Ball is pulling left.

This topic has probably been beat to the ground but has anyone just continually hit the ball left. I went to the range today to figure out if I was setting up correctly and only after someone lent me a tool that essentially sticks on the face of my club to show where it is pointing and sure enough, everything with my irons points left of my target. My question is, when I corrected the face to point down my target line, it feels like I have two choices. First is to roll the face open a little bit then regrip or I have to position my ball further back in my stance to have my hands almost forward pressed.

I battled this. Simple fix for me was to retrain the brain from only seeing one target line. At the range play draws and fades to the target, one then the other one after the other. Before every shot look behind the target line, and see your fade or draw setup points.

A huge help is to say the shot before you go up and hit it.

Does the toe sit way up at address?

By my angle or view it does not. For some odd reason though, I have always battled this part of my setup. Just seams to me like the face is always somewhat closed at setup and only when I really press my hands forward does it look like the face getting back on line. When I had the chance to check with that magnetic pointer I was talking about, it was apparent that the clubface is pointed left of where my assumed target line is.  Could this be attributed to a slightly open feet position at address.

Are you sure your not pushing it with your right hand? Take you pointer finger (index) and thumb off the club and hit a few balls. Is it a straight pull/push or a curved draw/hook?

Do you have any video or photos of your setup?

Great question. It essentially is a dead straight shot put about 20 yards left of my target. Not sure if I just aim everything 20 yards or so to the right of my target and just play it. But to my eye, I look off center. I am generally a straight hitter. Not much movement.

Where does your belly button/belt buckle point when you finish your swing. Being a straight shot sounds like a strong right hand or you finish position is to strong. Don’t go after distance as much.

Sounds like you really need to check your alignment.

If you really are aiming/aligning right of your target to hit a straight ball to your target your face would look closed at address and you would be coming slightly OTT. That would match up your path and face to the target. Sounds like your description.

So, if you align yourself parallel to the target line, the same path and face would hit a straight ball to the left.

If you doing a slight forward press makes the leading edge look less closed I would think you're actually not simply forward pressing but you are actually rolling your wrists slightly clockwise in addition to the press.

That would square up the face. Otherwise I'd think the face angle would look the same, just less lofted.

I was looking at it today and I was working on hand position and it feels as if my hand position is strong. Gonna try it at the driving range to see if it is true.

You are right. My perception is way off and I think I just started opening my stance trying to play a fade to offset it. That is where that question of whether or not I’m pressed far enough.  Gotta work on it.

Trying to make your swing conform to the static plane established at address introduces several unwanted swing compensations such as over the top and hip stalling which lead to pulls and pull hooks.

Why would anyone think it makes sense to for a dynamic golf swing motion to conform to a static plane vs a plane that moves with the swing?

Is your ball position to far towards lead foot (too far forward)?  Perhaps you are just catching the ball with the club after it has started back to the inside of target line?

Thats actually the opposite for me. I have tried having the ball position more in front and I cant cover the ball well enough that I am more middle then towards my back foot for most of my irons.
