.

Tiger was never a freak athlete. He was/is a golfer.

And saying Jordan would be on the bench today is just a ridiculous statement. At 6’6” 180 he would still dominate. Westbrook shouldn’t  even be mentioned in the same breath as Jordan. And Karl Malone was a forward, like LeBron, not a center.

TIGER and its not even close.

3 US Jr Ams in a row (never happening again)

3 US Ams in a row (never happening again)

Tiger Slam + TPC (never happening again)

14/14 winning majors after holding final round lead (never happening again)

All time most wins on PGA Tour (about 10 of Sneads wins shouldn't count)

500 plus weeks at #1

2019 Masters (beats the young guys and puts to rest argument Tiger won with lesser competion)

He did all this while being out of commission for about 8-9 years in his prime years.

Well obviously it is close.  Or these discussions wouldn’t exist.

Im curious how the 2019 Masters win puts to rest any talk of lesser competition. My theory (for what it’s worth) has always been that while it’s is indisputable that there are more GOOD players now, I’m not sure there are more GREAT players. With fewer elite players, people actually learn to close out tournaments and actually win once in a while against the best player. Because they re in contention more often. Case in point, that Masters you referenced, does Tiger win that if everyone in contention doesn’t decide to use Raes Creek as a ball washer on #12?  They folded like cheap tents. Tiger did that to a lot of players over the years. Much like Norman and Seve did for Jack in 1986. The difference is, guys like Watson and Trevino actually stepped up and went toe to toe with Jack, and bested him. Tiger really didn’t have anyone who could consistently challenge him down the stretch. YE Yang and Bob May caught lightening in a bottle, then were basically never heard from again.

Sometimes depth also equals mediocrity.

I’ll never question anyone who places Tiger above Jack, to me that argument is absolutely as valid as the other way around. But to say it isn’t even close is not being objective.

now I’m ready for Bsc to list the quotes again!😀

Jack has 18 majors + 2 US Ams

Tiger has 15+3 US Ams

+ the accomplishments never to be repeated.

IMO Tiger's accomplishments in a far deeper international depth of field outweighs Jack's.

JACK has 18 but did he ever win 4 majors in a row plus the TPC?

Did Jack ever win 7 fullfield PGA Tour events in a row?

I am shocked that with all the intelligent and knowledgeable posters on this subject the following people have not even been mentioned:

Old Tom Morris

Young Tom Morris

Peter Thompson

James Braid

Henry Cotton

And only 1 person suggested Harry Vardon

Professional golf did not start with the end of World War 1 or World War 2 or the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Did Tiger? Two of the 7 consecutive PGA Tour events he won in 2006/7 were short field WGC events. One only had 60 players. The other 78.

Having Phil outside the top 15 is absolutely criminal.

T8th in PGA Tour Wins

T12 In Major Wins

3/4 of the slam

Oldest player to ever win a major

Longest span from first to last pga tour win in history

To date remains the last amateur to win on the pga tour

One of only 4 left handed players to ever win a major. One of only 2 with multiple. Only left handed player to win more than 1 of the 4 majors. Only one to win the PGA.

2nd all time in Runner Up finishes in majors.

Most runner up finishes in the major he hasn't won.

Made every US Ryder Cup / Presidents Cup team from 1994-2018

Spent over 25 consecutive years in the top 50 in the world

Junior World Champion

US Amateur Champion

3X NCAA Individual Champion

Western Amateur Champion

Porter Cup Champion

1 of 3 Players to win their first two Champions Tour starts

He's literally been an elite golfer year in and year out from early childhood to now.

You can't rank behind guys like

Casper (half as many majors, only 2 legs of the slam)

Seve (1 Fewer Major, only 2 legs of the slam, winning span 12 years shorter)

Faldo - Fewer world wide wins than Phil has PGA Tour wins. Only has 2 legs of the slam.

Trevino - 16 PGA Tour wins behind Phil. Best finish in his missing major was 10th twice. Winning span on the pga tour barely breaks half of Phil's

Hmmmm.  Arent those harder to win than say a Buick or Bob Hope since most of the top players in the world play it?  Having most of the top players in the world playing a WGC makes it much tougher to win vs a John Deere Classic or Phoenix Open.  Tiger played in the toughest tournies and passed on virtually all the weak field events which makes his 7 in a row all the more astonishing.
