LPGA Morgan Pressel as commentator

It’s not looking good. She just says what I’m watching. “She may have pulled that one.” “Trying to use the slope to bring it back to the hole.” “She can’t lose a stroke here.” “This is a must make putt….EWEWEWEW she missssed it!”
 

The LPGA needs to try out television as its public interest driver. One thing I liked this week was the tower camera on the 18th tee. Great framing of the ball flight. I’ve seen their swings from behind a million times. Golf TV needs to find creative ways to show the ball flight, like what we got this weekend on eighteen. I think the shot tracer had its time. Just show a white ball now. No more of the entirety of the ball flight rainbow.
 

But man, so much still to be desired.

+ Show more players. Not just the four at the top and Korda. I want to see way more shots of good/very good/great/tour proven players within the top 20 at least. 
+ Let us know what’s going on with a player grouped with leader who is falling back. I didn’t see one of Yoon’s shots. Not one. I started a little late.
+ Fix the coverage Thursday & Friday. I really dislike starting the coverage and seeing all these great players already in with 65, 63, 66, etc. I think.. Who’s left to show??

+ Need a dynamic voice, and crew. Make me want to listen. The whole subject of this thread.

 

Their TV contract is awful and they waste what little time they have.

Yep, she is still as bad and annoying as ever. Just totally awful all the way around.

With Morgan, my issue is really just the voice.  And that has gotten somewhat better than when she started.  Morgan is knowledgeable, and it is not “all about her”.  

 

The challenge is she followed Judy Rankin, who had a great voice, a positive presence and deep knowledge.  Judy was one of the best male or female golf commentators of the last couple decades.

When Judy said it, it was as if she had to let us know. Pure class. It was never because she wanted to just talk. Love Judy Rankin.

Yep, it implies that the commentator thinks that their comments are more important than the player's shot ergo the commentator is more important than the player.

Personally I'm indifferent on Morgan, but perhaps the producers are instructing her to talk more and offer her opinions. IdK. Commentating in golf usually doesn't bother me unless it's Ian Baker Finch or Paul Azinger. Those two drive me nuts. I was disappointed when Zinger went over to call the Champions Tour.

Boy this is spot on, Finchy doesn't bother me to bad. Azinger is just as bad as Pressel, just doesn't have the nasally voice. I was so glad when he wasn't commentator on the PGA Tour anymore. Then he turned up on the Champions tour. Just doesn't know when to shut up and comes up with such crap.

I can’t anymore with her. Saigo “hit her highest drive of the week.. in terms of apex.” What are the other terms?

 

She likes Ariya “staying loose” before the playoff,,, as she’s getting Desperation Chipping CPR 🤣🤣🤣🤣 

 

Saigo and Duncan—possibly getting confused by an incorrect scoreboard (Terry, did it ever happen, turbo?)—she says that it doesn’t matter…they need to birdie. Pretty sure those gals would need eagle…🤣

 

It’s just everything she squeaks out is half baked.

LPGA is a bit of a clown show. I was just on their web site trying to find the hole-by-hole scores for today's round and I couldn't find it shown anywhere. Perhaps it is a local browser issue, but I tried three different browsers the same result.

it’s up and down the ladder. NBC thinks it got “the shot” on Ariya’s chip, as their camera angle is BALL-LESS,, leaving even the announcers to wonder what the hell happened there. Then, and I heard it more than once, there was announcer chatter of “the ball moving” when they showed the dreadful choke chip from the proper camera on reply.  I had no clue what they were even getting at. Ball didn’t move 🤣 Barely moved when she hard-landing’d the leading edge into the golf ball’s equator. Both player and network botches the shot of the day. Clown Show

Click on a player's name, and their scorecard will display as an overlay. 'Not sure if it's a popup, but if you're browser isn't showing it then either Javascript is disabled, and/or pop-ups are disabled.

Nope. I have popups disabled on one of my browsers, but not the other two. Where popups are disabled, I get a noticed that a popup has been blocked. No popups or alerts. This obviously doesn't work on my OS.

I simply cannot listen to Morgan any longer, no matter what she's saying.  It's her voice & her speech patterns, ending almost every sentence with "toDAY" and the last word in most sentences are an octave higher & louder than the rest of the sentence.  And Paige whispers & talks too much too. She's starting to sound like Kay Cockerill who thinks she's a linguistics teacher. Bottom line....I'm a woman, but I can't stand most of the women commentators.  Karen Stupples has driven me crazy for a long time too.  I always record & watch LPGA tournament laters in the day muting & FF'ing thru all the considerable BS.  I do love Judy Rankin though, she's the BEST !  Okay....I'm thru venting 🤣

 This right here is the biggest issue. Her vocal inflections are nearly 'Valley Girl"

Occasionally I pop back into the Morgan Hate thread to see updates.

 

Her voice doesn't bother me.

Her talking about golf in general, while a tournament is being won or lost right in front of us, bugs the Hell out of me. But it is not just Morgan that does this; it is all of the female commentators. Karen Stupples was doing it years before Morgan. Michelle WW was doing it as a guest commentator at Mizuho!

 

All in all, though, Morgan's commentating is the least of the problems with the LPGA coverage. I'd rank the Lexi complex much higher, and an indicator of a deep-seated lack of imagination on the part of the broadcasters concerning their "product" (if I may refer to living, breathing humans with such a term). I'd say the lack of shots shown is a bigger issue.

 

Morgan's commentary just needs some fine-tuning in my opinion, Tooooooom.

Started watching Saturday’s US Open coverage. It’s a disaster. Dan Hicks needs to shove some weight around and just go to the producer and say, It’s not working out.

Dan is talking to Bones about some par three shots because Bones is with the group, and Pressel interrupts with completely useless words. It didn’t need to be a three person conversation. She adds nothing. 
 

Her “WELOME TO THE US OPEN, DAN” was an immediate here we go again with this s***. I think her speaking style is to say absolutely everything as if she’s calling Jordan’s last jumper (which ironically Costas didn’t say anything to overtake the monumental shot. He was actually brilliant with that call). The tone is just “FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!…”
