Before reading about this, I didn't know who Morgan Pressel was. Now after seeing how fired up about women's golf she is, I consider her one of the best. Best moment of the games so far.

Unreal that she's trying to play this off as "stumbling over her words".  The pronunciation and emphasis was about as clear as it gets  🤭

I HATE Morgan’s voice…TOO nasal. She needs to see a speech pathologist to work on getting rid of the nasal vocal quality! She talks WAYTOO much! I miss Judy Rankin! Morgan’s grammar needs work as well. She’s just awful…states the obvious and tends to repeat herself. I would much rather listen to the ladies on SKY sports. They need to refrain from putting Morgan on camera … her hair looks awful all the time! Judy Rankin was a class act and Morgan is sooooo far from class!!!

I should send a thank you note to Morgan Pressel.  After turning on the last LPGA event, I lasted about a minute with her commentating before I killed the sound.  I then watched the entire broadcast with no sound and, once I got used to it, I loved it.  I’ve now realized, after all these years, that enjoying watching sports doesn’t require listing to the audio at all.  And I feel like I made this discovery just in time, what with Tom Brady now calling NFL games.  His whiny voice is like the male equivalent of Morgan Pressel’s.

I have been a supporter of Morgan over the years. I think she is insightful, and her voice doesn't rub me up the wrong way at all. Perhaps because I am non-native to the USA I hear it differently. And I think her "She's f*cking fired up right now" was a highlight!

 

However, I don't think Morgan has improved as a commentator. Some of her earlier issues, which I passed off as "rookie error" are still present. She sems very comfortable with what she is doing too and so has no ambition to improve. Specifically, I don't like that she talks over the action that is playing out right in front of her. It might be something like a crucial putt in a tournament, and she is off in her own bubble telling some anecdote, or preachy lesson about golf. She doesn't even pause. It's almost a byline that some player just lost a tournament, missed a cut or lost their tour card.

I really want to watch the GT tournament, but she kills it.  She talks right through every shot she calls.  Just never shuts up.

 

She should be listening to the on course reporter, which I think was Karen Stupples, who pauses and stays quiet through the actual shot being taken.  How have the producers not coached Pressel on this?

 

I’ve come to watch tournaments she calls with the sound off, but it’s hard with this tournament format to watch without them giving you some information about the partner’s shots.

Her constant talking, lack of insights and nasal delivery makes it very hard to watch. Haven't the producers told her she doesn't need to describe things that viewers can see for themselves? "She left that putt a little short." "She needed more club there." "She put that drive into the hazard." Sheesh it is amateur hour with her.

When my wife walked in and saw i had the volume turned way down she asked why.  I told her, i cant stand listening to Morgan Pressel and told her basically exactly the examples you mentioned.  She said, “you don't hate anybody, let me hear”. I turned it up and she said..”enough, she is horrible!”   I said “told ya” turned it back down

I suspect few are giving her any (constructive) feedback so she's likely proceeding blissfully unaware of any criticism....unless she reads this thread.

 

She's got some positive attributes:

• been there done that as a recent upper-level player
• well connected, on good terms with many of the current players
• can be well presented visually if she would stop the wardrobe dept picking her attire (i hope it's the wardrobe dept, not her choices)

But:

• nasally, chipmunk voice
• talks too fast and doesn't know when to shut up or at least reduce the volume (word number) of her comments

There must be some weak bosses at NBC, they need to give her the -ve feedback and enact a remedial plan:

• voice training to modify her tone
• commentary training about when to talk and when to shut up, maybe even some mentoring (would Judy do it?).

If she won't agree to the training then bye bye.

 

I think she is 'savable' but she has to get the feedback and be willing to accept the need to change.

Pressel: "He seemed like he liked it from the start."

 

Rambling on and on and on and not only saying nothing of note but throwing out things that make no sense.

I've watched more LPGA than PGA for years now. I've gone to see the ladies play several times. Morgan has ruined it for me. I love the sounds of a golf course and the sound of a pros strike, so I hate muting the TV. I'm muting it more and more. Her nasally voice, constantly stating the obvious, lack of beneficial insights, and the Jim Nance style pauses for dramitic effect are kiiling me. Stop talking and when you do, stop pausing and finish your sentence. Hopefully someone can coach her.
