GM/Cadillac want to run Ferrari power for 2 years while they develop their own PU. That sounds like a solid plan if they are currently working on the '26 regulations.

does Checo hold his seat for 2025 after today?

The story is they will make a decision after the season. If they don't give that seat to Yuki, then I've lost all hope in RB as a team.

So Max gets 8th in the Sprint race, then takes Pole for the Grand Prix. Is he sandbagging? 🤣

Checo will finish 8th. Second lowest finishing point of a championship teammate since Max's dad finished 10th to Michael. 🤣

I know we will have to agree to disagree on this one, but if they didn't give that seat back to Gasley a few years back then Yuki hasn't done enough to get promoted IMO.

That said, I don't have a clear-cut guy to bring in.  They are all dogs with fleas of varying severity.

On paper, Bottas makes a ton of sense.  Turning heel and joining Red Bull would make for some fun Toto and Lewis press, perhaps.  More importantly, is the Merc-era Bottas still in there somewhere?  The grid needs a Fin, for crying out loud!

Bottas signed with Mercedes for '25 as reserve.

Here's the issue at Red Bull. Lawson hasn't beaten Yuki enough to justify Checo's seat and if they sign Colapinto, he isn't going into Checo's seat. Yuki is the obvious choice. Give him at least a half season. He's likely going to Aston Martin in '26, so give him '25 to show what he can do in a proper car.

He's not beating Max, but he could at least get a podium that Checo can't get.

Sounds like Checo is gone... I know you get to drive the big boy RB but I don't know who is jumping to be compared to Max

I know that Bottas signed with Merc, but I would think there has to be a clause in that contract if he were to get an F1 offer--maybe not.  It is notable that Kravitz posted this yesterday, and now it makes sense to me.

I understand all the business reasons why Yuki should get that #2 seat, but Yuki is a slower and slightly sager Kyvat.  He will be toast in that seat, and will be the definition of a pay driver if AM does pickup his remains after Max destroys him on the track and psychologically.  I know you may mostly disagree, and I respect that.

I agree that Lawson and Colapinto don't belong in that other Red Bull cockpit yet, which is one of the reasons I thought RIC was a safe choice to replace Checo before he was dismissed.  After his last few races, I wouldn't put RIC in that seat anymore.

Bottas made sense to me because he was a great team player at Merc, and he doesn't get stupid with car and destroy it when it's too slow to deliver.  Who knows if he can still drive a fast car, I guess is the real question at age 35.

It sounds like RB decided to pass on Colapinto after all the crashes he's had lately. It sounds like they will promote one of the VCARB dudes and pull a junior from the program for the VCARB seat. There are quite a few solid juniors available.

Ocon is out already, Doohan is taking his seat for the last race. That's crazy.

Unfortunately I think Bottas has lost his edge, same as Danny Ric (and Lewis has even said he has, too). I think they could both be competitive in other lines, but F1 really is the top. I really want to see Danny Ric in NASCAR, I bet he could win road races in a mid level car. And I would actually watch NASCAR if he was racing. At least a road course, I can't do ovals. 🤣

Agreed on all, though I would like to see Bottas at least get a shot in something fast after a few years in that dreadful Kickbox.

RIC in NASCAR seems like the ultimate conclusion, right?  He could get a job as a pundit or color man yesterday and be epic, but if he goes to NASCAR and has success he could really write his own ticket for life (even moreso than now).

Bottas did an Ironman without leaving his house last month--maybe that's his next thing?

Bottas is a bike nut! He races all the time, I've been following him on Facebook forever, he's always posting about races he's doing.

He seems like such a cool dude, the fact Australia has adopted him is epic.

And Danny Ric can do broadcasting whenever, he should be driving while he still can. But Carlos Senior is still winning at his age, so there is that.

Early lineup rumors are flying around about the '26 Caddy lineup.  Predictably, RIC is a name being tossed around along with Bottas.  It seems like it makes sense for them to bring an Andretti driver over from Indycar.  At the risk of robbing Peter to pay Paul, they could just pull entirely from their Indy team with Ericsson and Herta--but it doesn't seem likely.  Maybe Herta with Chadwick as a reserve driver (would definitely check a box and raise eyebrows) and a veteran with past success/recent F1 experience like MAG, RIC, BOT or PER?  MSC gets one last chance? Two of O'Ward, Palou and Herta as teammates would be one heck of a test case for (current) Indy vs F1 for best vs best.

https://www.racefans.net/2024/01/12/palou-and-herta-admit-their-f1-hopes-appear-to-be-over/

How about some less-obvious choices--Vandoorne, Schwartsman, Kvyat.  Palmer back from the booth?  I can't see Vettel suiting back up for anyone but Red Bull or Mercedes.  Dixon has had five wins over the past 16 months, maybe he rides into the sunset to finally try F1?

Someone get JPM on a diet, quick!

I want to see Herta or any Indy guy step up and see what they can do. I know they need a vet to lead the team, so we will see who they pick.

The race season is a pretty tight schedule, so you would have to do it in the 6 weeks or whatever the off season is now. But yeah, not sure the Peleton races count. 🤣

All the feels today during qualifying.

--Bottas makes it into Q3!

--Hulkenberg was provisional pole with about 1 min left in Q3 (!!!)

Too bad Hulk has a grid penalty, but K-Mag did say he was going to do whatever he could to get his boy a podium.  Anyone else, it would be a nice sentiment--but for Kevin it's a declaration of war for the first turn.

Bro.  You just don’t know.  This is a level of sophistication and class that you or I just can’t understand.  Studies have been done. Words spoken.  Dialects meshed.  Compromises made. Simulation is the next phase of enlightenment.  Will trick our minds into believing anything we want.  You can be a beauty queen.  A rockstar.  An iron man or a chef.  When anything is possible , nothing will be real. But you won’t know the difference.  We’re the last gen walking between both worlds. And apparently formula-uh is blazing that trail !
