Yes. It looked like it could go badly wrong around the turn when he started losing his tee shots right, but he scrambled well and made an unlikely birdie on 10 which steadied the ship. 

 

I really enjoyed the tournament; Veerman seems like a good guy and I was seriously impressed with Grant Forrest. His swing is one of the best. Pity about the double on 18. Same for Laporta.

The Renaissance.... What big televised tournament was latest held at that venue? I do seem to have some recollection but very vague. Not really a positive one. 

Is there a good flyover, a recap from an earlier tournament on YT or the similar, something to refresh ones memory?

Might have been... is nearly always away on vacation with other priorities this week but not this year... might have seen a few holes... A lot of houses on the left of the fairway on some of the last holes?

Agreed. Played it for the first time this year and I was very underwhelmed by it all. Only one or two holes stick in the memory and it doesn't play like a links course at all. Muirfield, Gullane 1, North Berwick and even the Fidra at Archerfield are far better tracks.

I think that is what Tom has been saying.  He designed it as a links but they don't maintain it that way.

I don't think anyone actually designed the clubhouse. Scotland has a great selection of tour standard links and this isn't one of them. Money, and the fact it is close to Edinburgh, call the shots.

I like the graphics on their coverage how they show the birdies in red numbers on the players scorecard and those players under par in red....NBC and CBS could learn a thing or two

Yep. Just came t say that. He’s changed  putters.  This one has a plumbers neck.

When he has he hasn't hit great iron shots.  And when he's hit good iron shots (hit an absolute beauty on #9 for example) he hasn't made the putt.

I believe it’s one of those necks that has a chrome shaft section straight up then a glued on “ crank hosel “ like odyssey has done a few times.  Making a plumbers neck in total out of 2 pieces.  A conversion like this one.

Massively enjoyed watching today, so good seeing links golf on the TV. I am sure that the players might not agree but some dodgier weather over the next few days would be good.

Featured groups from 8am and then full coverage from 12:30. Think I prefer watching featured groups to be honest as you get to see how their rounds develop. Not sure how Kaymer still gets premium groupings though. I would have preferred to watch the Higgo / Burns / Calum Hill 3 ball this morning.

I know it's been said before but the European Tour commentators are miles better than the PGA. I'm watching the YouTube stream (hacking using a VPN lol) and they're just fun to listen to. They don't have the benefit of commercials or breaks and they still manage to be entertaining and informative.

 

Edit: They just chastised a spectator for saying "Get in the hole!" on a par 4. "I really hope that doesn't make its way over here from across the pond. MASHED POTATOES! I mean, what the hell is that?!" 😆

I work out this is only Rahm's 16th regular European Tour event and he has 6 wins, 2 seconds, 3 other top 5s. Leading again. Imagine how dominant he might be if he played a full season of 20 events on the European Tour like Seve used to. His game seems to suit the European Tour even more than the PGA Tour.
