Re-shaft from True Temper Elevate to ? (Help!)

Recommended Posts

So I currently game PXG 0211 irons, and have no real complaint after the last 4 years or so. However, I had/have some lingering back issues, so when I purchased them I went for a lighter stiff shaft over the previous irons I had in extra stuff.

I learned to swing easier, more fluid, but as I've been playing more and my back has gotten a little better, I feel I am so inconsistent with my irons and swinging "lazy" not easy.

I don't think I need extra stuff, but maybe something a bit heartier then the elevate shafts.

Any good recommendations for reshaft? I do tend to be a high ball flight, sweeper swing (little divot if any), and would like a lower trajectory.

I feel a solid choice would be the heavier Dynamic Gold S300's. Any others?

Since you say it is a lighter shaft, I assume you are referring to the Elevate 95, not the Elevate Tour.  With that in mind, jumping up to the DG S300 is quite a leap.  Obviously, do whatever you want, doesn't matter to me or anyone else.  But there are a ton of good options between 95g-130g, and suggestions will merely be throwing things out.

Anyway, Modus Tour 105, Modus Tour 120, KBS Tour, KBS Tour $Taper and $Taper Lite.  DG 105 or 120 perhaps, if you want the DG profile, but don't want to jump up to the full DG.  Really any number of options, but probably best for you to get fit.

I would recommend a fitting ... so many choices, and you have a specific ask with some physical needs. You want something that feels "right" but won't cause pain, would be worth the extra bucks to get it right. You can surely fine exactly what you're looking for with a little trial and error in the fitting room.

Going from the Elevate to the Dynamic Gold is quite a leap. Elevate tends to play soft relative to its flex rating. Plus the trajectory is quite a bit higher than the DG.  DG is also heavier.

I tried the elevate 95 shafts in my apex 21s but went back to modus 105 shafts.  Just overall better for my swing and seems like less pressure on my elbow.

I went from Elevate 95 to Modus 120 this year. Like you, I originally went to to the Elevate shafts because of some back issues. Once I worked through the issues, I found I was ballooning a lot of my irons. I tried a lot of options at the end of last season and landed on the Modus 120.  They are heavier, but I haven't given up any yardage and I love the feeling and control. I feel like I can flight it low if needed but my normal shot still has plenty of height and good land angle.

There are lots of threads on WRX about the 'cult' of Modus 120. They are not for everyone, but I'm definitely a convert.

My son went from Elevate 95's in his Apex 19's to Elevate Tours in the first gen PXG 0211's, and is now in DG 120's (growing/improving over the past 2-3 years).  He swings a 6i around 86 mph and was directed to 120 gram options using a Mizuno Shaft Optimizer.

Going from Elevate lightweight (98g?) shafts to darn near the heaviest TT DG 127g-134g shafts with different profiles and trajectories is going to test your commitment to your decision; it's a big jump.  Moving shaft weight by ten (10) grams is more common, so as not to have too much shock and awe-dammit regret.

Also, if you're unfamiliar with shaft options and unable to identify your swing mechanics with certain shaft profiles, further reason to spend a few bucks on a limited fitting.  When I say limited, just pay for fitting of different shaft weights and flexes.

Before my back went out I was using KBS tour 120 x-stiff soft stepped, so I was used to a heavier shaft. The elevate shafts were more a necessity for me to continue playing while I rehabed my back. It's better (still not great), but I am starting to see that I'm spraying shots everywhere and having a very high ball flight and think it's because my tempo now just doesn't work.

So I was thinking heavier shaft again, but in standard stiff flex might help me a bit.  DG always used to be the standard in my eyes, but that's why I wanted to ask about other options that might work as well.

I'm actually abroad right now, so fittings are limited, and the language barrier makes it super difficult, so that's just kind of out.

I hadn't looked into those at all, so thanks for the idea. I think a stiff 120 would help me as well. My tendency is to get a little quick, so I pull hook a lot. Something a bit heavier would be nice to slow me back down a bit I think.

What weight Elevates were they?

Best to swing a bunch of different profiles in a weight range that your comfortable moving into. Start low, try different profiles, if you find one that feels good but too light, look for the same profile in a heavier weight.

if your having trouble finding the right weight in a profile, ask on the form. Many shafts have similar profiles to other manufacturers.

I just had to look again, and they are the tour model. I believe that puts them at 117g according to the website for S flex.

So they aren't all that light after all. Not really sure what what to think now. Maybe my swing is just terrible and I should stop blaming the equipment lol?
