If its possible, I think Azinger is even worse now than when he was a commentator on the PGA Tour.  I miss Lanny Wadkins on the Champions Tour coverage.

Agreed.  I didn’t think he could be any worse, but I tried to watch the last Champions Tour event and he just killed it for me.  In the same way Morgan Pressel is ruining the U.S. Women’s Open this week.

Needs to again learn to shut her trap and let shots just play out and not talk over it. No one wants to hear her yapping when someone is hitting the ball or putting.

I was browsing this thread when it first came out and found the comments interesting, but I didn't comment as I hadn't watched the Pressel coverage much. Last night I was reshafting some clubs and had the replay of the Ladies US Open on in my shop. PRESSEL TALKS TOO MUCH! It's like she has to get the last word in on every other comment made. Quite irritating. Somebody really needs to calm her down.

Yep. I have said this myself about her. Her main problem is she does not know how to self edit. I don't mind her voice as others apparently do but for gawd's sake... less is more Morgan... less is more!

Voice tone is no big deal, that doesn’t bother me ever. 
 

Why use five words when fifty would do? That is what I don’t like.

Kelly Tilghman led the CBS broadcast this week for the Meijer ... thought it made a welcome change from Golf Channel

(not necessarily better... just that variety being the spice of life).

 

Would folks prefer Tilghman over Pressel?

(Am aware of Tilghman's history i.e. she left the Golf Channel in 2018 after ~22 years

... so unlikely to return to GC (and Tilghman has her own critics)... but "never say never").

 

• We're more likely to see someone similar to Mel Reid joining the GC team.

Hmm, Kelly may not be across what she needs to - Nanna Madsen was in the mix at the top and Kelly didn't realise  that she was Danish, instead referring to her being/going home to Sweden.

 

Not a fan of factual errors particularly occurring in such an easy job - how difficult is it to know basic details of the people you will be commentating about? Maybe she didn't prep well enough.

Definitely.  And I feel we see more of it when they bring in the people who they seem to consider (and may well be) A-level announcers but whose primary/sole role or interest isn't necessarily 2025 LPGA.  Similar errors have been flagged here in the past, it's reminiscent of people who last minute crammed for an exam.  Maybe someone isn't crazy about say Tom Abbott but to me he always gives the impression that he genuinely lives it, is super into LPGA passionately and naturally prepared.

Morgan was in the booth with Terry Gannon and Tom Abbott Fri PM (on my feed at least) and for me she was much better (shock, horror).

 

Terry and Tom have an amusing on air relationship bouncing jokes off each other, sometimes at either's expense and maybe that bought out the best in Morgan as she seemed more light hearted.

 

Also the two guys had plenty to say so that tempered Morgan's verbosity a little.

 

All in all, I enjoyed all their commentary.

 

Perhaps that's a decent formula for more future coverages?

Really wanted to watch some of this today as the wind looks crazy there.  But after 20 seconds of her it was just no!!

It works if the course offers interesting visuals.  It doesn’t when they’re playing on the dog track that they are this weekend.  I watch almost all my LPGA golf these days with the sound off if the Marvelous Mrs. Nasal is on the broadcast, but it’s unwatchable this weekend, due to both to the awful course and the ridiculous pace of play.  I’d rather watch Slippery Stairs on the OCHO…

MP learned nothing from Judy Rankin. She will say half as much useful analysis in twice as many words. She must think she is getting paid by the word. I feel sorry for all her colleagues that have to suffer through her verbal diarrhea every week.

I've never heard an American use the expression "getting caught out" and MP uses it frequently. 

 

As for the guys, I'll take Tom Abott any day over Terry Gannon.

I think Morgan, like some other lady announcers, makes her voice on the broadcast sound differently than it does normally. I've noticed this with the A's play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar. When they speak in interviews, the voice sounds fine and normal. When the event goes live, they get some kind of faux raspy and deeper tone. It's odd.

I watch A LOT of A’s games and have never noticed that.

Watch the pre-game and then compare her voice during the game. I watched a bunch of games last season, none this year, and it was one of the first things I notice. Dallas sounds the same whether it's down on the field before the game, or on his podcast, or in the booth. She sounds much different. Renee Paquette (Renee Young) is another one where it's really noticeable in AEW or formerly WWE broadcasts.
